Bind Me - Page 141
When I step into the lobby, it’s almost like another world. The rush and buzz of the business day swirls around me. Everyone is in a hurry.
It’s so easy to sink into the fantasy that it’s just me and the guys. But there’s this whole world outside our doors that wouldn’t appreciate what we’ve found together. The appeal of keeping to ourselves isn’t hard to accept.
A little happy sigh works through me. This is the part I love about working in a huge company. I pass the normal elevator banks and reach the receptionist desk.
The receptionist is on the phone while a person waits for her on the other side of the card-accessible area. She notices me and, with a roll of her eyes, points to a white box wrapped with a silver ribbon.
I lift what seems like a garment box and return to the elevator. Did Seth get me another outfit? I already have more clothes than I could wear over the next year. Even so, my heart pounds with excitement as the elevator climbs to the top floor.
Presents aren’t something I’m used to. Growing up, we didn’t have extra money for things that weren’t useful. I’m not used to feeling spoiled, but I love that they want to spoil me. That Seth wants to spoil me.
When the elevator arrives, I walk to my desk and set the box down. My gaze goes to Seth’s closed door. Should I ask first? He’s on a call. He didn’t give it to me directly, so I should just open it.
I unwrap the ribbon and take the lid off. Cold sweeps through me as I stare at the contents. A scream fills my ears.
