Dark Magus Returns - Chapter 1596: The Unbreakable Gauntlet

Chapter 1596: The Unbreakable Gauntlet
The selection of battle opponents was swift and decisive. While the other core members of Raze’s defense team sped off to their assignments, Dame took his time. He waited, letting Liam and Beatrix head in their respective directions to engage their assigned targets. He would personally deal with the last of the Masked Cerebus Guild members he could see.
He wasn’t concerned with which one he fought; to him, the enemy looked identical, and they all seemed to possess an equal, terrifying level of strength.
He spotted his designated target in the distance: a figure who wasn’t landing or heading toward a strategic point. Instead, the Masked Man was hovering ominously over a residential section of the Underside. Beams of raw, destructive energy were shooting from his hands, casually tearing through the fragile housing and brutally silencing the few hidden local warriors who had tried to ambush him from the rooftops.
As Dame ran toward the escalating chaos, leaping across the fragile rooftops of the makeshift houses, he felt a cold, focused fury replace his usual boisterous energy. He could hear the desperate screams being abruptly cut short.
I always believed that those in the Demonic Faction were the true scum of the earth, Dame thought, his eyes narrowed, locked onto the hovering figure. But it seems there are equally disgusting and cruel beings here in the light.
Wasting no precious time, Dame made the immediate decision to activate the full, volatile power of his Gauntlet. He saw no reason to hold back his strength; the unique, stabilizing cure he held within his body was something that remained constantly active, a safety net. He knew he would need every single particle of his power to fight these truly elite opponents.
He channeled the raw, chaotic energy of Simyon through the Gauntlet. His Hybrid body instantly hardened, the muscles surging with power, and then it began to violently electrify itself. Using a rapid, focused burst of pure Qi, he propelled himself high into the air. He maintained this lightning-fast trajectory until he appeared directly above the unsuspecting Cerebus member, a furious, armored thunderbolt.
“Hey, asshole!” Dame roared down, the sound echoing with the crackle of electricity. “It’s time you tested some of your own medicine!”
With one hand raised, Dame shot out a counter-burst of Qi to propel himself downward like a comet. His hand, now fully covered in the powerful Gauntlet, seized the back of the Masked Man’s neck, and he slammed the elite warrior straight into the ground.
The attack was a symphony of destruction, combining brute force, focused Qi, and the crushing weight of his electrified descent. It made a sickening, resonating impact, creating a deep imprint in the ground. Even the Masked Man seemed momentarily stunned. But Dame was nowhere near done.
“The Demonic Faction teaches us that the only true path is one of complete domination!” Dame roared, ignoring the dust and debris. He lifted the man from the crater he’d just made and began swinging both of his massive, armored arms at an incredible, blurring speed.
He rained down a brutal, continuous succession of hits, each one laced with explosive Qi that burst from the other side of the Masked Man’s body. To prevent the enemy from simply being flung out of his grasp by the force, two additional, powerful arms, a partial manifestation of his hybrid form, extended from Dame’s back. They clamped onto the Masked Man’s shoulders, locking him in place and forcing him to endure the full, savage onslaught.
But even during this unrelenting flurry of blows, the entire body of the captured Masked Man began to glow with a familiar, dangerous intensity.
This looks like it’s going to hurt, Dame thought, the instinct honed by countless brutal fights surging to the fore.
A massive wave of bright light erupted, blasting Dame off the Masked Man’s body and slamming him violently into the side of a building, which partially collapsed around him.
He was instantly back on his feet, thankful for the impossible durability of his form. His body was a rare Hybrid, one of the strongest beings in existence, and the constant application of the Gauntlet’s trait made his body even stronger, a constant, electrifying shield thanks to the latent power of his old friend.
When he looked at the Masked Man who was now recovering, the smooth, blank mask hadn’t even cracked. The man looked utterly undamaged, completely fine.
“Is that mask welded onto your face or something?” Dame commented, spitting out a piece of rubble. “I punched you directly in the face, and that thing didn’t shatter. And you don’t look hurt at all. This fight… this is going to be a real, honest-to-god pain in the neck, isn’t it?”
Dame immediately completed his transformation, summoning all of his available arms and shifting his face into the frightening Hybrid visage, all while maintaining the augmenting power of the Gauntlet.
He saw the glowing, ethereal wings open up on the Masked Man’s back as the enemy fired off several of the small golden energy balls.
Dame instinctively moved to dodge, but then stopped abruptly. He allowed the attacks to hit his body head-on.
When the lasers struck, they did next to nothing. Ignoring the minor sting, Dame focused his momentum and slammed his fist directly onto the Masked Man’s face, sending him sliding roughly across the floor with a screech of concrete.
“This body is stronger than anything you’ve ever tested before,” Dame claimed, charging again. “And unlike your magic, my entire body is the weapon!”
The area they were currently fighting in was a communal area, mostly open ground with several wooden posts and wires strung up for local residents to dry clothes. Thankfully, no civilians were close enough to be in immediate danger.
“Your attacks won’t hurt me permanently,” the Masked Man said, his voice strangely muffled and devoid of personality. “And you, the user of a borrowed power, will eventually run out of energy. You may have a strong body, but I have one that, for all intents and purposes, will never die.”
“Never die?” Dame repeated, a chilling, excited smile stretching his monstrous lips. “That sounds like a bit of a challenge to me.”
