Beautiful Beast - Page 129
Belle has enough on her plate without her money-hungry, abusive mother harassing her and reminding her of a past best left forgotten.
“What happened?”
“Enrique told me that she’s tried to storm into the building and the security guards had to stop her,” Belle admits.
I wish Enrique had toldmeso that I could have handled it without involving Belle. That’s my preference – eliminate problems and threats before they reach my girl.
She’s so sweet and sensitive, and she doesn’t need to know that her mother is coming here to try and guilt-trip her. Her mother just needs to be sent away.
“So, we either get a restraining order or hire a private security company,” I return. “I don’t want you dealing with any bullshit, and she’s completely unstable.”
“Chances are, the police won’t do anything because she hasn’t technically broken a law. But we can try.”
“I’ll keep you safe, princess.”
Her face lights up again, and she strides over to nudge Buster off my lap so she can sit on me instead. Buster huffs but obediently heads over to his bed.
“I know,” Belle whispers. “And I appreciate it – and you – so much.”
“Don’t forget that we can’t hang out tomorrow night,” I say, wrapping my arms around her.
I have another appointment at the sleep clinic to monitor me and make sure that the medication is working. Before Belle can stay with me, I need to be absolutely sure that nothing will happen to her.
“I’ll still come over,” Belle says, nuzzling into my neck. “Buster and I will sleep in your bed because it smells like you.”
“I love you, princess.”
I’ve said the words to other women in the past, naively believing they were true. But until I met Belle, I had no idea what true love meant. She’s exceptional in every way and is always raising the bar for both of us, pushing us to be better as people and a couple.
I’ve met my match, and there’s no chance that I’m ever letting her go.
“I love you, too.”
There are way too many reasons why we shouldn’t be together.
I have so many roadblocks in my way as I work toward being a man she can be proud to be with.
Somehow, she’s okay with what I can offer right now.
And that’s the thing.
Love doesn’t have to make sense.
Sometimes the beauty falls in love with the beast.
Epilogue: 1 year later (Belle)
“Whatpartofourtrip are you most excited about?” I ask.
We’re in the backseat of a limo being transported to our villa in Santorini. Before today, I had never been on a commercial plane, let alone a private jet.
Sometimes how rich Adam is still shocks me.
“Fucking you,” Adam returns without hesitation.
I giggle. “You do that at home.”
“Yeah, but it will hit different on a yacht. I can’t wait to swim with you in the Aegean Sea, princess. This is going to be epic.”
