Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person - Chapter 59 - 56: Can’t Carry This Team

Chapter 59: Chapter 56: Can’t Carry This Team
“Come, come, let me introduce myself, my name is Qin Ya.”
Qin Ya walked over to the group and introduced himself warmly. Then he looked at Zhang Su and said, “Your name is Zhang Su? I’ve finally got the chance to thank you in person. If you hadn’t distracted the zombies yesterday, I might not have survived. Thank you!”
“Hello, Officer Qin.”
Zhang Su finally had the time to take a good look at Qin Ya. He had a fairly common appearance, not particularly striking, but there was a constant hint of firmness in his features, coupled with the aura of a special forces officer, giving him a sharp presence.
“Ah…”
At this moment, a young man who had been standing quietly on the side exclaimed in surprise, “Big Brother, did you actually lure the zombies yesterday just to save Brother Qin?”
“I forgot to introduce you. This is Tian Fan, and this beautiful lady is Yu Nuo, both residents of unit one here,” Qin Ya introduced.
Tian Fan and Yu Nuo quickly greeted Zhang Su. They were relying on Qin Ya to lead them out, and since Qin Ya was saved by this person, they were exceedingly polite.
“And me, and me too.”
A little boy stretched out his hand, asking to be introduced.
Qin Ya smiled and patted Liu Yuxuan’s head, “Liu Xuanyu, um… the child of a close friend.”
Zhang Su nodded to Tian Fan and Yu Nuo, then also patted Liu Yuxuan on the head. He suspected that Qin Ya’s presence here was probably for this child, and if that was the case, things might not be good.
After the pleasantries, Zhang Su glanced at the assault rifle on Qin Ya’s shoulder and asked, “Officer Qin, were you part of the battle on Wenhua Road to the east that night?”
“Yes, ah… well, we can’t leave for a while, so why don’t we sit down and chat for a bit?”
Seeing everyone looking so panic-stricken, Qin Ya waved for everyone to sit down and then said to Tian Fan, “Xiaotian, go get some bottles of water to share around.”
“Okay!”
Tian Fan agreed readily and hurried to the kitchen.
Similar to Zhang Su and the others, Qin Ya’s group also had abundant water resources. Even though they had packed a lot, there was still plenty they couldn’t carry.
A dozen or so people sat down, except for the lone milkman; the others occupied the sofa.
“Captain Liu’s house has probably never been this lively…”
Qin Ya sighed with emotion, looking up at the ceiling, as if Captain Liu were watching from above.
“Uncle Qin, our house was lively once too. Last time, during the New Year, many uncles and aunties came, including Brother Da Zheng and Little Sister Xiaoxi.”
Liu Yuxuan’s words made the atmosphere even heavier.
During the New Year, a word symbolizing peace and happiness, it currently brought out the most poignant feelings in people’s hearts.
Qin Ya shook his head helplessly and patted Liu Yuxuan’s head, then turned to Zhang Su, “The zombies below were drawn away by the explosion. How did you bring so many over?”
Zhang Su shrugged, pointing at the Duan Brothers nearby, “These two know better.”
Duan Wuhu made a gesture of apology and sighed, “After the explosion, Xiaohai and I packed up to leave. We had planned to drive away, but who knew we’d alert those things when we went to the underground parking lot.”
“Damn it, we couldn’t even touch the car, almost lost our lives instead. What bad luck!”
Duan Wuhu shook his head dejectedly. If nothing had gone wrong, he and Duan Sihai should have already driven away from Sheng Qin Home.
Duan Sihai’s face was pale, only his lips regained a faint bit of color. Hearing his brother’s words, he quickly lowered his head. If he hadn’t dropped the weapon in panic, they wouldn’t be in this situation.
Zhang Su knew the mishap was likely Duan Sihai’s fault. His gaze lingered on him momentarily, noticing that he showed no intention of acknowledging the mistake. Zhang Su sneered internally but didn’t expose him, instead turning to Qin Ya.
“Officer Qin, I noticed earlier… you seemed like you were planning to leave too?”
While speaking, he pointed at the backpacks piled nearby.
Qin Ya nodded, not hiding anything, “I was planning to get in touch with you to plan together. Who would have thought that before I could think of a way to communicate, an explosion happened at your place? It just so happened that we were also running low on food during that time, with the zombies being attracted away, the pressure lessened. We intended to take the opportunity to escape and meet up, but we ended up like this. Haha.”
After saying that, he chuckled optimistically.
Upon hearing that the original plan was to join forces, Zhang Su inadvertently glanced at the people around Qin Ya, and couldn’t help but shake his head discreetly.
Three people, aside from the young fellow Tian Fan who had some spirit left, Yu Nuo appeared to be a weak and timid woman, while the little kid Liu Yuxuan was braver than Yu Nuo but still quite the burden.
It’s not that women and children are necessarily weak; with training, they can handle many situations, but the process is not easy.
Even a world’s top special forces soldier would find it difficult to manage this group!
Zhang Su smiled mildly, avoiding the subject, and asked, “Where are you planning to go?”
“Uncle Qin is taking me to find my mom and dad!”
Before Qin Ya could speak, Liu Yuxuan raised his hand like a student answering a question, confidently declaring.
Among everyone present, only the milkman who knew nothing and Liu Yuxuan still believed his parents were alive…
Qin Ya replaced his optimistic smile with a bitter one and shook his head slightly at Zhang Su, “Yes, first to find Xiaoyu’s parents, then we’re planning to head to Qing County, where the terrain is rugged and sparsely populated, it should be much better.”
“Officer Qin, we really do have the same thoughts; Xiaohai and I were also planning to head to Qing County!”
Duan Wuhu said excitedly, then frowned, “But… doesn’t the government have any action? Shouldn’t there be a plan in place beforehand?”
This was what Zhang Su and the others wanted to know, and they all looked at Qin Ya.
“To be honest, this disaster had no warning signs at all. From the information we received, it was a sudden outbreak, leaving no time to react. From the situation around us, you can feel it…”
“Faced with such a sudden situation, all contingency plans became ineffective. The surrounding military lost all communication with us; we’re facing a catastrophe beyond all imagination, essentially at a doomsday level.”
Qin Ya did not hide anything and shared what he knew.
The answer weighed heavily on everyone’s hearts.
The information channels of the special police unit were far superior to the average person. Even Qin Ya spoke like this, leaving no room for doubt, and eliminating any hope for rescue. Self-rescue was the only way!
“It erupted without any warning, infecting people everywhere. Our team, the government, the military, from what I’ve gathered, none were spared. It’s true indiscriminate infection, and I don’t understand why.”
Qin Ya sighed, recalling that morning a few days ago, still feeling a lingering fear.
