Absolute Beast Dominion - Chapter 316: Bane Of Spirits

Chapter 316: Bane Of Spirits
Chapter 316: Bane Of Spirits
Leo already knew that hiding things from monstrous beings like professors was worthless.
But even before Leo could say anything, Katherine spoke.
“Hubby was right, you are indeed a tough nut,” Katherine remarked as she observed Leo closely.
“Even when a professor is right in front of you, you are thinking of ways to lie.” Then she continued.
“Let me guess, you people tried taming the spirit called from the hydra core that Lily received as a reward, and you failed.”
Leo was shocked that Katherine could tell that.
If she can say this much in our first meeting without me saying anything, then wouldn’t Professor Brant already know I was saying half-truths all along? Damn… I was really on borrowed time. Wait… I am still on borrowed time.
“Yes, that would be correct,” Leo replied evenly. There was nothing to hide.
But hearing Leo’s response, Katherine frowned slightly.
He is still saying the half-truth…? How? He didn’t say anything particular… wait—
“Did you people really manage to defeat the hydra?!” Katherine blurted out after realising that she had added the phrase ’you failed’
in her last question.
Leo was baffled.
How the fuc—?!
He hadn’t said much, but Katherine had literally read him like a book. Seeing Leo’s expression, Katherine’s amazement slowly turned into amusement, and she giggled softly.
“Curious as to why I can figure things out by your little statements?” she said with a playful smile. “Hehe, you will understand when you reach 5-star.” Then she added cheekily,
“Just so you know, Brant knew all along that you had been saying half-truths. You are really lucky that he is a cool man, or else you might already know what would have happened.”
Hearing that, cold sweat formed over Leo’s back.
“How—”
He was cut off when she suddenly turned toward Grivak and walked over. Without hesitation, she ran her fingers over the smooth diamond surface of the beast.
Contrary to Leo’s expectation, Grivak showed no rebellious behaviour and relaxed under her touch.
“Wow… Grivak. Kaelion allowed you to get hurt so much?” she muttered as she sensed something within the scorpion’s body.
Leo didn’t know how or why Katherine was familiar with Grivak or Leon, but what he did catch was the name Kaelion.
That bastard has been hiding his real name all this time?
“Hm?” Suddenly, Katherine turned back toward Leo.
“Oh, Kaelion? Yeah, that’s his real name,” she said casually. “Now don’t go around and spread it. He has worked hard to hide that hated name given to him by his father.”
She turned back to Grivak and continued stroking it gently as she used some sort of skill to soothe the beast.
“Missed me, right? Fufu. I will now meet you on a regular basis,” she murmured, before glancing back at Leo.
“Now tell me, how did she—or rather the three of you—manage to defeat that hydra? Especially when it would have been a mid-4-star beast after becoming a spirit? And yeah, don’t lie. With such low defence on your spiritual boundary, you and your thoughts are like an open book to peak 5-star beings like me.”
“Huh what?” Leo questioned, but Katherine raised a finger, silencing him.
“You chose Gunther as your master, right? I am sure, with your growth speed and his way of teaching, you will learn everything. But first, answer my questions right now.”
“We managed to wear it down to a degree where Lily would be able to contract it,” he said.
Hearing the word contract, Katherine’s eyes widened.
“Wait! She actually contracted it…? Wow… she is a real monster…” she said, covering her mouth with her fingers in awe. But then she suddenly realised something.
“No! She has an 8-star spirit caller talent! She must get at least 50% of the beast stats!” She looked down as she quickly did the mental calculation.
“No no no no! Why did you allow her to contract it without our presence?! Her body will overload! If she hasn’t been overloaded, then she might be now! We need to go! Quick!”
“Wait! She is under control now! I made her expend all her mana, and she is currently unconscious!” Leo clarified quickly.
“You made her…?” Katherine muttered, shaking her head as she forced herself to calm down.
She looked at Grivak once again.
“Wait… if Grivak was defeated so soon, how did you manage to wear the spirit hydra down?”
“Huh? I mean, after it was defeated, we fought it until it submitted…?”
Katherine frowned.
“Grivak is supposed to be a bane of spirits with his body structure and attack properties… I can see why it was attacked by the hydra first… but you managed to wear it down without him? Like a mid-4-star beast with just 3 of you?”
“I know you are a pseudo-4-star and strong. K himself might be a Peak 3-star by now. As for Lily… her strength should be high 3-star. Now that is a strong—very strong—group, but nowhere near enough to ’wear down’ a mid-4-star spirit beast.”
Leo grimaced internally, thinking his cover was about to be blown. Still, he took his chances and spoke with full confidence.
“Lily said we just needed to make the beast go all out. Also, the spirit beast wasn’t in full power, as it could only utilise a limited quantity of mana.”
Katherine suddenly realised something and lightly bumped her fist into her palm.
“Oh yes! How can I forget that the spirit beast called by a spirit caller during the contracting process has a very small amount of mana? It makes sense now.” She nodded to herself, forgetting to check whether Leo had spoken a lie or another half-truth.
Then she looked around as if searching for someone.
“Where’s K? He still hasn’t arrived to pick Grivak?” she asked excitedly.
“I came running after the news about a strong crystalline scorpion appearing in the temple spread. I knew it had to be K. Where is he?”
“He is back in the territory,” Leo replied.
“Huh, why? Who’s going to pick Grivak then?” she asked.
“I am.”
Katherine’s eyes narrowed.
“Why?”
“Because he is bedridden due to injuries.”
Her eyes narrowed even more.
“He is not the type to leave his beast like that… and ’bedridden’ is not an excuse he will ever use for not attending to his beasts, if he is even slightly capable to walk” she said, eyeing Leo dangerously.
Leo sighed internally.
Sorry, Miho and Leon, but I cannot defend you anymore.
