Dark Magus Returns - Chapter 1366 - 1366: The Guardians (Part 1)

Eventually, the student group had made it back to their starting point from when they had first arrived.
It was a more open area, with the flowing water off in the right in the distance, and if they were to head to the left side from where they came in, that’s where they would find the first toad beasts they had come across.
Instead, in order to find the exit, they needed to head in the opposite direction, which was toward the cliffside with the large, flowing stream of water.
Before they headed that way, Liam looked back at the foot of the hill they had just traversed, and with his system, he noticed the small creature, slightly bigger than one’s foot, standing on the edge.
“They never attacked us during the whole time we were fighting those giant birds,” Liam said.
“Right, and you said there were around three hundred following us. Is that still the case?” Beatrix asked.
Liam gulped slightly.
“Their numbers have increased a bit. It’s around 350 now. It makes me worry a little that when they reach a high enough number, they might eventually attack then.”
“Don’t worry, we’re getting out of this place as soon as possible,” Beatrix added.
While moving toward the waterfall, although no one trusted Bronto, they thought they might as well ask him as they made their way there.
“So, is the portal really in this direction?” Panla asked.
For a moment, Bronto turned to look at Raze and Dame to see if either were close to him. They weren’t within reaching distance, but he figured there had to be a reason for that,
Whether it was because they were confident enough that they could capture him even if he decided to escape, or not.
“We didn’t lie,” Bronto answered. “The exit portal really is in this direction. We just omitted to tell you everything we know.”
Raze looked at Liam to make sure he was checking for any lies in his speech.
“Explain,” Luka asked.
“The portal is in front of the waterfall,” Bronto said. “You will be able to see it in the distance before we even reach it, so you can confirm.
“I’ll tell you now though, it’s best if you sprint through that thing as soon as you see it. And even if you do that, it’s likely that some of you will die.”
The words sounded as if they were just there to scare the students, but when Raze looked at Liam, he nodded, so far, Bronto was telling the truth.
“If you thought those birds were scary, there are even stronger beasts in this dimension. And the two of them seem to be protecting the portal.
“We’ve come here a total of two times, and each time, the two beasts were there. The first time, we tried to fight the beasts.
“They wiped out half of our scouting team before we decided to just jump through. We had evaluated that even with all of our strength, it would have been impossible to kill them.
“The second time, we rushed to the portal but still lost a handful of people. You asked before why we left some of you alive, well, part of that was to have you as bait for the beasts so we could exit with the crystals.”
The students gulped. From the sound of things, the two beasts by the portal were strong, incredibly strong, and they had already struggled with the birds from before.
“Can that happen in a portal? I thought the portal exit and the portal entrance were meant to be the two safest places with the least amount of beasts, or at least lower-tier beasts.”
“Although that is the case ninety percent of the time, it’s not always the case,” Redrick answered. “There are strange cases of things not being in portals before. To put it simply, it’s normal for it to not be normal sometimes.”
What was worrying everyone though, was the beasts. What could they do? Truthfully, they could only think of one thing.
“We’ll fight it,” Dame said. “From the sounds of things, it will be a bit hard, but we should be able to take care of it. And it might be good for us to have a challenge, we haven’t had one in a while.”
The way Dame was casually speaking about it all made him sound like a monster himself.
“When I say ‘we’, Raze, I mean we as well. How about me and Liam fight one of them, and Beatrix and Safa fight the other?
“You stay back with the students and protect them, just in case there’s any trouble that comes up. Who knows, Bronto might have something else in store for us.
“If we’re doing well or it looks tough but we’re enough to hold them off, then you push through with the rest of the students,” Dame explained.
There was another reason why Dame didn’t want Raze to fight. He had already shown a lot that needed explaining. However, there was still one thing he hadn’t shown or used, and that was his Dark Magic.
If the beasts were hard to fight against, he would have to use his Dark Magic. Although Raze had explained some issues with Sark Magic, the fact he hadn’t used it at all said a lot.
“I’ve warned you. Even if you are strong, I don’t think you will be a match for those beasts,” Bronto commented.
With that, the students walked on silently until they could see it, the portal in front of the waterfall.
There were a few rocks on either side of the small canal of water they could use to get into the portal.
Being fifty meters away, they stopped and allowed four of the transfer students to go ahead.
“Are you worried for your friends?” Chiba asked.
“I’m not worried about these beasts. What I am worried about is, if there are such strong beasts like this, then what is the level of this dimension?” Raze replied.
