Chapter 95: Chapter 86: Alternative Emergency Rations
“Hey! Not to say you guys are sick or anything…”
Zheng Xinyu gave Zhang Su and Lu Yubo a look like she was staring at lunatics, as the two of them were discussing how to roast an entire dog.
Tan Huajun, a seasoned foodie, chuckled awkwardly, swallowed a mouthful of saliva, and said, “In principle, I don’t agree with barbecuing dogs, but roasted meat smells really good.”
“I’m not taking it anymore…”
Zheng Xinyu regretted her decision, and walked briskly to the balcony to put the Corgi back in its cage.
“Take it, take it, why do you keep changing your mind? Just take it, it’s fine.” Zhang Su encouraged, not realizing he was also contradicting himself.
Zheng Xinyu turned to hug Zhang Su, not letting him open the cage, and firmly said, “No, no, there are so many things that can be eaten, it’s too heavy, not appropriate!”
“Come on, bring it along, I’ll carry it, okay? You won’t have to strain yourself.”
Zhang Su thought carrying twenty pounds of meat wasn’t heavy.
Zhong Xiaoshan saw the stalemate and quickly said, “Maybe we should bring it, the dog is in a strange situation now. If it can wake up, we can consider releasing it or keeping it, if…it dies, then it can be food.”
The compromise received unanimous approval from everyone.
“I’ll carry it! No need to bother you guys…”
Zheng Xinyu was very uneasy about handing the dog over to Zhang Su or Lu Yubo, believing these two might choke the dog when no one was looking. She could almost see the scene of it being roasted over a campfire.
“Well, you’re choosing to tire yourself out, but when it’s time to eat, you’ll get an extra dog leg as compensation.”
Zhang Su said very sincerely.
“You’re so annoying, it won’t die!”
Zheng Xinyu glared angrily at Zhang Su, who, unfortunately, remained indifferent with a laugh.
Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep.
Amidst the laughter, the pre-set time arrived. However, due to the argument, some time had been wasted and nobody had finished their tasks.
“Hurry up and pack, I’m going to the bathroom.”
After saying this, Zhang Su headed towards the toilet.
“Strange, didn’t Brother Su just go to the bathroom? Is he peeing frequently?” Lu Yubo muttered in confusion while watching Zhang Su’s back.
He had no idea of Zhang Su’s real intent.
Once Zhang Su turned a corner out of sight, subtitles suddenly popped up in his mind.
[Use coercion and temptation to recruit the female employee at the gas station within five days. Difficulty: B, Completed, Time taken: 24:13:44]
“Damn, it’s true!”
Zhang Su knew he guessed right. The challenge hadn’t been declared successful before because less than a day was spent, falling within the timeframe of option A, which seemed a bit rigid, but he couldn’t do anything about it.
It’s like playing online games; the draw starts at eight in the evening, not a minute or second early.
[Reward: Loyalty Brand*3]
“Eh?”
Zhang Su looked curiously at three dazzling symbols floating in his mind, which appeared almost palm-sized, with complex maze-like lines radiating a mysterious power.
“Loyalty Brand…from the name, it should be something to increase loyalty, pretty nice!”
Zhang Su was quickly attracted by the straightforward name; one of the barriers to recruiting others into the team was loyalty!
In the post-apocalyptic world, there’s no telling when teammates beside you might stab you. Regretting at that point is too late.
Sometimes encountering exceptional survivors or talented individuals with special skills, this would be a very useful tool.
“I suppose it’s used by directly applying it to the target, but how effective is it? Better not ask, see for yourself when there’s a chance!”
Zhang Su realized asking would yield no outcome, just like the previous [Insight Label]; only by trying himself. Unlike [Insight Label]’s twenty uses, these mere three chances are exceptionally valuable, only to be used when really needed.
After pondering for a while in the bathroom, Zhang Su emerged to witness an amusing scene.
Zheng Xinyu placed thick clothing at the bottom of a backpack, then put the Corgi inside, with only its head sticking out for breathing. From afar, she seemed like a mutated two-headed monster.
“Haha, Xinyu, does it feel especially heavy, so heavy that you’d wish you could roast and eat it right now?”
Zhang Su couldn’t resist teasing, earning himself a glare instead.
Ten minutes later than planned, everyone walked out of the apartment building, instantly collecting their smiles, zombies appearing not far away, happiness ceasing, as life and death approached without mercy!
“Turn the corner past a small garden and it’s the gate!”
A few people crouched behind a row of trash cans as Tan Huajun gave directions.
“Brother Su, I think we could check over the wall. What if those helmet zombies have gone?” Lu Yubo suggested.
“Even if those zombies with gear have wandered off, the alley entrance is still blocked by zombies; better to exit through the main gate and walk along the main road! Let’s take out those three zombies first, pause and rest at the turn, and observe the garden situation before moving!”
Zhang Su briefly planned, then continued, “I’ll handle the one in black clothes, Bozai, you take down the jeans zombie, and the remaining blue jumpsuit is for you three!”
Carefully assigning tasks made execution smooth, proving highly efficient, with almost no risk, the five reached the corner.
Zhang Su peeked towards the garden in front of the gate; the sudden temperature drop made once lush trees gradually wither, golden leaves adorning the pavilion, small shrubberies still bravely retaining a touch of green. If not for the dark brown blood stains on the ground and wandering zombies, it would be a serene autumn scene.
