Chapter 223: 223. I was blind – 1
“Fucker, die!!!”
Andrea screamed with raw fury and desperation bleeding into her every syllable.
“Andrea!!!” Inari’s urgent voice sounded from behind, calling her out of panic.
Andrea, covered in demonic blood, stopped and looked back at Inari. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as she tried to steady her breathing.
Inari pointed towards a certain direction with a distressed expression. Her face had lost its calm, replaced by clear unease as her golden eyes reflected something enormous in the distance.
Andrea turned to look at the direction she pointed to, only to find the colossal knight’s halo walking slowly towards them.
The ground trembled faintly with every movement of the halo; cracks spread across the already devastated terrain.
“Shit, it’s coming to kill Bellial!!” Andrea muttered as she looked at the colossal being.
Her voice carried a mixture of exhaustion, dread, and grim satisfaction. Even in the middle of chaos, she understood exactly what the knight had appeared for.
Inari immediately appeared beside Andrea.
“Let’s move; there is only so much we can do right now,” she said while giving a second glance at Bellial’s body.
Her gaze lingered for only a moment, but within that brief glance lay centuries of experience and quiet understanding. Even someone as powerful as her knew when the battlefield had moved beyond mortal control.
“We can only make sure that this impotent dog gets killed in the most gruesome way for now,” she said with faint anger lingering in her words.
Her voice was calm, but the subtle tightening of her fingers revealed the frustration she was holding back.
She was frustrated too; just a few days ago she had been calmly resting in her domain while teaching her disciple assisting her in a breakthrough.
Suddenly she received a distress letter from Andrea.
Not just her; almost every Astral Warden had gotten it. Andrea had utilized emergency communication crystals to contact every member of the council.
Yet out of the 20 junior astral wardens, only she had come to help Andrea; the rest only had excuses.
Above the juniors were 7 elders in the Astral Warden Council, and above them were four primarchs.
For elders and primarchs to make a move in a conflict unrelated to their respective domains, there was supposed to be a voting process where the primarchs held the most voting power and juniors retained the least of it.
The system had been designed to maintain order and prevent reckless intervention in worldly affairs, but over time it had become a convenient excuse for inaction.
When a week ago a call for assistance had been made, it was concluded that only junior astral wardens may assist Andrea; the way the voting process had been conducted was very hard on the academy.
It was decided that the elders and primarchs were not supposed to intervene at all. Even then, out of 20 junior astral wardens, only Inari had responded.
Andrea knew this, but her mind had been too occupied saving the academy to do anything about it, yet now she realized that she wasn’t even informed about the method of killing a demon lord.
The realization slowly sank into her mind like poison spreading through veins.
The attitude, which earlier seemed unbothered to her, now seemed suspicious. The primarchs had not even cared when the academy they themselves had established was on the verge of going to ruins.
The thought gnawed at her like a festering wound.
Her eyes burned with frustration and fury; this was not the first time such a thing had happened.
Memories she had buried long ago began resurfacing with painful clarity.
15 years ago, when her sister Anasthasia was suffering from a crisis and her family was on the verge of ruin, these astral wardens, instead of helping them out, had chosen silence, and years later they had welcomed the Pope as a part of the elders.
The hypocrisy of it all twisted in her chest like a knife. As the countless instances of their partiality as well as silence repeated and layered in her mind, Andrea’s heart burned with fury. She felt angered and betrayed.
Every memory added another spark to the growing fire inside her.
Her bloodshot eyes looked at the colossus knight slamming his foot on the mangled body of Bellial, who flashed a smile to Andrea before becoming paste.
The demon lord’s grin was grotesque, filled with mockery even in the face of death, as if he found amusement in the chaos he had unleashed in Andrea’s mind.
Then the massive foot descended.
With a wet, crushing explosion, the demon lord’s body was flattened, splattering dark blood across the shattered ground.
As soon as Bellial died, the knight smashed his sword on the ground and roared again towards the sky as if challenging the natural order of this world.
He took the other sword and slashed it into the sky, cleaving the space in an attempt to open a pathway to more demons. The motion was so immense that the air seemed to tear apart under the blade.
The whole island shook, and clouds started rumbling.
Dark masses of clouds began spiraling above the battlefield, drawn together by invisible forces responding to the knight’s challenge.
“Andrea, let’s move away!!! It’s the heavens; the knight is fighting the heavens!!!” Inari nudged the silent Andrea, who nodded quietly and moved away with her.
Even beings as powerful as them knew that staying within the range of such a clash would mean certain destruction.
Rumble!!
The clouds thundered violently, rolling across the sky like an ocean in a storm.
And a purple beam shot forth from the sky towards the knight.
The beam descended like divine judgment, carrying immense pressure that bent the air around it.
ROAAAAARR!!!
ROAAAAARR!!!
ROAAAAARR!!!
ROAAAAARR!!!
This time the knight roared from his four heads; his roar spread throughout the Aris, inflicting fear and dread among the common populace.
Across distant towns and villages, people froze in terror as the unnatural roar echoed through the sky. The purple beam clashed with the knight’s sword, who, in return, pushed further.
The collision created an explosion of light that illuminated the entire island, casting enormous shadows across the burning battlefield.
And from there started an exchange of severe attacks between them.
Blades of divine light slashed upward while bolts of heavenly energy rained down, turning the sky into a battlefield between godlike forces.
And that remained until the formation running in the depth of the academy premises lost all its energy, and the 10,000 light stones got discharged due to overload.
The whole area started burning under immense heat, and the temporary array broke down. Cracks spread through the magical circuit lines, and one by one the glowing light stones shattered like glass.
In an instant the demon annihilator’s summoning got canceled, and his figure got disintegrated into light particles.
The colossal knight slowly dissolved; its massive form broke apart into countless glowing fragments that scattered into the air like falling stars.
The heavens rumbled for a moment, declaring their victory before disappearing.
Soon the storm clouds dispersed, leaving behind only destruction and demonic corpses. Cold winds roared above, bringing signs of rain that would quench the thirst of the fallen warriors.
