Aspiring to the Immortal Path - Chapter 1257: Father and Son (2)

No plans to stop your revenge on the Basking Moon Sect!
No plans to stop it!!
No plans!!!
Wang Yao’s mind was buzzing with Tang Jie’s words, as if he had been struck by a clap of thunder.
If he didn’t plan to stop it, then why did I come out with such force?
If he didn’t plan to stop it, then what was the point in all the resolve it took me to attack my adoptive father?
In the many times he had dreamed about this, the dreams had all ultimately devolved into him arguing with Tang Jie about the Basking Moon Sect and fighting.
It was precisely because of those countless imagined scenarios that Wang Yao felt like a meeting with Tang Jie wouldn’t end peacefully and gradually sought to distance himself from his father.
But now, Tang Jie was telling him that he wasn’t going to try and stop him, which left him dumbfounded.
The moment the foundation for his hostility ceased to exist, his affection for his father came roaring back.
As Wang Yao gazed at Tang Jie, the scenes from their time together began to reemerge.
Only now did he recall how Tang Jie used to roll around with him while he was a cub, how he used to bounce around in his lap. At night, he would cuddle together with Yiyi, wrapped around Tang Jie’s neck such that Tang Jie didn’t even dare to roll over. He would even occasionally wet the bed, forcing Tang Jie to learn a cleaning spell, which ended up delaying his cultivation for several days. And one time, he had completely gnawed up Tang Jie’s bedding, making Tang Jie so angry that he had lifted him up by the nape to give him a spanking. But thanks to those innocent eyes of his, Tang Jie had been forced to give up…
The scenes from the past emerged one by one.
Wang Yao, who had seemed so hardhearted and seemingly forgotten all the affection they shared, now looked at Tang Jie’s compassionate eyes and cried out:
“Father!”
Tang Jie, his face brimming with kindness, shouted back, “Bao’er!”
All the tension disappeared, enmity replaced by love between father and son.
Nine Disaster couldn’t let this continue, and he shouted, “Wang Yao, don’t fall for the seduction of this villain! Do you really believe that the Domain Lord of the Rosecloud Domain would really ignore the plight of the Basking Moon Sect?”
“Shut it, Nine Disaster! I know what I’m doing!” Wang Yao turned and glared at Nine Disaster. “If my adoptive father said that he won’t stop my revenge, I have no reason to not believe him. If he is tricking me, I’ll fight him. I don’t need you to tell me what I ought to do and not to do. As for the Rosecloud Domain… my brothers are enough!”
With a wave of his hand, a giant spatial fissure appeared over the Gigantes Domain.
A bronze Demon Gate appeared in the fissure, covered in mysterious carvings. It was identical to the one Libido had used to attack the Rosecloud Domain, simply many times larger and more imposing.
The two doors slowly opened, and countless demons surged out from it, most of them beast-type fiend demons. There were leopards, wolves, goats, chickens, dogs, monkeys, and so on, animals both common and rare. But even more noteworthy was that there were also fiend devils from High Antiquity among them. Unleashing earth-shaking roars, they unleashed a black tide against the Gigantes Domain.
All the demons cheered at this sight.
In contrast, the human–Gigantes army paled.
The Gigantes King sighed, “My race has met its end.”
Xu Miaoran waved an arm and ordered, “Retreat! All forces, retreat to Army Anchor City and focus on defense!”
Although the Supreme Unity Celestial Water Formation had broken, the walls, talisman formations, cannons, and other supporting structures were still present and could be relied upon, though they would not be as formidable as before.
Everyone, including the True Immortals, retreated to Army Anchor City, and in the distance, the fiend demon army of Nox Alba approached like a black flood.
High in the heavens, Tang Jie, Wang Yao, and Nine Disaster silently observed.
With a soft sigh, Tang Jie said, “Perhaps this is Fate.”
And then he truly ignored it all, saying to Wang Yao, “Bao’er, come here. Now that father and son have finally come together, we need to have a good chat. Tell me what happened after you entered the Primordial Fog Domain.”
“Mm!” Wang Yao strode over.
“Careful of any tricks!” Nine Disaster shouted.
Wang Yao glanced at Nine Disaster and scoffed, “Old baldy, you’re looking down on my adoptive father too much. My adoptive father would never treat me that way, and even if he did try a sneak attack, I would take it. It was thanks to him that I was able to escape the sea of suffering, and I am willing to use such a chance to repay his kindness.”
Nine Disaster immediately said, “But your father passed on to him the Moonhowl Slayer Divine Connection, and you returned the Space Crystal to him. This can be considered repayment.”
“Mm, this can be considered a repayment for the kindness. But what of the affection?” Wang Yao replied.
Nine Disaster fell silent.
Some things could be returned, but there were other things that could never be repaid.
If Tang Jie had tried to stop his revenge, then all affection would have been wiped away. But the moment he said that he wasn’t going to try and stop him, the lost affection returned.
Still, Nine Disaster shook his head. “I would never believe that Tang Jie would simply ignore the Rosecloud Domain’s plight. It’s just that because the both of us are here, he has no choice but to ignore it.”
Nine Disaster finally understood.
Since two Gold Immortals were here to stop Tang Jie, Tang Jie actually had no chance of saving the Rosecloud Domain.
In such a circumstance, it meant nothing that Tang Jie said he wasn’t going to save it.
Wang Yao chuckled. “I know that what you say is true, but you don’t understand my father. You really think that if my father wanted to go to its rescue, he would really have no solution? Back then, when he was still weak and lowly, he managed to inflict loss after loss on Godhead Palace. How could the two of us so easily restrain him? And even if he really couldn’t stop it, he wouldn’t give up without putting up the slightest effort. He has never given up, even if he knows something is impossible.”
Tang Jie chuckled. “As expected, you understand me.”
“Perhaps this is exactly the scheme he’s devised for the impossible situation he’s in!” Nine Disaster protested.
Yes, who could say that Tang Jie’s choice wasn’t a part of his scheme?
Perhaps he wanted to stir up Wang Yao’s old affections and then try and save Rosecloud.
Wang Yao smiled. “That’s possible, but I’m willing to take that chance.”
There were some traps that one was willing to jump into.
Wang Yao’s greatest fear was that Tang Jie would try to stop his revenge, and his greatest wish was that Tang Jie wouldn’t try to stop him.
Even if this was Tang Jie’s ploy to hold him down, even if Tang Jie wasn’t being sincere, he was willing to bite the bait.
If Tang Jie had some other plan or arrangement, then he would wait until Tang Jie unveiled that scheme before tearing off the mask of courtesy and going to war.
This was his father!
So long as there was the slightest chance, he would try and retain that affection.
Nine Disaster didn’t understand this, so he couldn’t persuade Wang Yao.
Wang Yao said, “I’m chatting with my father now. Nine Disaster, don’t disturb us.”
He went up to Tang Jie and began to really chat with Tang Jie, telling him what had happened to him after he had entered the Primordial Fog Domain, how he had struggled to survive, all the efforts he had taken to find Myriad Fiend Peak within Nox Alba and finally obtain the legacy of his ancestor, and how he had finally subjugated all the fiend demons.
He kept talking and talking, and Tang Jie earnestly listened with a smile, as if the matters down below had nothing to do with him.
Meanwhile, in the Gigantes Domain, the war between humans and demons was intensifying.
The entry of countless fiend demons had the humans clearly faltering.
They could hold on for now, but as time passed and their energy ran dry, the humans and Gigantes would ultimately be defeated.
Yet Tang Jie remained indifferent. Besides listening to Wang Yao’s own stories, he also told Wang Yao what he had been through after the Beast Garden. Wang Yao had always been watching the Rosecloud Domain, and he had mastery over the Dao of Space, making him one of the few that could travel between the human and demon planes without the thinning of the spatial barrier, so he knew a lot about the Rosecloud Domain, and he already knew much without Tang Jie needing to tell him.
The two of them seemed to ignore Nine Disaster as if he didn’t exist, which left him in an awkward spot.
Nine Disaster’s eyes gleamed as he thought, I don’t believe that Tang Jie can watch the Rosecloud Domain be destroyed with such composure. Since you insist on pretending, I’ll force you to show your true self.
“This old monk congratulates the two of you. Father and son can converse as you please, but forgive this old monk for not accompanying you. I must return to the Gigantes Domain and kill off all those rebels first.”
He turned to head back to the Gigantes Domain.
The Nine Disaster Fiend Monk wouldn’t be simply the straw that broke the camel’s back, but the boulder.
If Tang Jie really had no plans on saving the Rosecloud Domain, he could simply watch Nine Disaster go. Nine Disaster was using this move to force Tang Jie’s hand.
As expected, Tang Jie smiled and said, “Please hold on a moment.”
Nine Disaster laughed. “Tang Jie, so you couldn’t help yourself, eh? If you really don’t plan to…”
Before he could finish, Tang Jie said, “Firstly, you’re not Bao’er. Just because I find it hard to choose between Bao’er and the Rosecloud Domain doesn’t mean I find it hard to choose between the Rosecloud Domain and you. What’s so surprising about me stopping you from attacking the humans?”
Nine Disaster froze, not knowing how to reply. He could only indignantly reply, “You and your clever tongue!”
Tang Jie went on, “Secondly, I’m not actually stopping you from going down below. I just want you to wait for a little longer. Once I finish my chat with Bao’er, I have a few questions to ask you. So long as you can answer my questions, I won’t stop you from going to the Gigantes Domain.”
“What?”
The Nine Disaster Fiend Monk was taken aback, and then he realized that Tang Jie’s words weren’t meant for him, but for Wang Yao.
The moment Tang Jie stopped Nine Disaster from going down, Wang Yao had very slightly frowned.
But when Tang Jie gave his reasons, his complexion immediately improved.
These two reasons had been prepared for Wang Yao from the start. The second reason was to excuse Tang Jie for keeping Nine Disaster, and the first reason was to give Tang Jie an excuse to attack if Nine Disaster refused.
And perhaps… it wouldn’t just be Tang Jie.
Nine Disaster scowled. “And if this old monk refuses?”
Tang Jie frowned. “I just want to ask you a few questions. Nine Disaster, do you even refuse a small request like that?”
Nine Disaster inwardly groaned as Wang Yao chimed in, “Nine Disaster, it’s only a little longer, so why such a rush? Or perhaps you don’t have any faith in our brothers?”
Nine Disaster snorted, “If this old monk refuses, do you plan to join your father against me?”
Wang Yao smiled. “We’re allies, so I would never attack you. But on the other hand, because we’re allies, you should stay. You don’t want to leave me alone with my adoptive father, right? What if he suddenly attacks me the moment you leave? In a one-on-one, I might not be his match.”
Nine Disaster laughed. “So you do suspect him?”
“I’m not a fool, so I naturally won’t believe everything my adoptive father says. But so long as he doesn’t do anything that disfavors me, I will respect him as my father and refuse to do anything to him. If you stay here, you can serve as a restraining force. Whether my father is scared of you or has sincerely given up on stopping me isn’t important. What’s important is that he hasn’t attacked me and still regards me as his son, which is fine with me. In any case, my goal will be achieved without ruining my relationship with my father, which is much better than ruining it to reach my goal, no?”
Nine Disaster could only sigh.
As expected, Wang Yao wasn’t a complete fool. He also didn’t completely trust Tang Jie.
But his starting point was different from Nine Disaster’s. So long as Tang Jie didn’t reveal ulterior motives, Wang Yao was willing to be tricked.
Nine Disaster could do nothing about that.
Turning to Tang Jie, Nine Disaster coldly smiled. “Fine, fine, then this old monk will see what you have up your sleeve.”
He sat back down on his lotus platform.
