Chapter 548: Assimilating With a Draconic Bloodline
Aksai had his eyes closed.
The etheral waves of Spirit essence and Heretic energy still formed around him as he had paused the bloodline experiment midway.
In the next moment, he reached out through the silent thread that connected his mind to the little green snake—a connection formed through the demon beast contract.
His intent was gentle, a call filled with warmth and familiarity. Through this intent, he told his pet that there was no cause of concern but he wanted her to find him.
Far across the Enchanted Everwood Farm, in the custom-made training area by the small artificial lake, the little green snake suddenly stopped swimming. Her head perked up. Then, without a moment’s delay, she shot forward like an arrow, slicing through the water with sharp grace before slithering up the bank.
In the blink of an eye, she had reached Aksai.
With a soft hiss and her little pink tongue flicking out playfully, she curled herself around his right arm, resting her small head just below his shoulder. Her eyes blinked slowly as if to greet him, while her tongue darted out again, almost like a request.
“Hahah. You thought this was time for some treats? I’m sorry to burst your bubble but it’s not,” Aksai said with a low chuckle, opening his eyes and smiling. “Why are you always this hungry?”
The little snake wiggled her body slightly as if to respond. Her tongue kept flicking, her eyes staring at Aksai expectantly.
Aksai sighed and shook his head. “Alright, fine. I’ll give you something delicious today. I’ll even cook it myself. No Sentient Fiend Puppets this time.”
He raised his free hand and gently patted the snake’s small, scaled head. “But in return, I need a few drops of your blood. Just a small price for something this tasty, don’t you think?”
The little green snake flicked her tongue a few more times in a happy rhythm. She understood. Her long body tightened slightly around Aksai’s arm—not in fear, but as a show of agreement. Then, to brace herself, she gently bit Aksai’s hand. It wasn’t painful. Just a small nip.
Aksai smiled, already understanding her intent.
“You really don’t like hurting yourself, do you? How will you survive in a world full of Spirit cultivators if you are this timid?” he asked before smiling to himself.
“Alright. I guess it’s my fault for expecting you to mature too early. Don’t worry. I’ll handle it.”
He reached into his storage ring and pulled out a slim Celestial Shard knife. Its blade shimmered faintly with Spirit light. He positioned the edge just above one of the snake’s scales and, with a quick and gentle slash, made a very shallow incision—just enough to draw a few drops of blood.
The snake bit down a little harder in reflex, her body tensing slightly. But Aksai didn’t stop her. He simply focused on collecting the glowing drops of green-tinged red blood into a small vial.
Once he had collected enough, Aksai corked the vial and gently wiped the blade clean.
“It’s done,” he said with a smile, patting the snake’s head again.
The little snake let go of his hand, but before slithering away, she licked the small bite wound she had left behind. A faint shimmer passed over Aksai’s skin, and the wound closed quickly. She then twisted her body slightly and licked her own small wound. Within moments, the cut vanished.
“Impressive as always,” Aksai said, still smiling.
The little snake gave him a soft hiss in return and then unwrapped herself from his arm. With a playful flick of her tail, she turned around and made her way back toward the pond.
Aksai watched her go, her little green body disappearing into the water once more, where she resumed her lazy swimming as if nothing had happened.
He held the vial up against the sunlight, watching it gleam.
“This will do nicely,” he said to himself, his thoughts already drifting back to the evolving bloodline of the Bluewind Eagles.
Aksai looked at the vial of snake blood held carefully in his hand. The greenish red liquid shimmered softly in the light, carrying a powerful bloodline energy deep within it. He took a breath, steadying his thoughts, then stepped forward.
He carefully split the contents of the vial into two portions, then approached the two Bluewind Eagles. The male looked tense, his feathers puffed slightly, but he didn’t protest this time. The female seemed calmer, perhaps because Yelia stood nearby, sending soft pulses of calming wood-element Spirit energy toward her.
Aksai coaxed them gently, guiding the blood towards their beaks using a levitation spell. The liquid floated in small bubbles before entering their mouths.
As soon as the snake blood was consumed, Aksai’s expression grew serious. He raised his hands and activated the array with full force once again. The Spirit Array Formation around them lit up at once.
Dozens of Heretic Dao totems, etched into flat black stones placed across the clearing, began glowing with green and blue light. These totems acted as the Array Eyes—the core of the formation. Spirit essence surged through the earth like invisible waves, binding itself to the foreign bloodline energy that was bubbling within the eagles.
Aksai stepped back slightly, maintaining control with narrowed eyes and both arms raised. His Spirit sense wrapped tightly around the eagles, watching for every shift in their condition.
And then it began.
The Bluewind Eagles let out sharp, pained cries. This time, the pain was higher than before despite the fact that Aksai had increased the threshold of pain sensation for the demon beasts for the time being using the concoctions used previously.
The beasts’ bodies trembled, feathers falling off in waves. From beneath their skin, small blue-green scales began to appear, patchy and uneven at first. Their bones cracked loudly, reshaping themselves under the force of the transformation.
Aksai’s eyes widened as he saw what was happening.
“This… this isn’t just an enhancement,” he whispered. “This… this is a true bloodline evolution”
The first wave of sensation of the bloodline energy Aksai felt for the first time using his Soul and Spirit Sense was enough to tell him that the bloodline evolution was a huge leap forward in the field so far.
The male eagle’s chest rippled, and two new limbs burst out from beneath his shoulders—long, muscular forearms, tipped with sharp talons like a gryphon’s. The same happened to the female not long after. Their wings shifted, losing some of their feathery softness and becoming more leathery, like the wings of a wyvern. A curved, sharp horn grew out from the center of their foreheads, glimmering with green Spirit light.
“What… What kind of bloodline does my pet have?” Aksai asked himself as he watched the situation unfold. He thought the bloodline evolution had ended. But the most shocking feature appeared last.
From the base of their spines, thin appendages shot out and rapidly thickened—snaketails, covered in sleek scales, curling and lashing with their pain. The blue of their original feathers was still present, but now mixed with deep green patterns that shimmered whenever the light caught them.
Aksai kept his hands steady, but his jaw was tight. The eagles were in agony.
Blood poured from their sides. Their screams echoed across the farm. Their breathing turned shallow, and their limbs shook as if their bodies were trying to reject the change.
“Not yet,” Aksai muttered.
He reached into his storage ring and pulled out two thick vials. These were pain-relief concoctions, ones he had brewed from rare Spirit herbs. They were the premium-grade healing-type concoctions that he hadn’t used before.
He quickly uncorked them and guided the liquid into the birds’ open wounds and mouths. At the same time, he brought out a stack of Heretic Dao talismans. One by one, he activated them, slapping them onto the ground and into the air where they floated like glowing leaves.
The talismans flared, releasing waves of stabilizing Spirit essence. The formation responded, absorbing the talismans and amplifying their effects.
Aksai clenched his fists and pushed more of his Spirit essence into the array.
The eagles’ cries began to weaken. Their wounds slowed in bleeding. Their eyes, which had begun to roll back, now flickered with life again. The green and blue hues on their bodies deepened. Their extra limbs and tails twitched but didn’t fall limp.
They were surviving.
Yelia, who had been silent so far, stepped forward slowly and stood beside Aksai. She looked at the evolving beasts with wide eyes.
“I didn’t even know that the green snake’s bloodline would be this powerful. They’re… changing completely,” she said softly.
“Indeed. They’re becoming something new,” Aksai replied. “Something that’s never existed before.”
A few hours later.
The Spirit array hummed lower now. The totems dimmed, their energy spent. The glow around the eagles faded gradually. They collapsed to the ground, exhausted but breathing.
Aksai dropped to one knee, his body drenched in sweat. But a smile crept onto his lips as he looked at the two creatures.
“Hehehe. No longer just Bluewind Eagles,” he whispered. “And… And I will soon have an army of these creatures.”
