>Send help request to allied territories?
—
“Damn,” Leo muttered under his breath as the notification was read.
After reading through it, he was genuinely surprised. The points awarded for defeating him were on an entirely different level. He also chose to ignored the option to seek help from allied territories without a second thought.
It wasn’t long before everyone gathered. It was 7 PM on 5 February, leaving them with 29 hours before the bounty began.
Tavian, however, was absent—forced to speed up his work after the notification arrived.
Present were Leo, Kaelion, Lily, Miho, Sylrael, and Naelith. The rest had already been instructed to prepare accordingly, while Veronica was told to move her instruments and important research materials into the bunker.
Leo scratched his forehead awkwardly, feeling a bit out of place. There was nothing left to say—because, apparently, their preparations were already complete. The only one lagging behind was Tavian.
“So… what should we even discuss?” he finally asked.
“How to hide our actual strength?” Kaelion replied casually, turning his head towards him.
“Right…” Leo exhaled softly.
That was the real concern. Not defending the territory—but avoiding unnecessary exposure of their true strength.
Sylrael spoke up then, her voice steady.
“If the Lord and others wish to hide their actual strength, the elves can take on the task of defending the territory.”
She paused briefly before continuing.
“We already have 10 sturdy watchtowers built around the perimeter, from which my companions can continuously fire arrows. We are not short on ammunition either—more than 500 newly crafted arrows that can even allow Naelith and me to deal with 4-star beings, over a thousand we already had, and the rest are disposable ones that the Lord brought back.”
She met Leo’s gaze as she continued.
“If what La-Sister Lily said about the attackers being in the 2-star realm is correct, even the disposable arrows will be enough. As for stronger opponents in the 3-star realm, Naelith and I can personally handle them—even if they have beasts of a similar level… though I may still need to utilise the strength of the three girls and the one who uses explosives.”
She drew a quiet breath.
“And for any concentrated wave of attack of beasts, as Lord instructed, we have built arrow traps that can overwhelm and eliminate any being in the 2-star realm and below.”
Her tone carried quiet confidence.
Even if thousands of students attacked, she wasn’t worried. The assaults wouldn’t be coordinated—they would come in scattered waves over the full 24 hours.
But Leo immediately shook his head.
“No. Even you and Naelith aren’t allowed to display your full strength.”
Both elves froze, visibly stunned.
“W-why?” Sylrael asked hesitantly, her voice lowering, as if afraid she had overstepped.
“Nothing special,” Leo replied calmly. “You’ll be coming with us to participate in a very important competition. Revealing your strength now wouldn’t be ideal.”
He paused, then added thoughtfully,
“Though… Naelith might go all-out. Even we need to show that we are capable to a degree.”
Naelith’s ears perked up instantly—but her expression quickly shifted.
“W-wait… does that mean I won’t be participating in that competition?” she asked.
Lily shook her head, agreeing with her.
“We only have limited slots to add people, and Leo alone can’t fill all of them.”
“But we are three,” Kaelion interjected, frowning slightly. “Shouldn’t that allow us to collectively add one more?”
“No,” Lily replied, already having confirmed it through Katherine. “Since we belong to the same territory, the three of us are counted as one. We can only suggest a new person after adding Sylrael, accepting that suggesting is entirely on others.”
“But Naelith is already stronger than most of the top 10. Who wouldn’t accept our suggestion?” Leo asked.
Lily shook her head again.
“It’s because of resource allotment. If we take both Sylrael and Naelith, our personal faction numbers increase.”
She crossed her arms slightly, thinking it through.
“Personal, in the sense that both of them are tied to us—not the other top 10 students. Not to mention, their status directly binds them to you. That means whatever rewards they earn would naturally belong to you as well.”
Her voice turned a little sharper.
“And you are already the strongest, and even they are also among the strongest, then… because of your combined contribution, you might end up taking 50% of the total rewards in the competition alone.”
She didn’t stop there.
“Even me—I’m naturally with you. With my strength included, that share could rise to 65%. No one with common sense, especially people like Lyra and Uraan, would allow us to add another person of our own.”
Leo nodded slowly, understanding.
“But wouldn’t that secure our victory?”
“Yes,” Lily said plainly. “But what’s the point of victory if you get nothing or very little from it?”
“Tsk, greed,” Leo sneered quietly, a faint irritation flashing in his eyes.
He would be deeply disappointed if things turned out that way.
But at the same time… it was natural.
People acted in their own interests.
And for that, he couldn’t truly blame them.
