Absolute Beast Dominion - Chapter 361: Crystal Fish

Chapter 361: Crystal Fish
Chapter 361: Crystal Fish
Leo sharply looked towards Brant, who had just finished pulling out another 3-meter salmon.
“You knew?” he asked.
Brant swiftly put away all his fishing gear and looked towards Leo.
“If I had said, you would have missed this valuable experience,” Brant said with a shrug as he approached Leo.
Leo clicked his tongue.
This geezer just wanted time to fish. Wait… the last thing I know is that he might himself be preventing these fish from coming on my fishing hook! Leo was left dumbfounded. This had to be the most accurate thing, especially when Brant was strong enough to bypass Leo’s senses.
Not to mention the immaculate timing of his dialogue! Leo wanted to complain, but Brant had already taken his fishing rod and yanked out the crystal fish.
Leo’s attention was diverted to the meter-long, almost transparent fish, with only its eyes somewhat visible.
Thomp!–Splash! Splash! Tik tik.
The fish thrashed on the rocky platform, its wet body slapping against the stone as it tried to find its way back to the water.
Brant extended his hand and aimed a finger at the fish. The fish started to float as Brant used telekinesis to bring it closer to them.
“This—” Brant said, bringing the fish closer to Leo’s face.
“—is the fish you will need for a proper, clean drinking water supply for your territory. Look closely.” Brant stopped as he also started to observe the fish.
Leo faintly felt that the telekinetic field holding the fish expanded, and instead of the barrier sticking close to the fish’s body, it moved outward, suspending the fish in mid-air.
They observed that within 10 seconds, the transparent body of the fish started to drip with water as the moisture around it continuously condensed.
“This is the trait I am talking about; it allows this fish to continuously condense water around its body. And though it’s a clear water fish, it can still survive in a salty region because the continuous formation of fresh water around its body reduces the effect of salt water, making it more comfortable. Thus, it can live in estuaries, and estuaries are very fertile regions, so it gets more food, ultimately letting it survive in this dangerous world.”
There were also other reasons but Leo was smart enough to understand, especially after seeing the Orca, why would they even bother eating crystal fish when they were so small? Crystal fish predators were smaller and lived deeper in the land towards the river upstream, so living in estuary was survival tactic.
Leo understood as he curiously looked at the fish. The fish was completely see-through, like looking through a clear glass window, but if observed closely, there were tiny blood vessels and finally, the most striking part—the prominent eye that was the most visible part of the body. And the eyes themselves were very small. The body was sleek and streamlined; no wonder he couldn’t spot them in the deep water, allowing Brant to play with him.
Water dripped continuously from its body, and Leo could tell this beast could actually survive out of water with this trait. Even if thrown over land, it would eventually form a small puddle and live there.
“But Professor, how many of these fish will be required for me to supply my whole territory with a continuous supply of water?” he asked.
Brant thought for a while and gave an estimate.
“I will say, take a minimum of 50. And though it may seem small in number, they also have a high reproduction rate, so within months you will see a large quantity of them.”
Leo thought for a while.
Excess water is no harm… rather, it will help water the vegetation on Howl’s back and will reduce the burden on Niri and Miho… now even the elves.
Leo thought this because the greenery over Howl’s back was increasing day by day, and he had even received a signal from Howl that it wanted to expand its body. It had gathered enough energy again to do so. Last time, Howl did it in his spiritual space without Leo’s knowledge; this time, he would see it with his own eyes. But before that, he needed to send the territory members away. Howl’s existence was classified information.
I guess letting the Elves know this would be fine; they cannot betray me, Leo thought. Rather, he suspected they might start worshipping Howl like Bigfoot did.
Oh shoot, should have left Niri behind for their peace of mind…
Leo forgot to do that. Niri’s existence was almost divine to them, and her presence would make it easier for the Elves to accept their new circumstances. But he wondered if their faith would shift after seeing Niri’s mischievousness with their own eyes.
Well, Lily has the treant…
With that thought, he shifted his attention back to the crystal fish.
“But Professor Brant… If it’s like you said—high reproduction rate—then won’t they completely fill my water channels? Especially when they don’t have a shortage of food with so much beast meat and magical fruits we consume?”
“You think in the right direction. For that, I will suggest you put other fish that will eat the Crystal Fish eggs into the water channels.”
Leo’s interest was piqued.
“Others? Which sort?”
“Hmmm… Slitfish that drag along the riverbed—perfect since their natural diet is other fish eggs; then Minnow—the same, they pretend to be stones in riverbeds and eat eggs. All these are passive, ordinary bloodline beasts that are easy to domesticate and won’t attack territory members even if they fall into the water channels.”
“This will keep the eggs of other fish in check, and in case their population increases, you can just fry them as a light snack.”
Leo raised his brow.
“Even this crystal fish?”
“Ho? You don’t know? If cooked well, they taste great. And if we are here, let me tell you a fact.”
“What is it?” Leo asked.
“You see this crystal fish? The fact that they can be domesticated and can condense water around them makes them very valuable in desert regions. You can sell one such fish for nearly 100 gold.”
“100 gold for this fish!” Leo exclaimed, looking at the crystal fish in a different light.
In later years, I will definitely roam the world… I might come across desert territories… I can strike rich… Leo thought.
Brant added more oil to the flame.
“They might go for 10 gold—25,000 AC per fish in the academy itself. Doesn’t mean if I can find it easily, others can too.”
Leo’s face became determined.
“Professor, how many fish can we carry at once?”
