Chapter 1850: Planning What To Do
—–
“I guess so…” Elena said. “But how are we even meeting Ame?”
“No idea,” Elayne sighed. “I have no direct way to contact him like this… however, Kaguya, do you know which Kami she was?”
“She said she was from Mount Takao; she was a Mountain and Cherry Blossom Deity…” Elena pulled out her phone to check, but it nearly slipped into the hot water. Elayne caught it with an invisible spiritual force and held it steady in her hands. “Can you see the map?”
“Yes,” Elayne replied. “Hm, maybe I should get my own phone too… and perhaps some new clothes? I can summon all this life, but I can’t conjure new outfits.”
“Yeah, I’d rather not have you walking around naked everywhere, Mom…” Elena said, offering a light smile. “Let’s go shopping later.”
“Yay!” Elayne clapped happily. “Yes, let’s make sure to enjoy our time together, dear. Aaaand, aha! Over here—Mount Takao! Oh wow, it’s right on the outskirts of Tokyo?”
“Can we reach it?” Elena asked.
“Yes, the Leylines extend into the mountains; they’re their veins after all,” Elayne explained. “It might be possible to visit Kaguya’s true form, and through her, we could find a connection to Ame-no-Seimei.”
“Then that’s a plan,” Elena nodded. “If we could gain their backing for this war, things might become much easier. Outside help isn’t banned, right?”
“Outside intervention is not banned, indeed,” Elayne confirmed. “That also means everyone else participating will do whatever they please too. We have to be careful.”
Elena sighed. “Yeah… and about Amaterasu?”
“You said this place is connected to her? I can feel her presence everywhere, especially above the sky. She’s governing this entire Domain—no, this is a Realm, right?” Elayne asked.
“Yeah…”
Elena explained everything to her mother: where they were, what was happening, the full scope of this Clan, and what Amaterasu had been doing all this time.
“A Clan! That’s amazing, and it’s even connected to the Imperial Family?!” Elayne exclaimed, covering her mouth in shock. “No way, and Olivia managed to get you transferred here for the year as the reward for winning that magician battle match! So impressive! I owe her so much. I hope we can meet her someday. I wonder if she would keep my existence a secret?”
“Maybe. I believe she’s trustworthy—she’s done so much for us…” Elena smiled warmly. “Aside from my friends, she’s been the only one truly there for us. I’m really grateful for everything…”
“I see. I’m relieved,” Elayne nodded. “Perhaps I could find a way to contact Amaterasu or her Gods. I am a goddess after all.”
“W-What? How?” Elena asked.
Elayne stepped out of the bath and gazed slowly toward the sky through the window. “I think that if I fully manifest and fly high enough, I can pierce through the heavens and reach… a higher plane. Their Divine Realm where the Kami live.”
“…?! You can just do that?!” Elena asked. “Well, that sounds impressive, but what do we gain from it?”
“Finding more allies, perhaps gathering materials, resources, cultivation methods—anything to make us stronger,” Elayne said. “After all, I also want you to grow strong. What that young boy Matsuo mentioned earlier about Spiritual Roots made me wonder if they have any methods to help you cultivate the power within your Divine Spiritual Heart. Even if it’s primarily because of me, if you can permanently internalize it—even when I disappear or cease being a Heroic Spirit—some of my lingering power could pass to you forever.”
“…!” Elena’s eyes widened. “B-But could it be possible to keep you permanently, Mom?”
“Hmmm, I don’t know,” Elayne sighed. “Well, if we win the war, you won’t need to worry about that. So let’s not dwell on bad things, alright?”
Elena fell silent for a moment but nodded. As she stepped out of the bathroom, she said, “But you’re right… I guess I’ll put real effort into learning anything the people here have to offer.”
“Alright then, shall we go have breakfast? We’ve chatted for too long,” Elayne said. “I bet you’re starving.”
Elena savored her mother’s gentle spoiling—helping her dry off and slip into fresh clothes. The new school uniform was an adorable white, gold, and red military-themed outfit. Matsuo wore the same one, and it looked sleek and sharp.
“Then let’s go,” Elena nodded. “To a new life…” She sighed softly as Elayne dissolved into particles of spiritual energy and vanished, though she remained nestled within Elena’s Spiritual Heart, able to speak whenever she wished.
“Ah right, I was wondering how Blackie is. Is the kitty alright? What about the Druids?” Elayne asked.
“Blackie is fine,” Elena replied. “He chose to stay in the Domain with the other familiars that survived. They’ve become the Domain’s Divine Guardians. The Druids are the reason Spirits were introduced into Canada—they negotiated with the government to grant them citizenship in exchange for helping deal with the monsters. A lot of new Druids started arriving from around the world, so the original small group has grown much larger.”
“Oh wow…” Elayne sighed in relief. “That’s nice…”
Within Elena’s Spiritual Heart, Elayne sat atop a vast ethereal forest teeming with animals, spirits, and vibrant life. This was her own Spirit Realm, manifested whenever she resided inside the heart—intangible yet beautifully real. “I’m worried about your sibling… You said he merged with an Yggdrasil Seedling back in the Forest of Beginnings, right? One that sprouted right next to the other…”
Elena nodded. “Yeah, he did… I don’t know what he’s doing right now or how he is. Everything regarding Arcadia remains a mystery to me.”
Elayne fell silent. She gazed at her reflection in the flowing rivers nearby, her thoughts heavy with her lost child. She pressed her palms together and began to pray to the gods for his safety and well-being.
This was all she could do now, unfortunately—pray.
But what she did not yet realize was that the power carried by a god’s prayer far exceeded anything anyone could imagine.
“Ah, Elena! You sure took your time. We’re almost done eating,” Anna sighed. “Matsuo went outside… He might be getting impatient.”
“Sorry, sorry,” Elena apologized. She sat on the tatami floor and greeted the maidservant—a calm-faced Japanese woman who quickly served her food. “T-Thanks…” She still wasn’t accustomed to having a maidservant.
“Is it just me, or are you not using magic to cover your appearance anymore?” Elisa wondered.
“Uh, yeah, it happened when… you know what,” Elena said. “I was somehow able to return to my original human form.”
Elena referred to the moment she had merged with the catalyst that summoned Elayne as the Heroic Spirit of the Ruler Class. Somehow, her human appearance had returned fully, though she could still sense her Blue Oni form lingering beneath the surface—ready to emerge with a single thought.
“Aw, I wish I had that,” Elisa sighed. “These scales are so annoying sometimes, and they get itchy with so many clothes layered on top. But I don’t want to dress too casually either… It’s a real dilemma.”
“I wish I could help. Let’s find a solution together later,” Elena said. She couldn’t speak openly about Elayne with the maidservant present, waiting attentively for any command or request… She began to suspect the Amaterasu Clan had placed her here to watch them as well, just in case.
Once she finished breakfast, Elena stepped outside and rejoined Matsuo. “Done? Let’s hurry—the classes are about to begin.” With his usual gentle demeanor, he guided everyone through the vast gardens and the town until they reached a grand palace where the Onmyōji School was housed.
