D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad - Chapter 1970 Away Three

Chapter 1970: Chapter 1970 Away Three
— Green —
Green had finally escaped that twisted place. She’d almost trapped herself in there for good. She was decked out with more good gear than she knew what to do with and was running low on orbs. She needed to find some in the city ASAP or she wasn’t making it through tomorrow. See, the endless serious of quest she’d been going on. Running around in that maze, finding forms to fill out, collecting paperwork and more…
Well it just wasn’t giving the orbs it was meant to. Each task was taking longer and longer, and the tangible rewards were getting better and better. She’d nearly noticed two days ago when her storage bracelet was full… but then they offered her a completely separate storage device. This one was a ring for her finger and it had more space. So obviously it was worth sticking around for that… and then the improved bow… and then the armour upgrades all enchanted to make sure they fit perfectly.
And well… there were those fancy arrows, and the daggers. There was even a nice set of robes for Nixilei and a shield for Gareth. That one she HAD to have. She was so close to running another set of errands because they’d offered some boots with limited flight. As opposed to the ones they’d already offered which gave her a jump and glide, which might actually have been better.
The only reason she’d caught on was that she had been regularly checking her stock of orbs and her bracelet’s charge. If she’d been a bit less diligent on checking that, or perhaps been more interested on the boots on offer she could easily see herself getting sucked in for another day’s worth of work. Which… well…
Green didn’t actually know how long she’d been in there. Not anymore. She’d had a stockpile of orbs going in, which had initially grown… but clearly the fact it had shrunk to nothing and the fact she had a bunch of loot indicated it had been more than a few days. Green had rested during that time of course… but that was just to be expected. Perhaps if she’d been a bit less sleepy she could’ve kept a positive orb amount but honestly? Green doubted it.
As it stood, despite making the decision to leave it had still taken her over twelve hours to actually escape. This was something she DID time because she had a watch now. Wonder how that came about… Green sighed long and hard as she looked down at Timmy “Next time I get caught up in something like that, drag me out of the room,”
Timmy saluted, but Green knew it was no use. As soon as she gave her next order that one would be forgotten. Which… well it was fine. Green sighed again. *I’m going crazy here. I was expecting someone else to come up here and find me, wrestle with me for resources so I was MEANT to be in a rush but… nothing. Is it just that the damned maze was too much and most people left? Are there other people running around inside? How big even IS the rest of the island. It’s not like I’ve left.*
Green glanced over at her old destination from all those days ago. The place she’d determined had the best loot. The palace. *Do I still want to go for that? Or do I want to try and find people? Start taking them out? I’d completely forgotten the wall was even meant to come down in the centre area until Thyme announced the rule change. Do I want to risk losing myself a bit again?*
— Clive —
Stumbled back into town and slammed the proof of the kill on the bench. “Clive! You’re alive!” cheered Nolan. “Thought that monster would’ve done you in after your delay!”
Clive flashed back, remembering the knife he hadn’t seen coming imbedding itself in his throat before a fucking boulder was dropped on him. “Nope, just a bit of difficulties along the way…” admitted Clive with a slight twitch. “The fight with the monster actually wasn’t too bad…”
Despite the fact they took my fucking mask! That complaint raised another round of flashbacks. He was trapped under the rock, struggling to breath, and someone had just decided to start looting his stuff before another person went to crush his skull. The only reason the first person didn’t take any was that the second had an issue with it… maybe. The memories were a bit fuzzy.
“Oh?” intoned Nolan. “What sort of trouble did you meet?”
Clive shivered, wishing he knew. SOMEONE, or rather, two someones had clearly attacked him but he never saw their faces, never heard them. Even when they disagreed over how quickly to ’go for the kill’ they didn’t actually verbalise those complaints. The closest thing to information he had was that one of them used daggers…
Which told him fucking nothing! Basically everyone had a backup dagger just in case, and there were multiple people who had them as their main weapons! It didn’t really narrow it down. The only people he could safely say it wasn’t, were the rest of his team and Kat. Mostly because he doubted Kat could throw a dagger that accurately, but that was more of a guess on his part considering what Sky had told him about the girl.
“Ah, you know how it is. Ran into some other… monsters instead of the one I was looking for and they were quite the determined sort. It’s why I don’t have my mask anymore,” admitted Clive as he gestured at his face.
*Do I ask about any ’recent travellers’? I don’t want to give away the fact someone ’murdered’ me or that I can come back from ’the dead’ but that would be really nice information to know. Especially if they asked around about ME. It wouldn’t be hard to guess where I got the mask after all…
Then again, I think I can trust Nolan to mention it to me if they HAD mentioned that sort of thing. Maybe. This is all a setup by Thyme so like… was he told to be a shady person? He doesn’t seem like one, but I know enough about that sort of thing to realise that ’seems shady’ is an awful way to tell who’s actually a criminal.*
Clive shook his head, no sense going in circles. He had a decent question to ask without sounding like he was asking after anyway. “Anything interesting happen around here lately?”
“Nope,” said Nolan. “Absolutely nothing. We were expecting a few more people to join us for the seasons but they haven’t even shown up. Sure we got most of them but there’s always a few stubborn bastards you know how it is. There might be a quest to go looking for them though,”
Clive twitched once again, mind flashing back to that moment. “I think I’ll pass… at least for the rest of the day. Gotta relax a bit after a hunt you know?”
“Ah of course,” said Nolan with a dismissive wave. “Just thought I’d offer you something that’s likely safer you know? Didn’t want you to think it HAD to be done right now. They might even show up in a few days. Still… I can make sure to reserve it for you if you want?”
— Gareth —
Gareth wanted to bash his head against the cave walls. He’d managed to get out into the sun. To explore the area. To learn that he was in the pollen infested spring biome! Even still, being above the ground was still rather nice… except they managed to run into a treasure hunt. One that had led them to the desert first and now, the next step was to go BACK UNDERGROUND.
Yes, Gareth understood why Gardor was so happy about it. Fluffles had clearly not been having a good time in either section of the island and getting the pollen out of the molebear’s fur had been a massive and painful undertaking… but that didn’t mean he actually wanted to go back underground. Still… it was the best decision. So he had to suck it up and just go along with things to keep his best chance at winning. Gardor and Fluffes had proven themselves useful in combat multiple times already and it would feel bad to break things up because of this. It wasn’t really Fluffles or Gardor’s fault.
Gareth glanced over to where Gardor was currently whistling as they descended deeper through this cave. Ok, it was a little Gardor’s fault. *Still, I suppose I can’t really blame him. We seem to find our best rewards underground. I don’t know if Thyme just seriously bumped up the rate of rewards for the underground area, or if we were just unlucky in following the paths that other people have already cleaned out. I Hopefully this treasure hunt will lead us quickly into another area. Maybe Winter? That would probably be alright for everyone.*
