Chapter 379: Opportunity To Strike Rich – 1
After deliberating over Katherine’s words for a while, they concluded that there was no use in pondering. In the end, every question could be answered by only one thing, which they had already been doing.
That was to get strong.
“So… may I ask the reason why Professor Brant was riding on his eagle alongside that king beast?” Leo broke the silence while they ate some berries.
“Because he is an idiot,” Katherine said simply.
“No,” Brant refuted at once, his eyes opening suddenly.
“I was riding alongside it because I needed its essence to purify my Storm’s bloodline,” Brant said.
Hearing this, Katherine became alarmed, as if recalling something.
“You! What happened to Storm? Is he alright?”
“Heh.” Brant chuckled.
“Remembering him now? Did you get so lost in my handsome face that you forgot your—cough—he is alright,” Brant quickly ended his teasing when he saw Katherine’s mood sour by the moment.
“He is currently inside my spiritual space, stabilising his core, which should be done in half a day or so.”
“Was he injured?” Katherine asked, her eyes narrowing.
Somehow, Leo could tell Brant was actually breaking into a cold sweat at that question.
“N-no, he wasn’t hurt at al—ouch!”
Katherine pinched his cheeks brutally and pulled hard.
“Do I look like a fool? I can tell what you are feeling or thinking now. Do you want me to rip this unblemished skin that you hid for decades?” Katherine hissed.
“I am sorry! But this opportunity is rare!”
“That being was at the cusp of the 8-star! You both could have died for real!” she scolded.
“But wouldn’t the academy teleport him or the eagle away?” Lily asked, completely ignoring Brant’s misery.
“What will the academy do when you get obliterated from existence before even a millisecond passes? That beast was at the cusp of the 8th star, having strength on par with the principal of the academy,” she said.
“Our academy only has a spatial master of Peak 6-star, which means he is guaranteed to save people only from beings up to Peak 6-star; anything above that becomes a grey area. This is enough to tell that this idiot would have died from a single mistake from that Nimbus Tyrant.” Katherine’s eyes darkened.
“Just thinking about this makes me feel like I should lock him up somewhere for the rest of his life—more like for eternity. What will I do if he perishes?” By the end, she became a bit emotional.
The room went quiet for a moment as they focused only on eating, the faint sound of chewing and the rustle of leaves filling the silence. But their minds churned with various thoughts.
They all knew who the other girl was who would do the same as Katherine.
Lily.
But they didn’t dare point it out, because apparently, now there were two people in the room with cold sweat trickling down their spines.
Brant was obvious, but now even Leo could tell what was going on in Lily’s mind. Their previous assumption that they were unkillable in the academy had been shattered, and thus Lily’s alertness increased. Her brain had already started coming up with various ideas and plans, and Leo could almost tell what they were.
After those two, it was Kaelion whose eyes narrowed.
Auntie and Lily… they both somehow feel the same… And Miho will be staying with them the most…
Now there was a third person in the room with cold sweat trickling down their whole body.
“Cough, anyways, I am sure Professor Brant knew what he was doing; he came down relatively unscathed in our territory,” Leo tried to change the topic and save Brant, but he forgot one thing.
“Leo… you do know you have low-level defences in your spiritual boundary and that I can read you like a book?” Katherine said, her eyes sharp.
Shit!
“What I meant to ask was why Professor Brant needed to fly alongside that monstrosity?” Leo quickly tried another save.
Katherine let out a small giggle. Somehow, every other man or boy would try to save Brant from her, be it a student like Leo, a vice principal like Tarun, or even a perverted bastard like Lu.
But Brant never complained about it, since only he and Katherine knew who was the real one getting the lessons behind closed doors.
“He wanted Storm to absorb the Nimbus Tyrant’s essence so that Storm’s bloodline could be purified and advance to the next stage. And by judging how happy he had been before getting injured, Storm must have succeeded.”
“Yeah, he did. I can confidently say Storm’s noble bloodline has advanced to Royal Bloodline, and not only that, he has advanced to the next rank, too. He now sits at Peak 5-star strength,” Brant said, setting aside Katherine’s hands and sitting upright. He was now nearly healed.
“But how?” Leo asked. He only knew two ways a beast’s bloodline could be purified. The first was his talent, and the second was when a beast ranked up.
“You will learn about it later, but for an idea, I will say beasts of rank 7 and higher can help similar types of beasts advance their bloodlines. It’s much like a king giving nobility titles to his subjects.”
Leo frowned.
“What rank?” he asked again.
“You cannot understand it. Grow strong, brat,” Brant simply said.
Leo couldn’t hear which rank beast could help other beasts advance their bloodline, though he guessed it must be a 7-star since the Nimbus Tyrant was a 7-star beast.
“But why would it do that?” Leo asked.
“To gather followers and loyal subjects. It’s not just us humans who can build civilisations and settlements, you know,” Brant said.
“But why did it help you then? You weren’t going to be his follower…”
Leo understood the reason Brant crashed into the territory. It seemed that the king didn’t want Brant to leech off for free.
“But don’t many beasts die too?” Leo asked.
“Yes, they do. But why do you think the king should bother with them? Yes, they wanted to be followers, but the king wouldn’t want any weak follower.” Then Brant thought of something.
“On that note, don’t you think you are missing out on potential money right now?” Brant said.
“Huh?”
