Chapter 306: Hydra – 3
“Raaaarhhhhh!!” A distant roar echoed across the forest, the sound reverberating through the trees and startling the territory members.
“W-what was that?!” Aina shouted, rushing out of her hut with her bow clutched tightly in her hands.
Soon, the others gathered as well, except Brok, who was out for fare services.
But then, a high-pressure beam tore above the forest canopy, the air itself seeming to split as it passed.
“Such a strong water beam!” Veronica exclaimed, already scrambling to move out of the way. Suddenly, earthen walls jutted out of the ground one after another, rising in rapid succession as they formed a layered barrier in front of the territory.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
“W-we survived…” Virat muttered shakily. The pressure behind the beam was so immense that all of them would have been obliterated at the moment of contact. Not to mention its girth—the beam was thick enough to cover the height of two men standing on top of each other.
“B-but who defended us?” Mira asked nervously, her eyes landing on the layered earthen walls that were now half broken and crumbling.
But what happened next shocked them even more; more than 20 floating Earthen Spikes formed out of nowhere and bolted toward the direction from which the water beam had come in an arc.
“Where are those spears getting shot from and where are they going?!” Sylva asked, straining her eyes, but the dense foliage ahead obstructed their vision completely.
Virat quickly scanned the surroundings, spotted a decently tall tree, and climbed it in swift motions. His movement was unusually fast for someone who seemed so normal. He focused his gaze, and suddenly his entire body shook, his face paling.
“What happened, brother!” Veronica called out anxiously.
“I-its a beast! A huge beast!”
“What beast?” Aina asked, panic lacing her voice.
“I-I don’t know… but it has a draconic face and 4 limbs with a very long tail!”
The next instant, his eyes narrowed further as he caught sight of a figure attacking it.
“Sir Leon…?”
Then he saw the beast getting struck by a two-way solar beam that blazed against its head.
“That’s Sir Leo’s attack!” He focused harder, his pupils constricting unnaturally to a great degree.
After a moment, he clearly saw 3 to 4 figures moving in coordination.
“Sir Leo is fighting it!” he declared as relief washed over the group below.
“Miss Lily and Sir Leon are also present!”
Aina climbed the same tree as Virat, though she was far slower than him. She tried to look where he was looking but couldn’t make out the specific details—the draconic head or the figures fighting it.
“How can you tell that?” she asked, squinting.
“Because I can see it?”
Before Aina could grow more confused, Veronica answered calmly.
“It’s his talent, don’t worry about it. If he says our territory leaders are fighting, then it’s true.”
“What’s his talent?” Sylva asked, but Veronica pretended not to hear her and instead questioned Virat further about the situation. The girls understood they weren’t trusted much.
Soon, another round of Earthen Spears formed and launched toward the hydra with sharp whistling sounds.
“Who is making all these?! They even defended the territory previously…” Mira asked again, her voice filled with confusion.
“I have seen Sir Leo use earthen walls as defence in his matches; it must be him!” Veronica suggested.
“But isn’t he there? Why is he attacking from here then?”
“Master Leo has installed a defence array around the territory.” Miho arrived and cleared the confusion with the predetermined lie Leo had told her to say.
She explained that they had gone to tame a new beast and that the hydra was their target. She also mentioned that the territory members were to remain inside and defend against any unexpected attacks.
“It’s a hydra?!” Aina exclaimed, eyes widening.
“But don’t hydras have multiple heads? I only saw it having a single head…” Virat said, frowning slightly.
Suddenly, something clicked in Sylva, and she began speaking hesitantly.
“I-It must have Super Bloodline… I have read that only Mortal bloodline hydras have their heads grown beforehand. A Super, on the other hand, regenerates heads after the first one gets cut off.”
She swallowed and continued.
“And another fact is that starting from Super Bloodline, hydras can wield multiple elements, and one head is assigned for each element. But before the heads differentiate, the resting hydra only has a single head, also known as the master head, which wields all the elements. I-I don’t know the specifics of the Noble Bloodline Hydra…”
“W-wow… a Super Bloodline draconic beast… If any of the three are able to tame it, our territory might actually become the strongest in the 1st and 2nd term!”
But Virat interjected, his eyes still locked ahead.
“It looks like a spirit! It has that glow over its body…”
At the mention of spirit, the three girls’ eyes lit up instantly.
“Miss Lily should tame it!!!” they all said simultaneously.
Miho then confirmed that it was indeed Lily who was supposed to tame it.
“But I didn’t know a Spirit Hydra resided so close to our territory.”
“Yeah… I was actually planning to wander there… damn. My laziness saved my hide,” Aina muttered, letting out a shaky breath.
“That beast is so big! Though not accurate, I can comfortably say its height is bigger than 20 meters!” Virat added, awe creeping into his voice.
“S-so big! Do you think Sir Leo and the others will be able to defeat it? What if they don’t? It has already attacked our territory once…”
Their thoughts were cut off as more earthen spears formed and shot toward the hydra in rapid succession.
—Hydra’s Location—
Slash! Slash!
Two deep slashes appeared on either side of the Hydra’s neck—Leon in his Soul-Fusion form used his elongated claws, while Leo drove his dagger across the scaled flesh.
“Leon! Another round, this time from the side!” Leo instructed sharply, jumping aside and gripping his dagger tightly.
Leon leapt toward the opposite flank, muscles tensing as he prepared to deliver a decapitating blow.
“Lily, Niri, Treant! Bind the Hydra!” Leo ordered as all three unleashed [Vine Estranglement], thick vines erupting from the ground to coil around its legs, tail, and neck.
“Grivak! You too! Use the chains to help bind it!” The Scorpion beast responded instantly to Leon’s command as 3 magic circles lit up on the ground, and astral chains shot toward the hydra to restrain its head.
Both Leon and Leo lunged toward the same side, aiming to strike at the previously cut portion of the arm, which was already regenerating at a visible pace.
But at that moment, the Hydra jerked its head violently. The astral chains shattered like brittle glass. It opened its maw wide, revealing razor-sharp teeth that began glowing with dense purple poison energy. And the direction of its strike was directly along Leo’s path.
“SHIT!” Leo cursed. There was no time to change direction, and the Hydra was about to bite him.
