Chapter 1820: Chalk Versus Bellarine
—–
“I already told you, a noble among nobles has no weakness!”
Blank roared. Though his skin was burned in several places and he had taken heavy damage, he refused to abandon his pride. He charged Franken once more, clashing with ferocious intensity. Each blow shook the Netherworld. Their duel tore through the landscape, the massive shockwaves from their strikes hurling dozens of soldiers around them into the air.
“RAAAAHHHH!”
“HAAAAAH!”
Franken and Blank poured their very souls, wills, spirits, and hearts into the battle. Once Franken transformed, they seemed perfectly matched. Their fight was utterly cataclysmic. The world around them appeared to shatter. A colossal crater formed beneath their feet as White Void Weapons and White Void Flames constantly collided against Infernal Flame Fists and more.
BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!
Watching her brother struggle so fiercely against that monstrous zombie, Chalk felt a strange unease. She had never seen him exert such effort or invest so much time in an opponent. These invaders were clearly strong enough to demand it.
“Huh, big brother is really having the time of his life~”
As she spoke, she soared through the skies above the war. She swung a pair of enormous White Void Scythes, harvesting the souls of hundreds of Undead with each sweep. Rapidly, she began turning the tide in favor of the White Ghosts.
The souls she reaped transformed into White Specters shaped like adorable creatures—bats, cats, dogs, and more. These new forms massacred even more Undead, mercilessly claiming their ghostly essences.
“Don’t blame me for what’s happening to you. Blame your own leaders for being foolish enough to attack our city!” she shouted furiously, laughing as she watched her enemies writhe in agony.
Though she had shown kindness to Elayne and her group, Chalk was a ruthless fighter who delighted in her foes’ suffering. She had mastered soul enslavement magic above all else. Her scythes were crafted specifically to rip souls from her enemies and turn them into her obedient pets.
“Ohohohoho!”
As she laughed and swung her scythes, seeing her enemies powerless to resist, the White Ghost soldiers cheered and smiled. The mere presence of these two nobles was finally shifting the battle. Relief washed over them.
“Lady Chalk is incredible!”
“She’s so strong!”
“With her we can win!”
“Lord Blank is handling that giant monster too…!”
“This is our chance, let’s— Ugh?!”
But the group of soldiers near Chalk suddenly froze. A ghostly maiden with a gaseous purple body appeared before them. She smiled warmly and wagged her index finger, as though warning them that safety was still far away.
“Oh please, you’re already deciding to relax when the party has just begun? Hahahaha!”
As she laughed, her ghostly form spread everywhere around her. The soldiers tried to fight back but could not destroy this strange phantasmal essence. It infiltrated their nostrils and mouths, beginning to poison their souls and destabilize their physical forms.
“Fufufu, oh dear noble lady~ Look here!”
“What?!”
Chalk glared toward the commotion. Her eyes widened as she saw the ghost woman toying with the poisoned souls of the soldiers, stretching them, twisting them, then transforming them into horrid spectral insects made of purple and black ghostly energy. The insects flew toward Chalk, attacking her with giant mandibles and claws.
“Who the hell are you?! Ugh, what are you doing to my people?!”
Chalk was furious. She attacked the insects with her scythes, quickly destroying their forms and freeing the souls of the White Ghosts. But the damage was too severe. They could not return to their former selves. Slowly, they began to scatter.
“L-Lady Chalk…!”
“Help us…!”
“Uuuaaaggh…!”
“I don’t want to die yet…! My… wife is… pregnant…!”
“Wait! Don’t go yet!” Chalk screamed. She tried to use her powers to seal their souls into another form so she could keep them alive and heal them later. It was too late. She managed to save only three out of a dozen. “D-Damn it!”
She quickly stored the three orbs containing the barely alive White Ghost souls and stared at the woman before her, who continued laughing.
“What am I doing, you ask, Lady Chalk? Well! I was merely doing the same thing you do, right? I was torturing the souls of your people! Isn’t it only fair I do it to yours too?” she laughed.
“You damn bitch, your type are the ones I hate the most…” Chalk groaned, clenching her teeth as she floated toward the poisonous purple ghost woman. “Who are you?!”
“Me? Ah, excuse my rudeness, oh great noble among nobles!” the ghost woman mocked. “I am the Poisonous Ghostly Madam—Bellarine! As you can already see, I am a very rare Poison Ghost. I specialize in all kinds of nasty stuff, you know~? I bet you would get addicted to it, my lady. Shall we give it a go?”
“Not only are you disgusting, you’re also a pervert,” Chalk sighed. “To think these are the types of Undead that command that Demon King’s army! It is obvious enough that he’s a bastard without standards! No wonder he hasn’t even managed to conquer the Labyrinth Region yet!”
“Tsk! Keep my King out of your mouth, you petty slut!” Bellarine roared. Her voluptuous and beautiful form transformed. Her legs and hair turned into hundreds of long snake-like heads gleaming with purple ghostly light. “FOR DARING TO INSULT HIM, YOU’LL PAY WITH YOUR LIFE!”
“Hoh? Was my remark not to your taste?” Chalk laughed. “Very well then, come at me, you filthy, brazen bitch!”
The Poisonous Ghostly Madam—Bellarine—rushed forward, expanding into hundreds of massive spectral snakes. Chalk swung her scythes, cutting through dozens of heads while drawing closer to her main body, smiling confidently.
“Wait, that’s it?! How weak!”
SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!
She unleashed four powerful slashing attacks, cleaving through Bellarine’s entire body! The hundreds of snake heads exploded. Her form swelled and burned, beginning to detonate from within repeatedly.
“My White Void Soul has the property of making anything I slash with it explode at command!” Chalk laughed. “This is the power of us nobles among nobles. Do you understand, lowly creature?”
“Oh, is that so?! Hahahahaha!” Bellarine laughed even as she kept exploding. “Hahahahaha! How interesting! How beautiful! That power…!”
As she continued to detonate, Chalk realized her body was not dissipating or scattering. Instead, it kept growing—endlessly growing. Her true size seemed utterly immense. Shock widened Chalk’s mouth as she stared in disbelief.
“Is now mine.”
“…?!”
Chalk’s eyes widened again as she understood what was happening. Bellarine concentrated, absorbed, and converted the explosions into her own power. She separated fragments of herself and fired them at Chalk from every angle, surrounding her with a gigantic ghostly soul shaped like an endless storm of purple, black, and red chaos.
BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!
Chalk was bombarded with countless explosions. Her Soul Armor rapidly manifested as she shielded herself, rushing toward the soul walls of Bellarine in an attempt to escape the trap. She had no idea how the ghost woman was copying her own technique, but it was clear Bellarine was far more dangerous than she had imagined.
