Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person - Chapter 69 - 64: Leaving the Novice Village

Chapter 69: Chapter 64: Leaving the Novice Village
“Stay close, okay?”
Zhang Su was observing the Haranda following behind from the rearview mirror, and noticed that there was actually another car trailing the Haranda. Judging by the shape of the headlights, he could tell it was an Audi Q5.
“Damn it, I’ve been played too!”
The Audi Q5 was rather clever. It didn’t react when the Aicha Sanwu left, certainly knowing there was another group behind that phone, and it turned out he was right!
No time to pay attention to the situation behind, some stray zombies were charging at the van from both sides. Zhang Su controlled the van, clumsily dodging them. He didn’t dare to recklessly hit the zombies lunging at the van, fearing the aging van couldn’t withstand it.
“Damn it, once I get the chance to drive an armored vehicle, I’ll crush you all!”
Avoiding the lunging zombies, Zhang Su thought resentfully to himself.
Soon, the van drove down the slope at the exit, but the scene on the slope made Zhang Su’s hair stand on end!
More than a dozen zombies were scattered roughly along the forty to fifty meter long slope. It wasn’t impossible to bypass them, just a bit more difficult than a driving test.
But zombies can move, and they run quite fast!
Upon hearing the engine noise approaching, some zombies near the bottom of the slope were already charging at the van, their fearless demeanor almost inspiring.
“Damn it, let’s go for it!”
With madness in his eyes, Zhang Su didn’t believe he would fall before dawn when hope was right in front of him. He slammed the pedal, almost flooring it into the engine bay.
Vroom, vroom!!
The engine roared defiantly, the tachometer needle hitting the red line at over six thousand revs, unleashing the van’s wildest power ever.
Bang, bang bang.
Pushing through the closest three zombies, Zhang Su slightly turned the wheel to squeeze through the gap. The speed boost gave him boundless possibilities, forcing a path through the horde!
“Charge, go, great!”
Zhang Su dared not ease off the pedal, the van swiftly shot out of the underground parking lot, leaping high at the last step, exuding the vibe of a rally race!
In just a second or two, the van thudded back to the ground, its landing a bit clumsy, swaying side to side, but ultimately steady without flipping!
“Ha, yahoo!”
As the street scene unfolded before him, Zhang Su couldn’t help but cheer. He had finally left the damn darkness behind.
He knew this was just the first step in a difficult journey, and immediately refocused after celebrating.
Quickly scanning ahead, the street on the south side of the community was better than he expected, not as devastated as the explosion-hit street to the west, nor had it experienced the blasting gunfight between special police and zombies on the street to the east.
Yet there were still over ten cars lying across the street, the opposite breakfast cart stained with blood, with half a corpse hanging in the display window, indicating someone had tried unsuccessfully to evade zombie pursuit.
The street was littered with debris, affecting driving somewhat, but as long as the path wasn’t blocked, even if the tires were gone, he’d drive on the rims forward!
Following the original plan, Zhang Su turned right onto the street, noticing the zombies ahead were denser than those behind, realizing the car that drove out of the community before likely went the opposite direction.
Though there were quite a few zombies, the wide road was much better than the parking garage, offering ample space to dodge, without hindrance.
As soon as Zhang Su turned onto the main road, he saw the Haranda emerging from the parking garage from the side, with a zombie flailing atop the windshield…
A bump shook the zombie off the hood, landing beside the road.
“It’s fine now…”
Just as Zhang Su breathed a sigh of relief, the black Audi Q5 followed closely behind the Haranda out of the parking lot!
“You better not follow me, damn, you son of a…”
Muttering to himself, Zhang Su saw the Q5 decisively following the Haranda to the right, its intent unmistakable.
“Not good!”
A distraction nearly made Zhang Su crash into a skewed vehicle ahead, prompting him to refocus on leading.
The street was no longer the familiar sight it once was, the scene from an apocalyptic movie becoming reality, though zombies weren’t densely packed, they weren’t few either, scattered at street corners, in greenery, walkways, and storefronts.
Rolling down the window a bit, a chilly wind carrying a strange scent blew into the cabin.
“The apocalypse, the real apocalypse…”
While trapped in the community, he hadn’t felt it so directly; only when immersed could he sense the apocalypse’s desolation.
Within moments, Zhang Su’s van turned onto Qingbin Road by the gas station.
Qingbin Road was a busier street in Qin City; its current conditions were far worse than the street by Sheng Qin Home, some vehicles blocking the road almost completely, various zombies roaming the accident scene, a hellish sight.
Just then, a clear voice rang out.
“Help, save me!”
Zhang Su glanced over, seeing a woman leaning out of a sunroof at the intersection lane, desperately waving her arm toward him.
“No way…”
Zhang Su unhesitatingly veered onto the non-motorized lane, riding the curb on the right, speeding forward without any intention to rescue.
He’s solely relying on speed to escape zombie pursuit; stopping to save someone would only lead to being surrounded!
“Zhong Xiaoshan better not have that Holy Mother syndrome!”
While Zhang Su pondered, the Haranda appeared in the rearview mirror, not slower than him at all, zombies couldn’t even touch a scrap of the car, quickly losing the trail.
From the van’s posture, he could tell Zhong Xiaoshan had decisively turned over, proving she wasn’t a pushover.
“Decisive enough, good!”
Zhang Su thought wrong; Zhong Xiaoshan and her group hadn’t noticed anyone calling for help at all. Zheng Xinyu’s pale little face had her eyes tightly shut, while Wang Guangjun in the backseat had a waxy complexion, his eyes similarly shut tight.
Zoom, zoom.
Right behind the van, Haranda and the Q5 imitated, tilting their car bodies, racing onward.
Zhong Xiaoshan completely let loose after leaving the community, neither yielding nor giving way. She directly charged at zombies rushing towards her. Although it might inflict some damage on the car, it avoided irreversible accidents like flipping.
She held a death stare at the van’s backside, her eyes bloodshot from exertion, oblivious to the calls for help or even a collapsing building next to her!
The Audi Q5 driver’s skill was equally seasoned, appearing ready to overtake the Haranda any time.
The three cars raced through zombie-infested streets, the damaged vehicles and greenery forming barriers, preventing zombies from chasing far before returning to a bewildered state.
Soon, Zhang Su’s gaze narrowed ahead, the petrol station’s sign was coming into view!
