Dark Magus Returns - Chapter 1575: The Attack (Part 1)

Chapter 1575: The Attack (Part 1)
Having gathered information from the military personnel as well as through the connections within the Dark Guild, everyone now knew the locations that needed to be targeted. Each of these places had been carefully identified as a stronghold or sanctuary of the Cerebus Guild, and the time had come to strike.
Once again, the large alliance was split into four attack groups. Varkos, the War Magus, led his own team composed of loyal military forces and a few of the new recruits who had volunteered to join their cause. Alen commanded another group, taking his most trusted allies and additional soldiers who had survived the earlier conflicts. Raze, accompanied by the warriors from Pagna and Kelly, formed the third group. Finally, Harvey and the members of the Dark Guild would handle the fourth front.
The plan was designed to prevent them from spreading too thin. The Cerebus Guild was known for its wide reach, spread across several key areas and hidden facilities. They couldn’t afford to divide their strength carelessly; each attack had to be swift and decisive. Once a target was eliminated, the team that finished first would move to assist the others. When all the locations were cleared, they would reunite at the Dark Guild base to discuss their next strike.
The strategy was simple: weaken the Cerebus Guild’s influence by dismantling its foundations, until eventually, all forces would converge on Gizin himself , the heart of the corruption. After breaking down the Guild piece by piece, they would gather their power and bring him down once and for all.
The plan was clear. And with that, they moved.
When Raze and his group set out, each wore their special masks, concealing their identities from any potential witnesses. They traveled in silence through the misty city streets until they reached a towering glass skyscraper , one of the few buildings still shining bright amidst the chaos gripping Alterian.
“Is this the right place?” Liam asked, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the front entrance.
“Yeah,” Kelly replied, her tone confident but tense. “It’s a law firm the Guild uses for legal coverage and financial benefits. We’ve confirmed that a group of their members are hiding inside.”
Unlike other known Cerebus Guild locations that had drawn crowds of protestors or attacks from rival guilds, this one was quiet. No one outside suspected what was hidden within. That made it the perfect trap , or the perfect opportunity.
The group entered the building swiftly, moving as one. Inside, a few receptionists and guards immediately reacted, startled by the masked intruders.
“Hey! Do you have an appointment?” one of the guards shouted, already channeling light magic in his palms.
Before he could finish his spell, Liam was in motion. His hand shot out, gripping the guard’s wrist and twisting it sharply. The energy released from the man’s own palm blasted toward his partner, slamming him backward with a burst of fire.
At the same time, Raze leapt over the front desk, his foot slamming down with precision. The impact shattered the marble counter completely, destroying the emergency alarm crystal hidden beneath.
He didn’t pause. Raising both hands, he unleashed a burst of wind magic that spiraled outward like a storm. Two more guards, who had been preparing spells of their own, were lifted clean off their feet and hurled through the glass walls, crashing down onto the pavement below.
“Come on,” Raze ordered, his tone calm and sharp. “We need to move. The longer we stay here, the worse it’ll get. Head to the right floor.”
The group stepped into a glowing circular lift , a magical elevator powered by a transport rune. As soon as the circle activated, light enveloped them, and in an instant, their surroundings changed.
When the light faded, they were standing in a wide office lined with golden-trimmed shelves and polished desks. The scent of old paper and mana ink lingered in the air. But they weren’t alone.
Around them stood several Cerebus Guild members, their eyes hard and calculating. Each one bore the signature golden wings of light magic, folded behind their backs, their hands already raised.
A volley of radiant energy formed at their fingertips , and before anyone could react, it was fired.
Raze moved first. His foot crashed down, invoking the First of the Descending Steps. Dark magic fused instantly with his Qi, spreading through the ground like rippling smoke. A wave of dense energy burst upward, wrapping the group in an invisible barrier.
The light spells hit the dark wave and burst into flickering fragments, unable to pierce through. The ground trembled under the clash of magic.
Raze’s voice was calm but edged with power. “They’re strong , don’t hold back.”
As the light faded, he shot forward, both palms glowing black. He unleashed twin Dark Pulses, each aimed at a separate target. The beams struck clean through the Guild members’ arms, tearing through flesh before they began to regenerate rapidly, golden energy knitting their wounds back together.
“They’re just like the ones Alen and I fought before,” Beatrix warned, stepping in beside him. “Everyone, stay sharp.”
Raze nodded. “Then we’ll do the same , and finish it faster.”
Around them, the battle erupted in full. The warriors from Pagna flowed into their stances with practiced ease, blending Qi techniques and Alterian weapons seamlessly. Liam ducked low, his claws clashing against a golden blade as sparks of energy scattered. Safa’s spear ignited with divine light as she struck a barrier spell, her force breaking through it like glass.
Kelly, ever precise, conjured a line of wind blades that sliced across the room, forcing several opponents to the floor.
Raze advanced through the chaos, his cloak whipping in the backlash of magic. Each motion was deliberate, efficient. A flick of his wrist sent shadows lashing forward like serpents. Another step , and the floor cracked beneath his feet as a shockwave threw two more enemies across the room.
Within minutes, the office was a wreck. Bookshelves shattered, marble walls scorched with black streaks of energy. One by one, the golden-winged mages fell.
Safa wiped a streak of blood from her cheek, her breathing steady. “This is strange,” she said slowly, scanning the ruined office. “Is it just me… or did it feel like they were expecting us?”
