Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person - Chapter 99 - 88: Another Theory

Chapter 99: Chapter 88: Another Theory
“It’s your turn to practice!”
Zhang Su stepped back, giving space to others.
Zheng Xinyu moved up from the side, seeing the zombie lunging with its tongue out. She felt no fear, only caution, as she swung her baseball bat, landing a solid blow on the fastest one.
The two zombies following closely behind were intercepted by Lu Yubo and two other female members.
The powerful impact of the bat forced the zombie back two steps. Before it could regain its footing, another swing hit its face, followed by a kick to the chest and abdomen. The consecutive strikes completely unbalanced the zombie, making it fall.
Zheng Xinyu’s goal was just that. Killing a standing zombie was difficult, but once it was on the ground, it was easier. The baseball bat continued to strike, and the high-strength metal quickly crushed the zombie’s skull.
Meanwhile, Tan Huajun used her calipers to pierce through a zombie’s eye socket, nailing it dead on the spot. Her power surprised even herself; a good weapon truly made her more formidable.
Lu Yubo acted even faster, almost taking down a zombie the moment they engaged, carefully standing guard nearby.
Zhang Su, following behind, wasn’t idle. He rifled through a zombie’s pockets, finding a phone and cigarettes, stuffing them into his backpack. However, as he continued searching the body, an unexpected change occurred.
“Watch out!”
Zhong Xiaoshan felt something dart through the low shrubs, aiming for Zhang Su as he bent down for gear.
Eek!
In a flash, a child zombie less than a meter tall leapt from the bushes, emitting a strange sound as it shot toward Zhang Su.
Zhang Su’s hearing was excellent, but the noise of battle was overwhelming, leaving his brain unable to process the details. He completely ignored the commotion in the bushes, and when he finally saw the child zombie lunging at him, it was less than two meters away!
“Damn you!”
Lu Yubo reacted swiftly, seeing the child zombie just a second after Zhong Xiaoshan. Being closest to Zhang Su, he stepped forward and kicked at the child zombie.
Eek ee ah!
Unexpectedly, the child zombie was extremely agile, not the stiff creature other adult zombies were. It twisted mid-air, clawing ferociously at the incoming leg.
Unfortunately, its movements were agile, but its mind was simple. It didn’t consider the possibility of another enemy from the side.
Zhang Su’s response was naturally the fastest. He hadn’t noticed before, but once he did, he instinctively swung an axe!
Thud, whoosh!
Howling.
The child zombie’s head was struck heavily, toppling it to the side. However, its fingers still managed to scratch Lu Yubo’s leg, accompanied by a tearing sound.
“Die!”
Lu Yubo efficiently drove a food sampler into the fallen child zombie’s head. The bright steel tube pierced through the skull, finally silencing the twitching little zombie.
“Brother Su, no, I’m fine, really!”
Lu Yubo withdrew his weapon, turning to find Zhang Su drawing a machete, eyes fixed on his leg.
The three women gathered around, Zheng Xinyu and Tan Huajun facing outward defensively, while Zhong Xiaoshan asked, “Are you guys okay?”
“I’m fine. Bozai got scratched!”
Zhang Su said with a serious expression.
“Brother Su, look, my long johns aren’t even torn. I’m okay. Please don’t point that military knife at me. It’s terrifying.”
Lu Yubo was visibly horrifying, knowing what Zhang Su intended—to cut his leg to save him. It made sense, but if he lost a leg without being injured, that would be too unfair.
“Are you sure there’s no skin break?”
Zhang Su crouched nervously, seeing that Lu Yubo’s outer pants were merely slashed in three places, and he felt relieved.
“Hopping on one leg is better than dying. You were reliable at a crucial time, thanks!”
Zhang Su patted Lu Yubo’s shoulder, acknowledging the fact that although he hadn’t noticed the zombie in the bushes, Lu Yubo’s prompt action had made a lasting impression.
“Damn, Brother Su, saying that… If I hadn’t been with you, I might not have survived yesterday. We’re a team, of course we cover each other. Hey, you wouldn’t mind me claiming that kill, would you?”
Lu Yubo was pleasantly flattered by Zhang Su’s gratitude.
“Yes, we’re a team, we’re teammates!”
Zhang Su once again felt the importance of teamwork; no matter how strong his individual abilities, they were finite.
Soon, the five of them collected themselves and moved forward again, killing another three zombies before finally meeting up with the eight people across.
In the garden, the cold air mingled with the hot breath of thirteen people, white mist puffing from their mouths, the atmosphere oddly quiet.
A closer look revealed that the people around Zhang Xin had lost their previous fierceness. Even the tallest, sturdiest man in the knit cap hesitated to meet the eyes of Zhang Su and Lu Yubo. Only the sleazy guy dared to sneak glances at Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan.
Zhang Xin looked past Zhang Su’s group at the zombies’ bodies lying scattered beyond them, feeling both pleased and apprehensive.
He was pleased that clearing the garden of zombies solved a major problem for the community, yet feared what might have happened had a conflict arisen earlier…
While his group engaged the zombies, he couldn’t help but notice the efficiency and coordination of Zhang Su’s group, leading him to suspect they might be soldiers in disguise.
Their decisive, ruthless actions were like carving through wooden stakes. Did these people feel no fear?
