Chapter 58: Chapter 58: No Hitting on Your Coworkers
September 9, Monday.
Weather: Clear.
The leisurely days always pass by without notice, and before you realize it, three days have gone by since the successful construction of the treehouse.
During these three days, Chen Yuan hasn’t been idle. He’s either been spending his days training Spark and Cola in skills and physical exercise, or he’s been searching around Xuanhe Village for new pet beasts and spirit plants.
Fortunately, efforts eventually bear fruit: Chen Yuan’s Source Point count is back in the double digits, and both Spark and Cola have improved in strength.
Nowadays, Spark has reached level seven, with both the proficiency of [Flame Energy Assault] and [Flame Prison] elevated to proficient level, giving a notably significant increase in overall combat power.
Since Cola can’t stay in the Beast Taming Space, its level remains at five, though the proficiency of [Wind Stepping] is now at a proficient level, albeit [Wind Surge] is still slightly lacking.
“Keep up, don’t give up.”
Early in the morning, accompanied by loud cheers, Chen Yuan takes the two little ones for a run around the countryside.
“Awoo awoo.”
Cola is always full of energy, sometimes rushing ahead to chase butterflies, sometimes bouncing around Chen Yuan, and sometimes falling back beside the Electric Flying Cat, moving leisurely.
The lazy sunshine casually spreads over them, as Chen Yuan maintains a smooth breathing rhythm, his strides not too fast yet remarkably steady.
“Dian Dian…”
The Electric Flying Cat runs at the back, accompanied by rapid and disordered breathing, gradually slowing down until it stops altogether.
It then gazes at the backs of Chen Yuan and Cola, giving up as it flops four legs up and sprawls on the ground.
The Electric Flying Cat stares fixedly at the sun hanging in the east, watching the clouds drifting by. Suddenly, an orange-yellow silhouette slices through layers of airwaves, soaring beneath the sky.
“Dian Dian.”
The Electric Flying Cat lying on the ground casts an extremely envious gaze.
Why doesn’t Big Sister have to run!
Clearly, I can fly too!
Chen Yuan turns back to look at the sprawled Electric Flying Cat and laughs: “If you were as strong as it, you could do whatever you want.”
The Electric Flying Cat pouts, turning its head away without saying anything.
“Caw.”
Just then, Iron Head suddenly changes its usual steady demeanor, striding toward Chen Yuan.
Chen Yuan’s eyes light up: “Did it succeed?”
“Caw!” Iron Head nods vigorously.
“Excellent, let’s get ready for advancement.” Chen Yuan feels cheerful about this news.
As early as two days ago, the resources needed for Iron Head’s advancement had arrived, leaving only the skill [Steel Blade] not yet at the proficient level.
Just right, back then while building the wooden house, Chen Yuan discovered that Iron Head’s skill of cutting trees could increase proficiency, so he had it cut down all the trees on the farm blocking paths as practice, and save Source Points in the process.
Unexpectedly, early today morning, Iron Head’s [Steel Blade] broke through to the proficient level.
Thinking of this, Chen Yuan glared at Cola.
Take a look at others!
Hard-working, diligent, does a lot for little pay, never complains, and saves Source Points for me.
Where could you find such a good worker?
“Awoo…”
Cola looked over with a pitiful gaze.
Heading into the main hall,
Upon hearing the news that Iron Head is about to advance, Run Run Duck who was sunbathing hurried over, gathering around Iron Head with the little buddies.
“Quack quack.”
You’ve gotta do your best, duck.
“Caw.”
Iron Head held two Golden Iron Stones in its grasp, its face solemn as it nodded vigorously.
“Begin,” Chen Yuan said.
With an expressionless face, Iron Head tossed the two Golden Iron Stones into its mouth, chewing with force. The sharp teeth and hard Golden Iron Stones collided, making a “clack clack clack” sound.
Seeing Iron Head chew stone like eating an apple, the little ones all cast admiring glances, while the Electric Flying Cat was utterly stunned.
Watching Iron Head gnash the Golden Iron Stones, swallowing them down, Chen Yuan shuddered, inexplicably feeling a pang of stomach pain.
He had previously asked several people about using Golden Iron Stones, and all the answers were the same—eat them.
This method of consumption is simple and crude; probably only Steel-type pet beasts can manage it.
But it seems rational for Steel-type pet beasts to eat stones; eating vegetables and living underground seems less logical.
Swallowing the Golden Iron Stones, Iron Head distinctly felt something magical occur in its stomach, so it sat down and closed its eyes.
This advancement ceremony lasted nearly an hour; Cola and Run Run Duck backs against each other were already sound asleep.
After the advancement, Iron Head’s size hadn’t changed a bit but the blades extended from its front and top became sharper, gleaming with a more intense chill. Additionally, its originally dark gray body now glowed with a silver light.
Chen Yuan summoned Iron Head’s data panel:
[Race: Steel-headed Ground Rat (collected)]
Attribute: Steel
Level: 4 (Tier One)
Favorability: 73
Skills: Steel Blade (Proficient 1.1/5) + Iron Arm (Novice 1.9/3) +
Quality: Elite
Promotion to Commander Conditions: Unlockable]
Chen Yuan’s face lit up with a smile: “The goal of all members reaching elite quality is achieved!”
“Next goal, everyone to Commander level!”
It’s strange to say; the original idea of Chen Yuan staying in the countryside was to live out his life leisurely, but since the Spiritual Energy Revival, there’s been more to do than before; he’s busy all day.
“Never mind, it’s quite enjoyable in its own way.” Chen Yuan chuckled helplessly.
Just then,
Cola’s nose twitched as it seemed to catch a scent and turned, running toward the chicken coop.
“Awoo awoo awoo.”
Moments later,
Cola’s calls continued echoing as Chen Yuan and the little ones rushed over.
As soon as he reached the chicken coop, Chen Yuan broke into a joyful smile: “Today is truly a double delight.”
Bean Chicken remained perched in the nest, casting a wary gaze at the rapidly approaching little ones, with a few small figures hiding behind its pale yellow round body.
“Cluck cluck?”
“Cluck?”
One by one, little heads emerged like bamboo shoots after rain, each pair of black eyes curiously inspecting the uninvited guests.
The bad news is, the eggs are gone.
The good news is there will be more eggs in the future.
“Moreover, if Sang Biao comes to the farm as a guest, be sure not to let these little chicks appear before its eyes,” Chen Yuan pondered silently.
Foxes and chickens are natural enemies; even if both evolve, the situation probably won’t improve much.
“Hmm…”
Lost in thought, Chen Yuan suddenly realized something—Bean Chicken had hatched a total of seven little chicks, of which four were Bean Chicken chicks and three were ordinary little chicks.
“Clearly, not every egg hatched is a Bean Chicken chick.”
But come to think of it, some of these eggs were laid before the Spiritual Energy Revival, so it’s normal to hatch non-Bean Chicken chicks.
Of course, for Chen Yuan, it’s a bit regretful that not all are Bean Chicken chicks.
But for Bean Chicken, for any mother really, as long as they are her own kids, there’s only joy and happiness in her heart.
Moreover, she will do her utmost to protect her children from being harassed by strange pet beasts.
Take Cola, for example, who was drooling at the Bean Chicken chicks. Bean Chicken directly spread its wings, glaring fiercely at the latter with a gaze sharper than ever.
Chen Yuan pulled Cola back, seriously warning: “Don’t target your colleagues.”
