Cheat Cultivator's Ascension - Chapter 472 - 472: Taking Guess

“All this act that Duchess… no, Miss Xiang won’t usually do just because of intuition?” Su Xiaotian asks in interest as he felt like this lady is becoming more and more unique in his eyes, the fact alone that she would rather trust in something as vague as that rather than anything logical, something that piques his interest.
‘No… I think it’s rather right, while it is true that it is composed of rules, law, and the Dao that acts in a certain manner with each other, the world is not all logic after all…’ he corrects himself before snapping out of his thoughts as he heard the lady’s answer to his question.
“A woman’s intuition, young man, emphasis on the word woman…” Dongfang Xiang pauses before she continues as she starts making herself comfortable, leaning on the soft sheets of the carved stone seat, trying to find a comfortable position for herself.
“I am not bragging, but I genuinely think that my intuition is way sharper than anyone I have ever encountered in my life so far, so much that my sister, a queen of a kingdom spanning multiple worlds, often consults me rather than the renowned scholars of our kingdom whenever she feels uncertain about something…”
She paused as her gaze was directed to the stone table before she lifted her face once more, her gaze on the immortal-like young man, her eyes glowing with intelligence and wit, mixed with excitement as if a child who had just found a treasure in the most unexpected of places.
“…and that very same intuition is telling me that now that I know of your existence, there are only two paths for me, the first, I do my best to take care of you while you’re still in need, invest on you, let’s say, and enjoy the manifold return once you succeed…” she pauses for a while, looking at the young man with curiosity in her eyes, the long pause, her stare, the air around her, all seemingly pushing the young man in front of her to take a guess on what the second path is.
And picking this up, the immortal-like young man merely shakes his head with a wry smile on his face, in quite the disbelief that he will be expected as someone who can read minds by this lady, such a helpless act a mere façade, as he couldn’t help but take this challenge of wit on.
“Let’s see, as for your second path…” the young man pauses for a while, seemingly trying to think about their conversation, a smile eventually cracking from his pondering face as he faces the lady’s gaze once more.
“Normally, any force of power also has two paths they can take whenever they find a genius beyond their expectations, first, recruit and take control, and second, make use and dispose of them, or even worse than that is just straight up dispose of them should they prove themselves a threat to this power…” Su Xiaotian paused for a while, seeing the smile on the lady’s face, making him think that the answer he has yet to present is most likely the right one.
‘He definitely has quite the brain in him, unfortunately, he cannot quite figure out how my intuition work yet…’ Dongfang Xiang thought to herself, a little bit disappointed that the young man fails to guess correctly what the second path she is thinking is, already intending to point it out but was cut in the middle as the young man continues to speak.
“…well, that’s how it would usually go with normal forces, but if anything, I don’t think you’re normal at all, Miss Xiang…” the immortal-like young man pointed out as his eyes glow amidst the lighting of the grotto, his eyes, seemingly seeing through beyond the physical, a gaze so intense and piercing that Dongfang Xiang, a Celestial level being, felt shivers running down her spine.
‘What a monster…’ she was reminded once again as she revels in the feeling of this young man not only having the intellect, but seemingly the insight as well to follow her thoughts, her heart burning more with anticipation as she wonders whether this young man will guess it right.
Seeing that the lady does not want to intervene with his words, Su Xiaotian then starts speaking once again, his eyes returning to normal, as if the gaze that seemingly sees through the very essence of an individual, the gaze he just showed previously, is nothing but an illusion.
“If it’s not that then, there’s not much, if any option at all…” seemingly stuck in front of a wall with no more path to progress further, Su Xiaotian reveals a troubled, pondering expression that made the duchess roll her eyes in annoyance, feeling like it was yet another one of this young man’s cliffhanger, her intuition telling her that she shouldn’t interrupt his words.
And almost as if said intuition works like a charm, the immortal-like young man continues with his words yet again, this royal lady not realizing how intense her anticipating gaze was on the young man in front of her, to the point that should one see how she is right now, they might even wonder if she’s trying to take off the young man’s clothes with her gaze alone.
“If I were to give an answer though… as arrogant as it might sound, I think the second path that Miss Xiang’s intuition gave her is staying as far away from barring my path as possible” smiling confidently as he caught the gaze of the duchess with his, Su Xiaotian finishes his words, the lady’s eyes slightly widening for a brief moment short enough for her to control herself without anyone noticing.
‘Truly impressive…’ she praised the young man in her mind as she started to realize that it might not only be in terms of cultivation and combat prowess that he excels, as he might also be more than likely capable of other things as well, a bit of her mind still wondering whether it was just a lucky guess on his part.
And to test whether it is just truly a lucky break from him or not, she smiles, a different one from her previous amiable smile, one that is filled with quite the malice and a trace of bloodlust.
“That’s quite the claim you have, young man, aren’t you being way too over your head saying something, or even daring to think something like that?” despite the true absence of hostility and killing intent, Dongfang Xiang thought that this level of intent from her should be more than enough for her to make the young man feel like he is in danger, her mind wondering just how he will respond to such situation.
Her eyes, nay, all her senses are bound to disappoint her though as the next moment, the moment she thought the young man will, at the very least, reveal a troubled look on his face, there’s nothing but calmness, her body flinching a little as she just realized that instead of backing down, the young man is staring right back at her with calm, unbothered eyes.
