Chapter 637: Investing in the Future to Take the Martial Arts Civilization Forward P1
Reymon’s breath wavered for the first time.
His firm thoughts began to loosen, as if he had just stepped onto a path he never knew existed.
He took a deep breath and asked, “Then what should I do, Master?”
Aksai finally stopped walking and stood in front of him, a faint smile forming on his face.
“Simple,” he said.
“Expand your goal. Make it larger than your hatred. The culling of the corrupted druids should not be your final destination. It should be only a single step in the right direction.
“Aim to raise the entire martial arts system of Sharang. Think about pushing its civilization further, not just defending it.”
He lowered his head slightly and asked one more question.
“For example… have you ever tried to imagine a Body Cultivation realm that comes after the Aurous realm?”
Reymon’s eyes almost snapped open from shock, but he forced them shut.
He sat quietly for a few breaths, trying to calm the storm in his chest. His mind felt as if someone had torn open a curtain he never knew existed. The air around him was cool, but a faint tremble passed through his fingers as he pressed his palms on his knees.
He finally spoke, his voice low at first.
“I… I never really thought about this question.”
He drew a long breath, trying to steady himself before continuing.
“During my past encounters with those wretched tree devils, I believed that reaching the Aurous Realm was more than enough to deal with them. After all, the corrupted druids who are stronger than late-stage Foundation Establishment Experts can’t enter Sharang.
“So I focused everything on the Aurous Realm. I built the Grand Martial Hall to help as many martial artists reach that level as fast as possible.”
His brows tightened, and there was a bitter smile on his lips.
“I never once considered the idea that defeating those things wasn’t the same as stopping them. I never thought beyond revenge. I only wanted power strong enough to kill them.”
His breathing grew deeper as the truth settled in his heart.
“But stopping them from coming here… making Sharang free of its curse… that is another matter. I see now that it isn’t enough to match them. We have to make them fear us. We must make Sharang a place they dread to step into.”
Reymon raised his head slightly, even though his eyes remained closed.
“And to do that… yes, we need a power that stands beyond the Aurous Realm.”
There was a short silence, almost respectful.
“Master,” Reymon said softly, “thank you. You made me see a truth that was hidden past my hatred. If not for you, I would have wasted years—maybe decades—raising warriors when what Sharang really needs are angels of death to cut down those cursed tree devils.”
He placed his palms together, then leaned forward from his cross-legged position. He bowed deeply toward Aksai, his head almost touching the ground.
“Thank you for guiding me, Master,” he said, offering a sincere salute without opening his eyes.
In response, Aksai reached into his storage ring and pulled out a thick, worn journal. Without saying anything, he flicked his wrist and tossed it toward Reymon.
Even with his head bowed and his eyes closed, Reymon lifted one hand and caught it cleanly. His Qi Sense made the action smooth and natural, almost like he had expected the journal to appear.
“Open your eyes and take a look,” Aksai said.
Reymon straightened his back, opened his eyes, and rested the journal on his lap. He flipped through the pages slowly at first, then faster as curiosity pulled him in.
The journal was heavy with information. Pages were filled with diagrams of human muscles, bones, and meridians. There were notes on how Qi moved inside the body, how different martial artists shaped it, and how each method changed their combat style.
There were sections about footwork, breathing, weapon flow, and ways to turn simple techniques into deadly arts by changing small details. It felt like a lifetime of understanding pressed into one book.
Then Reymon reached the last few pages and stopped. His brows knitted together in confusion and interest.
“This—” he started.
Aksai spoke over him, as if he had been waiting for that exact reaction.
“—is called the Qi Shell Technique. It uses the soul of a beast to boost one’s Qi reserves and helps a martial artist push past bottlenecks.”
Reymon looked up, stunned. Aksai continued, slow and clear.
“To form the Qi Shell, a martial artist has to dominate the beast’s will first. Only then can the soul be trapped inside the body and used as a layer of strength.”
Aksai tapped the journal lightly with his finger.
“This technique was originally meant to combine Spirit essence with Qi Energy. This was because it was meant to work with another technique from a different path. But I rewrote it. Now it only focuses on Qi, so even an average martial artist of Sharang can use it without worrying about backlash or not being able to cultivate it.”
Reymon took a deep breath as he tried to process the idea.
Aksai went on, still pacing slowly around him.
“What makes this technique special is that it grows stronger with the user. The higher the martial artist climbs, the stronger the Qi Shell becomes. Of course, the breakthrough requirements will rise as well.”
Aksai smiled and shrugged.
“But since I’ve already given you a way to increase the production of the Golden Rebirth Fruits, the extra requirements won’t trouble you much.”
He chuckled a little before admitting something in an honest tone.
“To tell you the truth, even I don’t know what lies beyond the Aurous Realm. I’m hoping this technique will guide you in the right direction. I received it too late—long after I entered the Argent Realm—so I couldn’t test its full potential.”
Reymon listened intently, holding the journal like it was a sacred treasure. He really felt blessed by becoming Aksai’s disciple.
