Chapter 376: Is It A Bird? Or a Plane?
Lily had already reached the room by the time all the boys were at each corner, but even before she could enter, an extreme wind blew through the hole at the centre of the room, flinging everybody away and plastering them against the walls. Lily herself stayed at the entrance, hands crossed in front of her to reduce the wind’s impact.
Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! BAM!
All four boys crashed into different corners of the room, while Lily remained outside the entrance. But even before they could collect themselves, something came crashing down through the widened hole.
BOOOOM!
Rock, dust, and pebbles flew everywhere, pelting the already battered boys. Thankfully, Lily was spared because the narrow entrance blocked most of the debris.
“Argh…”
“Whoa—arg…”
“Damn, what happened?!”
Virat and Brok groaned, their injuries more severe than the others. Tavian was slightly hurt, while Leo and Kaelion were relatively unharmed.
The dust settled quickly due to the heavy rain pouring through the hole, and they finally saw what had crashed.
“Is it some kind of bird?!” Brok asked, trying to get up, hopeful he might get to tame some weaker avian beast that had been injured in the storm.
“What is it?” Tavian asked, activating the body engraving healing array to treat whatever injuries he had sustained.
Leo and Kaelion had already approached it, aura surging around their bodies, ready to defend against whatever it was.
But when they saw the figure—
“Uncle?!”
“Professor Brant?!”
Both spoke at the same time as they immediately cancelled their skills. Hearing them, Tavian and Lily relaxed. Lily promptly started mending the hole that had been created, but Sylrael arrived soon enough and took charge.
Brant was carried to a different spot and laid down on a leafy bed the elves quickly made.
“Eeerrgg…” Brant groaned in pain, falling back on the bed when he tried to sit upright with the support of his hand.
He was covered in blistering burns from head to toe. The clothes over his torso were torn to shreds, revealing a body far too fit and toned for an old man. Every muscle was highly defined and thrummed with suppressed power.
Leo tried using his healing magic. Lily used hers as well, and even Sylrael was called to cast her healing magic on him, but there was negligible effect.
“Leave it. Uncle is a higher-ranked existence than us. Our inferior powers won’t work on him. And I also don’t think this much injury is enough to kill him,” Kaelion said, and Leo stopped using his magic.
As they waited for Brant to wake up, Virat, Brok, and the others naturally left, leaving only Leo, Kaelion, Tavian, Lily, Miho, and Sylrael behind.
“So… is anyone going to tell me why Professor Brant is wearing a skin mask to make himself look older?” Leo asked, though the question was clearly directed at Kaelion, since Brant was his uncle.
“To look old?” Kaelion replied simply.
But before Leo could ask anything more, Brant woke up and turned sideways with a groan, trying to avoid putting weight on his most injured side.
“Wow, nearly died in there,” Brant said, huffing slightly as, all of a sudden, his body began healing at an accelerated pace.
He cast a cautious glance around and then sighed in relief. Though Leo sensed that the relieved sigh wasn’t because he had survived or was somewhere safe, but rather because of something else… he didn’t know, but he felt some familiar feeling from it?
“K, do your uncle and teacher a favour and hide me somewhere. Fast,” Brant said, nudging at his nearly peeled-off, burnt skin mask.
“Looks like I can’t pretend to be an old man in front of you people anymore,” he added, looking at Leo.
“Wha—”
“Hide me first. Make a hole or anything and throw me in there. And don’t take me out until I say,” Brant said again, cutting Leo off while lying on the leafy bed with a pained expression.
“But why?” Leo asked.
“Hide me, fast!” Brant insisted.
So Leo did it. He formed another tunnel inside the bunker. Brant staggered inside, and after a few steps, he collapsed onto the floor. Leo covered the tunnel again, sealing him inside.
“Don’t reveal my location to anyone!” Brant’s voice came through the small air hole Leo had left for ventilation.
“Why is he behaving like that?” Leo asked.
“No, the better question is—what does he want to hide from?” Tavian said.
“If something can threaten a professor, what chances do we have against it if it attacks?”
But Leo responded after thinking for a while.
“Professor wouldn’t risk our lives if that were the case… maybe he needs time to heal his body? He was pretty seriously injured. I saw him flying with that king beast on his eagle. He might have been struck by lightning, judging by the burns on his body.”
Tavian looked amazed.
“Really? Was Professor Brant really flying with that King? Damn!”
“No wonder he’s called the ’Storm.’ He isn’t even afraid of the storm created by a King Tier Beast and apparently rides on it.”
“Wait,” Leo suddenly said, realizing something.
“What happened to his variant Skyrend Eagle? He was flying on top of it.”
Hearing him, the group fell silent.
“Did it die? And he suffered a soul backlash? He must be trying to meditate in that hidden place.”
“Wouldn’t beasts—or even people—get teleported away before they die within the academy?” Kaelion said.
Hearing that, the speculation about the beast’s death was dismissed.
“Then who is he even hiding fro—”
BOOOM!
Another crash came through the same hole Brant had fallen from.
“Get ready!” Leo commanded as they quickly charged their attacks.
But when they reached the spot, they were once again taken aback and cancelled their attacks.
“Auntie?” Kaelion said.
“Teacher?” Lily called.
“Professor Katherine…?” Leo muttered.
Katherine seemed unusually serious, and the playful glint that was always present in her eyes was nowhere to be seen.
Then the realization dawned on two people at once. Leo and Kaelion both understood why Brant had wanted to be hidden as soon as possible.
Katherine’s sharp eyes turned directly toward them as the elves once again resumed repairing the broken ceiling.
“Where is that idiot?” Katherine demanded.
