Chapter 107: Chapter 90: Splitting Up (Second Chapter Coming Soon)
After speaking, Zhang Su pointed in the direction of the gas station, signaling for Lu Yubo and the other two to set off.
The student group of four encouraged each other, and then Pei Lan and Song Yijun followed Lu Yubo, cautiously riding their bicycles into the distance.
Accompanying Zhang Su were Kuang Miao and Chen Hanzhou, who were no longer holding crude table legs or steel pipes, but instead carried batons and steering wheel locks similar to long-handled hammers, scavenged from abandoned vehicles.
They weren’t sophisticated, but definitely much better than their previous weapons, giving them a fighting chance against zombies.
Zhang Su watched Lu Yubo and the others reach the opposite side of the road, then turned to the people beside him: “Remember when you see zombies, hold nothing back. Those things are no longer human, and we only have one life. Use all your potential to fight!”
Everyone nodded with a grave expression.
“Follow me!”
Zhang Su tilted his head towards the gas station and began to slowly move along the base of the Phoenix International’s wall, approaching the gas station.
When the six of them were within thirty meters of the gas station, they encountered zombies wandering at the outermost edge.
Zhang Su raised his hand, and with two strikes, dealt with a zombie in front of Kuang Miao and Chen Hanzhou’s astonished eyes.
The two exchanged glances, each seeing a hint of shock in the other’s eyes. Was killing zombies this easy?
They clearly remembered how they previously hit, smashed, and stabbed zombies with wooden table legs but couldn’t kill them. How come under Zhang Su’s hand, they couldn’t withstand two hits?
“So strong.”
At that moment, Kuang Miao and Song Yijun both thought of the same word.
They finally understood why the other four people listened to Zhang Su without any objection.
“Wait!”
Zhang Su stopped about twenty meters from the alley entrance and whispered, “Move any further, and we’ll enter the zombies’ perception range. Let’s draw them out a bit at a time and finish them off!”
Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan didn’t wait for Zhang Su’s instructions and stepped forward, picking up small stones from the ground and throwing them at the nearest zombie. Once the zombie noticed them, they retreated slowly, like traffickers slowly separating a child from a group by offering candy.
“Your turn, go!”
Zhang Su nodded at Kuang Miao and Chen Hanzhou behind him.
The two didn’t speak, simply pressed their lips and nodded, then lifted their weapons and stepped up to confront the two zombies that were approaching.
“It’s easier to kill if they’re on the ground!”
Zheng Xinyu passed by and reminded them as she went.
Hoo.
Kuang Miao didn’t have time to think about how to make the zombie fall, swinging his baton at the disgusting zombie’s head nearby.
Thud.
Owoo!
The heavy thud sounded, but instead of the imagined scene of heads breaking and bones shattering, the attack further enraged the zombie, which lunged at him even faster.
Similarly, on the other side, Chen Hanzhou’s situation was the same as Kuang Miao’s.
Both thought they had used all their strength in the attack, expecting the same results Zhang Su had when he killed zombies, but reality caught them off guard.
“Keep going! You think there’s a cooldown on your basic attack?”
Zhang Su scolded from behind.
Only after hearing him did they react, dodging and looking for opportunities to continue the assault.
Zhang Su spread his arms to signal the three behind him to dodge, offering no intention to help unless at the very last moment…
If they couldn’t even handle these two zombies, there truly was no way to take this group along!
Things didn’t progress to the worst. After some entanglement, Chen Hanzhou remembered Zheng Xinyu’s advice, performed a sweeping kick to knock the zombie down, and then shattered its head. The steering wheel lock’s head was covered in blood, dripping down through broken plastic pieces.
“Help, help…”
But on Kuang Miao’s side, things weren’t going well. A zombie had knocked him to the ground; he was holding its neck with a baton, neither side giving way.
Seeing this, Chen Hanzhou quickly ran to Kuang Miao’s side, raised the steering wheel lock intending to hit the zombie’s head, but hesitated upon seeing Kuang Miao’s terrified expression. He instead hit the zombie’s waist, bent down, and forcefully lifted it.
“Ugh!”
Kuang Miao let out a muffled cry, coordinating with Chen Hanzhou by pushing up with his left hand while pulling back with his right.
The zombie was instantly flipped onto its side.
Kuang Miao had no time to rest. He stood up like a rocket, stepped on the zombie’s chest, raised the retractable baton high, and stabbed down.
Splurt, splurt, splurt!
Kuang Miao did not have Tan Huajun’s precise talent, pounding repeatedly like a hammer, turning the zombie’s face into a bloody mess. Finally, on the seventh strike, he pierced into the eye socket!
“Good thing this crappy baton isn’t quality, or else you’d have fed the zombie on the first strike!”
Zhang Su was nearby, not too far from Kuang Miao. He wouldn’t help, but he wouldn’t watch someone die without saving them. If Kuang Miao really couldn’t make it, he would intervene, and that would be the end of it.
Kuang Miao’s hands trembled as he looked at the bent and deformed baton, understanding what Zhang Su meant. If it wasn’t for the deformation of the baton, his downward thrust might have rebounded, and he could have actively leaped toward the zombie.
“Hurry up, there’s no time to waste!”
Zhang Su glanced into the distance, vaguely seeing Lu Yubo and the others in position.
Sure enough, before Kuang Miao and Chen Hanzhou could catch their breath, heart-pounding music echoed from a distance.
“Wumeng Mountain connects to mountains beyond the mountains…”
At the same time, three bicycles appeared on the street outside the gas station.
“Hey everybody, look at God!”
Lu Yubo, acting crazy, waved his phone, shouting loudly. After all, the crazier he acted, the more zombies he attracted!
Zombies lack thought; falling for traps is a natural response. After the sound, a large number of zombies inside the gas station turned their heads toward the source of the noise, echoing with low, unintelligible growls.
One by one, staggering figures began to step forward, heading towards the noise.
One, five, ten, the zombies appearing from behind the wall became uncountable in an instant.
Zhang Su and his group stood to the side, feeling the pressure from the swarm of corpses ahead, only feeling a tightening scalp. Being surrounded by this group truly felt like hopeless despair.
“Don’t rush, don’t rush, keep waiting!”
Zhang Su stood first, tensely watching Lu Yubo and the other two on the street.
Lu Yubo seemed to forget about leaving, continuously waving his arms: “Come on, come over, let’s go now, let’s start now!”
“Let’s go, Brother Bo!”
Song Yijun, perched on his bicycle, couldn’t wait to pedal furiously, but Lu Yubo was still maniacally yelling, wishing the whole world could hear his shout, completely ignoring the zombie group approaching the middle of the street!
“Don’t you see there are so many more inside the gas station? If we run now, what about Brother Su’s group over there? Idiot!”
Lu Yubo shook off Song Yijun’s hand that was pulling him, raised his arm high, and shouted toward the gas station: “Friends in the back, how are you? Can you hear me? Come quickly, there’s meat to eat!”
Song Yijun’s face turned pale from being scolded; he looked towards the west side of the street, noticing a few zombie figures as well!
“Pei Lan, let’s go, go, don’t mind this lunatic.”
Song Yijun stuttered, feeling his legs tremble slightly, pushing Pei Lan to leave.
Lu Yubo turned back and said, “If you dare leave, I’ll feed you to the zombies later! I haven’t left, so none of you are allowed to move!”
His vicious look instantly frightened Song Yijun and Pei Lan into a stupor, making them afraid to move.
A moment later, Pei Lan gathered her courage and tugged on Lu Yubo’s shirt corner.
“Brother Bo, we really have to go now, more zombies are coming from that side, let’s leave!”
There was no trace of color left on her face, and the encroaching zombie mob made her calves weak. If not for being with Song Yijun and Lu Yubo, she might have peed herself.
“Follow me, don’t panic!”
Lu Yubo gave an order, then he was seen riding his bike to meet the three zombies on the west side.
Oooohh.
The zombie mob coming out of the gas station let out a series of meaningless low growls, following Lu Yubo’s figure as he made a slight turn.
“Go!”
Just after the zombies turned, Lu Yubo stuffed his phone into the side pocket of his backpack, shouted, and then rode towards the pocket array.
Pei Lan and Song Yijun had been waiting for this moment for what felt like forever, using all their strength, the bike chains sparking, with their pedals spinning like whirlwind wheels, instantly overtaking the leisurely Lu Yubo.
“Cowards!”
Lu Yubo muttered a complaint, then turned to see the zombie mob, as he predicted, fall on the road when turning again, with over a dozen leading zombies toppled by the one’s behind, struggling to get up.
This fall, to some extent, slowed the entire horde’s pace.
