Dark Magus Returns - Chapter 1341 - 1341: A qucik attack (Part 1)

Seeing a completed dimensional portal wasn’t exactly rare. In fact, it had almost become expected in certain places.
If a mid-tier portal was discovered with beasts the guild could handle, most of the time they would purposely avoid defeating the dimension boss. That way, they could continue to reap rewards from the beast crystals inside.
However, if the beasts inside were weak and the guild found the area too easy, they would rather take down the boss, collect its rare crystal, and attempt to open a new portal somewhere else.
It was a common pattern followed by many guilds.
That said, opening portals wasn’t something done on a whim. Each time one appeared, someone would record the location and the specific magic incantation used to open it.
That information could then be sold, licensed, essentially, to other guilds, allowing them to recreate the portal and explore the same dimension. It was a highly profitable practice.
But the real risk came when opening a new dimension. You had no idea what kind of beasts were waiting inside.
Testing the level of a dimension was tricky. If the portal led to a high-tier world, it could easily result in the loss of multiple guild members. So when it came to unknown dimensions, most guilds were far less eager to take chances.
‘Once a dimension boss is defeated, there’s a limited time where the portal remains stable and allows entry… but I heard there are mages who’ve entered completed Pagna dimensions before,’ Raze thought.
‘It makes me wonder, did the Grand Magus discover a way to enter these dimensions without having to defeat a boss first? And if so, what exactly were they searching for? Artifacts? Something else? If they’re tied to Cerebus, they might have the answer to how they’re pulling this off.’
Still, Raze forced himself to stay focused. There was something troubling him about the situation.
According to Safa’s description, the area had a specific setup. Portals were placed at the back right of the site, one was already completed, and a new one had opened in its place.
The real question was: Had the guild even taken the time to explore this new dimension before deciding to send the students inside? Or were they about to be thrown into an unscouted world?
‘Maybe… that’s why the guild contacted the academy in the first place,’ Raze considered. ‘But surely, they would have at least tested the waters first, right?’
In the back of his mind, Raze couldn’t forget one thing, this was the same group responsible for handing out cursed items.
“Alright!” Bronto’s booming voice cut through the buzz of idle chatter. The students instantly went quiet. Even the most talkative among them gave their full attention now that the guild leader was speaking.
“Your teachers will be guiding you inside. Whatever happens beyond that point is not the guild’s responsibility,” Bronto announced, his expression firm. “You’ll have a total of eight hours to explore the dimension.
“If you don’t return within that time, our guild members will enter and attempt a rescue.
“The dimension has a high beast rate count. I doubt you’ll trigger it, but in the unlikely event that the boss appears, under no circumstances are you to fight it.
“You are to follow your teachers and exit through the portal immediately.”
Toward the back, one student leaned in to whisper to the classmate beside him.
“What’s a high beast rate count?” he asked, too embarrassed to speak up in front of everyone.
“You seriously didn’t pay attention in class?” the other replied with a sigh. “Every dimension has a different number of beasts that can be killed before the boss appears.
“Guilds try to figure out that number, because if they want to farm safely, they don’t want the boss showing up unexpectedly.”
“Ohh, that makes sense!” the student nodded. “So a high beast count means they can take out a bunch of monsters without triggering the boss? Man… I’ve never even seen a dimension boss. That’s gotta be terrifying.”
Bronto, still in the middle of explaining, narrowed his eyes. He could hear the whispers.
Without a word, he raised his hand, and a bolt of lightning shot across the field.
It struck one of the whispering students square in the chest.
The force launched him backward. His body convulsed as electricity danced across his limbs, writhing on the floor in front of stunned classmates.
Gasps echoed. No one dared move.
Diana was the first to react, rushing to the student’s side. She knelt down, placing her hands over his chest as she channeled healing magic into his body, trying to reverse the damage.
“What the hell was that?!” Redrick shouted, his hands beginning to heat with raw energy. “Why did you attack our student?”
Bronto didn’t flinch.
“Do you not teach respect and discipline at your academy?” he said coolly. “This entire expedition is a favor to your school. What I’m saying is important, and if they won’t listen, what makes you think they’ll obey orders in a life-or-death situation?”
His gaze darkened.
“If these students die inside, that blood is on our hands. That’s why I’m giving them a taste of what to expect.
“If they can’t handle something like that, then how are they supposed to defend themselves when the real thing hits?”
Redrick clenched his fists, still fuming.
“You could’ve just warned them! A reminder of the situation would’ve been enough. You didn’t need to attack someone!”
But before things could escalate, Luka stepped forward and placed a firm hand on Redrick’s shoulder. A silent cue to calm down.
Yet amidst the tension, something else was happening.
“Safa, are you okay?” Liam asked, concern in his voice.
“Ah, yeah. Since it was a lightning spell, I just got grazed a little,” Safa said, trying to shrug it off.
“Let me see.”
Raze stepped in and gently took her hand. A red burn mark streaked across her skin. His eyes narrowed as he stared at the wound… then looked straight at Bronto.
His expression darkened.
