Dark Magus Returns - Chapter 1558: They Collide

Chapter 1558: They Collide
Every member of the Cerebus Guild who had been stationed inside the facility was now out in the open.
It was the worst-case scenario.
The only silver lining was that they hadn’t destroyed the entire base during their frantic search for the intruders. The bad news, that was only because one of them had already found Alen and Beatrix. The beacon of light that had pierced through the roof earlier hadn’t been a random flare of magic. It was a signal. A call.
That light had summoned the others, Tonto, Yellum, and the rest of the infamous elite squad of the Cerebus Guild.
Now all five of them were gathered, their golden energy radiating like small suns.
Alen’s soldiers immediately recognized the danger without him needing to explain. The moment the Cerebus mages began descending, his unit was already in motion, their instincts kicking in.
“Formation! Get ready!” one of the officers shouted.
There was no time to hesitate. They began casting the strongest spells they had in their arsenal.
Wind mages worked side by side with fire users, their mana intertwining to form a swirling vortex of flames that howled forward like a burning tornado. The air shimmered from the heat as it barreled toward the guild members.
Others conjured blades of lightning, massive, glowing swords that rose above their heads before being hurled through the air. Each weapon cracked with raw energy, powerful enough to split boulders and pierce reinforced steel.
They weren’t ordinary soldiers. These were Alen’s most trusted men, veterans of the Alterian military, trained to deal with disasters that could wipe out cities. Individually, they were strong. Together, they could devastate armies.
Their combined assault lit up the battlefield, and yet the Cerebus Guild didn’t even flinch.
Even outnumbered, they stood completely unfazed, their expressions unreadable.
While the attacks closed in, they didn’t counter with defensive barriers or evasive spells. Instead, they raised their hands in unison, mana pulsing at their fingertips.
A collective hum filled the air as their energy began to gather, golden light converging into five separate beams. The moment those beams collided, they fused, creating a single, massive wave of radiant energy that expanded outward.
When it touched the soldiers’ spells, the golden light devoured everything it met. The vortex of fire vanished, consumed as if it had never existed. The lightning blades shattered into particles of light before disintegrating completely.
It was the same phenomenon that had occurred during the magical exchange at the Central Academy, pure mana energy overpowering and erasing all other forms of magic.
“Get out of the way!” Alen shouted.
He slammed both palms against the ground, channeling a surge of mana through the earth. Flames erupted from the ground around his soldiers, not as an attack but as a powerful blast of kinetic force.
The explosion threw his allies in every direction, pushing them out of the incoming beam’s path just in time.
The golden wave struck where they had been standing moments earlier, carving a crater into the field. The ground itself crumbled and split open, molten rock visible beneath the surface.
When the light finally faded, the sheer scale of destruction was staggering. Entire sections of the field had been turned to glass.
And above them, the five members of the Cerebus Guild began to descend.
’This is bad,’ Alen thought, his heart pounding. ’When those Central students transformed during the exchange, their strength skyrocketed. These forms, these light-empowered bodies, are doing the same thing. The difference is, these five have been using that power for years.’
The thought was crushing. Not only was their mana output overwhelming, but their healing abilities were near limitless.
’Even if we manage to land a fatal blow, they’ll just recover again. How do we fight something like that?’
Still, his men didn’t falter. They couldn’t. If they hesitated, they’d die anyway.
“Keep attacking!” someone shouted.
The soldiers regrouped, forming smaller circles as they prepared their next spells. Dozens of magic arrays glowed in unison, painting the ground beneath them with complex patterns.
The counterattack began, a storm of spells arcing through the air, fire, water, and lightning colliding as they rained down upon the golden mages.
But the Cerebus Guild’s defense was terrifying.
One of the mages, a tall man with glowing runes etched across his arms, simply raised his hand. A translucent golden sphere expanded outward from his body. When the barrage hit, the spells evaporated instantly, leaving not even a flicker of light behind.
Elsewhere, chaos erupted.
Every soldier faced something different. Some tried to fight with elemental spells, others conjured barriers just to survive. Yet, many of their attacks did nothing, either deflected or absorbed.
A few of the golden mages didn’t even bother to dodge. They allowed fireballs and lightning strikes to hit them directly, their skin charring and cracking under the impact, only to heal seconds later as radiant energy flowed through their veins.
They were monsters in human form.
And the leader, Yellum, moved like a phantom among them.
She faced three of Alen’s soldiers alone. As they launched simultaneous attacks, she calmly raised her arm. Frost gathered around her palm, then burst forward in a sweeping gust.
The freezing air enveloped the men’s legs instantly, the temperature dropping so sharply that the ground crystallized beneath them. Within seconds, their lower bodies were encased in thick, unbreakable ice.
“Quick! Use fire, melt it!” one of the trapped soldiers yelled, panic rising in his voice.
He struggled, his hands shaking as he tried to summon a spell, but before he could finish the chant, Yellum’s other hand began to glow.
A golden sphere formed in her palm, humming with lethal power.
She pointed it directly at the screaming man’s face.
The beam fired, a blinding streak of light that cut through the night like a laser.
When it faded, there was nothing left above his shoulders.
His body fell limp, the ice cracking beneath him as he hit the ground.
The other two soldiers froze in horror.
Beatrix, watching from the side, clenched her teeth so hard she thought they’d break. Alen’s flames flared around him again, rage rising alongside the heat.
One of their own was gone.
And this was only the beginning.
