Absolute Beast Dominion - Chapter 312: Slaves - 1

Chapter 312: Slaves – 1
Leo’s eyes narrowed.
“What did you say?” he asked, looking straight into the guard’s eyes.
The guard was taken aback; a faker should have been panicking right now.
There were many people who faked their identities by somehow figuring out others’ personal IDs and retrieving someone else’s beast alongside their own—just like Leo was trying to take Leon’s beast by claiming they were too injured to come and retrieve them themselves.
Smack!
The priest smacked the guard.
“Idiot! Apologise! He is the first-ranked fresher who can display a strength of 5-star.” The priest purposefully stressed the word 5-star, making the situation clear. Temples appointed for freshers have a priest of maximum strength of Peak 3-star, so if Leo wanted, he could easily deal with the priest himself. Being the 1st-ranked student, the priest doubted that the academy would do anything for him or take action against Leo.
“W-what?” the guard stammered as he saw the tablet in the priest’s hand, clearly displaying Leo’s and Leon’s names—and Leo’s face on the screen.
The guard looked back at Leo as if matching the faces.
“I am sorry! Please forgive me!” the guard apologised quickly, bending very low on his waist. It wasn’t that he didn’t know or hadn’t seen Leo; it was just that he didn’t expect to see him here.
Leo accepted the apology with a nod, and after making the 200,000 AC payment, he went to retrieve the beasts. Niri circled him twice joyfully before Leo unsummoned her. Now, only Grivak was the problem.
Grivak had already become a High 3-star beast after consuming some treasures Leon gave him, and with a body size of 7 to 8 meters long and 2 to 3 meters tall, he was difficult to carry back on any flying beast’s back.
As he thought about a solution and looked around, he recalled something.
“Didn’t the temple have that area?” Leo muttered, remembering that people of other races who were captured needed to be brought to the temple to wear the slavery collar.
Alongside slave traders, the official priests in the academy had also learned and were authorised to deal with slaves, making things easier for the academy.
Leo instructed the scorpion to wait patiently while he checked the facility out.
The guard could only raise his hand to stop Leo, but reluctantly put it down. There was no specific rule saying the beast needed to be taken away immediately. And Leo wasn’t obligated to deal with their fear problem.
As Leo walked further in, he was amazed to see so many areas in the temple assigned just for freshers. And it wasn’t like they were unused; people and beasts kept appearing back-to-back, as if putting themselves at risk was normal. There were even some people who were not students but residents of graduated students.
It was then that Leo reached the area and, for the first time, would see what other races looked like.
The area for converting people into slaves was large—very large. A long, tall hallway stretched ahead, lined with student stalls selling worn-out and good-quality equipment of various kinds, basic toiletries, some ’tools’ that would help make slaves more obedient—like whips—and finally clothes.
Leo raised a brow when he saw that clothes had a specific area assigned to them, and the most highlighted section displayed some ’special’ clothes that masters would like their slaves to wear. And as if there was no hint of shamelessness, many people went back and forth to such shops to get their preferred clothing for their slaves.
As he moved deeper, he finally got a glimpse of a member of a foreign race.
A dwarf
.
It was a robust male dwarf with thick bushy beard, standing at a height of 4’2″. Though the clothes were proper, they were soiled, and he had a thick black metal collar around his neck. If Leo had to say, it looked very ugly. And as if the dwarf himself knew how pitiful and uncertain his condition was—or would be—he wore a solemn expression, as if he already knew he was set to slave away for the rest of his life.
The only plus point Leo saw was the dwarf’s rough hands rippling with strength; it simply meant he was either a skilled craftsman or a fighter. And even if of another race, a skilled person always held value.
After going deeper, he spotted an unusual slave.
“A goblin…?” Leo muttered in confusion as the system prompt appeared.
Goblin (High 1-star) – Mortal Bloodline [Intelligent – Juvenile]
Leo was taken aback. This was the same beast he had killed back in Kendru City, but that one hadn’t been an intelligent one. Nonetheless, it was still classified as a beast, confirmed by the fact that the system responded at the goblin’s sight.
“If beasts can be enslaved… then what is the work of beast masters?”
A beast tamer’s primary job was to control a wild beast and make them capable of helping the tamer in various tasks. But if they could be controlled by a slave collar, then what was left for a beast tamer?
Leo couldn’t suppress the urge to find an answer and began looking for a way to get it. Along the way, he spotted many races, which included another beast he had killed before—an orc. He kept surveying the variety and eventually found the ’beastkins’ that Leon had mentioned earlier.
Human-like figures with animal features—wolf ears and tails, cat ears and tails, horse lower bodies–centaurs, snake lower bodies–lamia, human lower bodies with a lion’s head, males and females and many others. But what Leo hadn’t spotted were elves. Neither males nor females.
Leon had specifically stressed the type of wood elves, though Leo didn’t know how to differentiate between them; he could figure that out after he saw any type of elf.
But the thing he found in common was that every other race member had that ugly collar around their neck. No one was without them.
It was then that he spotted a familiar face—the dark brown-haired fellow with similar regal eyes.
Uraan.
And trailing behind him with heavy steps were 4 people, or rather slaves. They had avian features, with feathers growing through the dorsal side of their arms. All were females. But the most striking part Leo noticed was that instead of the heavy black metal collars around their necks, they had smaller, almost oriental, light green colour collars. And another thing he noted was that, unlike others, Uraan had made them wear good-looking, modest clothing that matched their greenish avian features.
Uraan felt a faint tingling at the back of his head and sharply turned toward Leo. His eyes widened in pleasant surprise when he spotted him but Leo was was taken aback at how quick Uraan spotted him.
