Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person - Chapter 84 - 79: Fleeing for Their Lives

Chapter 84: Chapter 79: Fleeing for Their Lives
“The car, our car!”
Zheng Xinyu watched the zombies approach the car and instinctively wanted to rush out to save the supplies.
“Get back!” Zhang Su grabbed Zheng Xinyu’s backpack, shocked, “What are you doing? You can’t get through, are you crazy?”
“It’s over!” Xiaoshan’s face turned pale, her voice trembling, “The place we finally cleared, it’s over!”
In just a minute or two, more than fifty zombies had gathered at the gas station’s entrance and the street outside, and there were signs of increasing numbers.
Zhang Su looked at the zombies, his face extremely grim. Fortunately, the fire from the car slightly hindered the zombies’ steps; otherwise, more zombies would have wandered inside the gas station!
This was their temporary safe zone. They planned to leave after staying one night, but now it seemed they had to leave immediately, let alone staying one night!
“You all have one minute to pack up, then we’re leaving!”
At Zhang Su’s command, everyone hastened to put on their bags, but soon they became puzzled.
“Brother Su, should we fight our way out?”
Lu Yubo made a shocking suggestion, waving the food sampler in his hand, full of confidence!
Zhang Su was taken aback, seeing more and more zombies gathering—there were almost seventy or eighty of them at a glance—how could they fight?
If he had an RPG or a Gatling gun with unlimited bullets, he might give it a try…
“No, too many!”
Zhang Su shook his head decisively.
His combat power wasn’t low, but he wouldn’t take such risks recklessly, especially when a retreat was clearly available. Why go all out?
Lu Yubo was still unwilling to give up, pointing at the H6, “Brother Su, the car, we can’t just abandon it! I’ll rush out and draw the zombies away; you guys go start the car?”
Zhang Su looked reluctantly at the van, which had a lot of supplies, while the Haranda had newly collected supplies and some protective gear. Unfortunately, the nearest zombies had already reached the spot where Ma Xuechuo’s body lay, just two or three meters from the vehicles!
“Bozai, don’t take the risk! We’ll find another chance to get the car later!”
If they gambled now, even the basic retreating depth wouldn’t be available. Unless it was a certain death situation, there was no need to act impulsively.
“Darn it!”
Lu Yubo sighed in frustration, glaring angrily at the zombies outside.
“The situation outside the wall must be better than inside; we’ll climb over from above the restroom!”
After Zhang Su finished speaking, he headed towards the staff office, advising those behind him, “Be quiet, make no sound, Technician Tan, remember, don’t shout no matter what happens!”
“Okay!”
Tan Huajun hugged the caliper, nodding firmly. Having survived nearly a week alone at the gas station, her psychological resilience was up to the test.
Without a word, everyone followed Zhang Su out through the back door. There were still many supplies in the convenience store. Originally, with Lu Yubo’s H6, they could take more things, but now there was no such opportunity!
“Once you jump down, don’t fall in place; you must roll with the momentum, any way you can, to mitigate the impact of the fall!”
During the climb, Zhang Su taught some landing techniques to the others.
The zombies retained partial sight, and a group of them about ten meters from the restroom discovered Zhang Su and his team, chasing them to the restroom below.
Fortunately, there were many places around the restroom to climb. By the time the zombies arrived, Zhang Su and the others were already on the roof, looking back at the zombies’ clutches below, their white teeth like meat grinders.
In the distance, nearly a hundred zombies strolled leisurely down the street, a terrifying scene that chilled the heart. The man who ran from the car was almost devoured, leaving only creepy white bones on the ground, ignored by the zombies.
“Luckily, I didn’t leave the backpack in the car, or I’d be biting the dust!”
Zhang Su remarked.
“Brother Su is awesome…”
Lu Yubo gave a thumbs up continuously, with bags hanging on his front and back; one was his, and the other belonged to Qiu Shuo. If not for Zhang Su’s repeated reminders, he would have left his backpack in the car earlier.
“The alley shouldn’t be too problematic; quick, throw the bags over!”
Zhang Su took off his backpack, climbed the wall, and looked outside. The alley between the gas station and the residential area looked fine, with zombies only wandering in the depths and at the entrance.
Whoosh, whoosh.
In no time, several people threw their bags into the alley.
“Hey!”
Zheng Xinyu tossed a baseball bat to the other side, climbing over the wall first. Seeing it was only three or four meters down, she recalled Zhang Su’s taught techniques and jumped without hesitation.
Thud.
“Oof!”
The solid landing sound paired with a dull groan, but a sturdily built Zheng Xinyu brushed the dust off her pants and stood up completely unscathed.
Next was Zhong Xiaoshan, with better physical fitness than Zheng Xinyu. She had participated in hiking activities before and was better experienced in such scenarios. She did roll half a circle upon landing; though covered in dirt, she seemed more relaxed!
Lu Yubo naturally jumped down the wall with ease.
“Brother Su, it’s too high, too high, I’m scared I’ll break my leg.”
Sitting astride the wall, Tan Huajun felt dizzy at the drop below.
“Are you kidding me, Technician Tan? You’re afraid of heights at just three or four meters?”
Strictly speaking, the wall height was similar to that of a standard basketball hoop. Ordinarily, nobody would jump around for fun, but in life-and-death situations, there’s not much choice!
Zhang Su pointed to the gas station yard, “Old Tan, either go feed the zombies or jump down. You’re all meat; what are you afraid of?”
With that, Zhang Su jumped down the wall first, landing easily.
“Brother Su, zombies are coming from over there!”
Just as Zhang Su touched down, Lu Yubo pointed to the alley’s depths, about twenty or thirty meters away. Four zombies sensed the commotion and ambled toward them.
“Hurry down, I’ll catch you!”
Zhang Su waved to Tan Huajun on the wall.
“Damn it, here goes nothing!”
Tan Huajun glanced towards the gas station, the fear of zombies clearly outweighing the fear of jumping. Taking a deep breath, she tilted and dropped off the wall with her eyes shut.
“Damn it, Tan Technician, what the hell!”
Zhang Su couldn’t help but curse softly.
Tan Huajun’s idea was to minimize the fall point impact, naively assuming Zhang Su would catch her with both arms…
Quick to react, Zhang Su pushed Tan Huajun, who was descending horizontally, towards the wall, drastically reducing the downward force and turning it horizontal.
Thud…
Tan Huajun felt her back hit the wall, causing her internal organs to shake, nausea rising. Before she could vomit, she landed on her side, her arm pressing against her chest, bringing another wave of suffocation.
“Don’t you know your weight? Are you trying to commit suicide by falling like that?”
Zhang Su looked at the dazed Tan Huajun on the ground, speechless.
