Chapter 321: Secret Realm – 2
“No, I am confident she can attack. Though I guess due to her presence, the realm will limit the number of attacking individuals who can enter,” Kaelion said calmly.
“What?” Leo frowned, getting confused with all the convoluted explanations.
“I know it’s confusing,” Kaelion said with a faint sigh. “I had to study for a full year before I completely grasped how and why secret realms function this way. In simple words, secret realms are designed in a way that forces their inhabitants and the intruders—us—to fight on near equal footing.”
“If Lily’s rank is equal to the highest ranking inhabitant, then only 2 Lilys can enter the realm as attacking members, since both Lilys will stand on equal footing with all the inhabitants combined—”
“And the rest of us might be spectators caught in the crossfire,” Leo finished.
“Yes.”
“But how will my attack not work?” Leo asked, leaning forward slightly. “Like, I cannot attack? Will my body be restrained?”
“No,” Kaelion replied, shaking his head. “Whenever you attack, a world-class barrier will surround the inhabitant’s body within a split second to defend it. As for what’s world-class? You will understand when you go through the books on the higher floors of the library.”
Leo nodded slowly, absorbing the explanation.
“What abo—”
“As for support-type skills unleashed by beings like professors that buff attackers like us students,” Kaelion continued before Leo could finish, “a world-class cancelling magic will be invoked by the realm to remove the buff the moment it is applied.”
“Yes, even healing skills won’t work. So students entering a secret realm are in real danger of dying even when they are within the academy, since life bracelets won’t work. This is the reason the entry fee is high—it’s meant to deter foolish people from taking rash action.”
“This…” Leo muttered under his breath.
“It sounds awfully in favour of the inhabitants. Does the world even want us to enter the secret realm?” He scratched his head lightly. “But first, how is the world doing such things? Is it some sort of sentient living being? Haha.”
Leo chuckled at his own joke, but Kaelion remained silent, only narrowing his eyes at him.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Leo asked.
Then his eyes widened as the implication struck him.
“Wait… don’t tell me—”
Leo stopped speaking as Kaelion raised his index finger to his lips, gesturing for silence.
Their discussion was also being heard by Miho and Lily. They hadn’t said anything, simply listening quietly, but the moment Kaelion made that gesture, they understood that it wasn’t a topic to be spoken about openly. Even that slight hint already suggested something far greater than they should casually discuss.
“I will answer your first question,” Kaelion finally said in a low voice. “Yes, the secret realm heavily favours the inhabitants because they want to survive…”
He paused, as if deliberating whether revealing this information was truly a good idea.
His gaze drifted around the surroundings.
He only saw people he could trust.
Especially Leo. He spoke so little about his own secrets that even Kaelion didn’t know what his abilities truly were, despite nearly living beside him. Lily was the same. As for Miho, he had no doubts about her either. Only a month had been enough for him to judge their character.
Kaelion sighed softly.
“Just understand that each world that was destroyed needs as many of its inhabitants as possible for its own survival on a grand scale.”
He closed his eyes as memories surfaced—his father’s words echoing clearly in his mind. Even if he hated the man for what he had allowed to happen, he could never forget those words that had been burned into his thoughts.
“Kaelion, remember this: this new world that we live in has become a chessboard with multiple players, and we are its chess pieces.”
“But the funny thing is, the players in this chess game are already on the verge of death. In fact, many have already died—all because of their selfishness to gain greater power and inviting someone to play the game they shouldn’t have.”
“But now that they have realised their mistake, they are doing their best to make amends—or rather, survive.”
“So they gave us strength. Strength to fight on their behalf and ensure their survival at the cost of our own.”
“I was naive back then and accepted an offer that has kept me trapped to this day… and will keep me trapped forever.”
“But you are not the same. Become strong and break free from the shackles of your birthplace to choose what is correct ack—!”
That was where it ended.
His father had been forced to stop by an unseen force that made him vomit blood continuously, even though he was considered one of the strongest individuals in the world.
Kaelion opened his eyes.
The others had already finished their meals. Apparently, they had quietly left him alone when he went silent, understanding that he needed a moment.
But Leo’s thoughts churned violently at Kaelion’s words.
“A fight for the survival of worlds…” he muttered softly.
Though Kaelion hadn’t revealed much with his short explanation, Leo understood the general meaning behind it. And he also understood that whatever he had come to know until now wasn’t even 1% of what was actually happening in the world.
As they were preparing to depart, Leo suddenly recalled something when he noticed Virat leaving for the forest with two daggers and a crossbow strapped to his back.
“Virat!” Leo called out.
Virat immediately turned around and walked back. His grey hair was still damp with sweat, making Leo realize he had been training.
“Here.”
Leo raised his hand as the Desert Eagle appeared, along with a spatial ring containing the grenade and bullets.
Virat’s eyes widened instantly.
“Leader Leo, this…”
What Leo had just extended toward him was his 1st year goal in the academy. Even after the 100,000 AC compensation he had received from the academy because of Shub—an instructor who had held him captive—it should have still taken him a full year.
“It’s for you,” Leo said simply. “I am not giving you these for free. I need results.”
“And yeah, don’t call me Leader Leo… it feels weird.”
“Then… Lord Leo,” Virat said respectfully, still staring at the weapon in disbelief. “These things… they are far too valuable for me. I am afraid I cannot yield the results that you desire.”
Leo wanted to stop the “Lord” thing as well, but it still felt slightly better than “Leader.”
“What’s your talent?” Leo asked after a moment. “If I may ask.”
Virat immediately shook his head.
“You can ask anything, my lord!”
“My talent is 3-star—[Superior Body]. From what I have observed, it makes my body slightly better and stronger than normal human beings.”
Virat spoke with a dejected expression, already expecting scolding—or worse, being thrown out of the territory. After all, a mere 3-star talent was obviously far lower than whatever star talent Leo possessed.
He spoke it freely because he didn’t want his sister to be troubled due to some false expectation. His lips quivered as he thought Leo would snatch the gun and ring away.
