Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person - Chapter 57 - 54: Open the Door, Quick!

Chapter 57: Chapter 54: Open the Door, Quick!
After the insignificant victory, there was no time to rest, as two of the remaining three zombies attacked simultaneously.
“Ah!”
Two loud cries echoed; Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan mimicked the tactic, using backpacks on their chests as shields, fearless of scratches and bites, boldly charging at the zombies!
Unfortunately, their mass and impact were clearly insufficient. Facing adult zombies, they couldn’t achieve Zhang Su’s level of effect, only making the zombies stumble back a couple of steps with pained chests.
Luckily, the aggressive charge didn’t delay their escape speed at all. Even if it just caused a brief imbalance in the zombies, it was enough for the two to break through and escape from the seven or eight zombies chasing them relentlessly.
Zhang Su, running at the front, quickly encountered the last zombie. With no distance to charge, he swung the pack of bottled water in his hand vigorously, thinking the ten-plus pounds of water could knock down a zombie.
Thud.
Unfortunately, the packaging was too fragile. The zombie raised its hand, easily tearing the plastic with its sharp nails, sending bottles flying everywhere. The attacked zombie only slightly retreated, even less effective than a hit from Zheng Xinyu.
Zhang Su felt his hand lighten, momentarily stunned, but quickly reacted, swinging his axe with the other hand at the zombie, a reflexive action by now.
Thump.
The clash of metal and skull made one’s skin crawl, as the zombie was instantly smashed to the ground, howling in pain.
Without bothering to finish it off, Zhang Su dropped the shredded plastic pack, grabbed a bottle of water from the ground, and continued running.
This delay allowed Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan to catch up to Zhang Su, and the three ran towards Building Four’s front.
The scattered bottled water wasn’t wasted; a pursuing zombie slipped on one, causing it to trip, bringing down another three to four zombies in a crashing pile behind.
Momentarily shedding their pursuers, Zhang Su and his companions quickly raced around Building Four’s front, but the situation hadn’t improved at all.
In front of Building Four were more than a dozen zombies. Thankfully, not all were near the first entrance, but within moments, four to five came charging at Zhang Su’s group!
“Damn it, there are more here! Get in, quick, open the door!”
Zhang Su swung his axe at a female zombie who was first to reach, missing his aim in his haste and only hitting her neck. Dark red blood spurted out, failing to kill her in one blow, so he quickly kicked her down.
“It’s locked, Brother Su, the door’s locked!”
Zheng Xinyu scrambled up the stairs to the unit door, pulling it only to feel her heart sink…
“Use more force!”
Zhang Su shouted, kicking away another lunging zombie and using his backpack as a shield against another, before swinging his axe.
“Xinyu, let me do it!”
Zhong Xiaoshan yelled at Zheng Xinyu, who stepped aside, allowing her to swing a large wrench at the door lock.
Clang.
Sparks flew, bending the door lock immediately.
“Got it, huh?”
The two pulled the door frantically, making a series of clanging noises, yet it wouldn’t budge!
“Damn it! Brother Su, there’s someone inside holding the door! Let go, dammit!”
In her urgency and with dim lighting inside, Zheng Xinyu hadn’t noticed the guy behind the door clinging tightly to a rope, lying straight as a human doorstop, exerting all his strength!
“Shit!”
Hearing this, Zhang Su cursed, his blows more forceful, splitting one zombie’s head explosively, then kicking another aside before turning and rushing to the unit door.
But just then, two figures entered his view.
One tall and stout, the other tall and slim.
The sudden appearance of these two didn’t bring Zhang Su any relief, instead making his heart tense. Instinctively, he knew these were the two brothers going to the underground parking lot, and as they spoke, his assumption was confirmed.
“Xiaohai, there’s someone! Hey, quick, many zombies are coming, get in!”
The deep voice was filled with urgency, their foreheads wet with sweat.
Zhang Su could imagine how many zombies were on their tail without hesitation. He pointed towards the unobstructed passage behind him, saying, “Someone inside is holding the door, I’ll take care of it, you hold off the zombies!”
“Alright!”
Without a word, the man swung his improvised weapon at an oncoming zombie, commanding the tall, shaky man beside him, “Xiaohai, move, don’t just stand there!”
Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan needed no instructions from Zhang Su, immediately joining the fray to block the attacking zombies after handing the door situation to him.
Seeing the path cleared behind, Zhang Su raised his axe to shatter the unit door’s glass, but just then, a startled voice came from inside the door.
“What are you doing?”
Recognizing the voice as the police officer who had previously urged him to run, Zhang Su stopped his actions, urgently saying, “Open the door, quick!”
Qin Ya was even more shocked hearing someone outside, angrily shouting, “Why the hell are you holding the door shut? Can’t you hear someone needs to get in? Let go already!”
“I can’t let go, there are zombies outside! If I do, we’re all done for!”
The guy holding the door trembled, whether from fear or exertion was unclear.
Meanwhile, the zombies pursuing the Duan Brothers around the corner to Building Four, though still out of sight, their chilling cries made hearts race.
“You idiot!”
Zhang Su yanked the door with all his might, yet it didn’t budge; the man indoors didn’t release his grip. Just as Zhang Su prepared to break the window…
Bang.
A sound of impact came from inside the door.
Suddenly, without pulling, the door naturally opened a crack…
Roars…
The horde moved quickly, reaching the unit door’s steps. If not for the meter-high drop, they could step right up.
“Xinyu, Xiaoshan, inside, quickly! Everyone hurry inside…”
Zhang Su flung the door open, urging everyone to enter urgently. Once inside, along with the sturdy man, they repelled three nearby zombies, quickly slipping inside and closing the unit door.
Within the unit stood five or six people, men and women of all ages, each carrying a backpack, clearly also ready to flee.
But there was clearly no time to relax now!
Bang!
In less than a second, three or four zombies slammed against the unit door, their horrific bloody mouths gnawing the glass, leaving dry blood stains with each scrape, their withered hands pounding the iron door forcefully.
More zombies gathered at the door, crashing against it, the tremendous impact causing the doorframe and walls to tremble.
