D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad - Chapter 1999 A Shattered Moment

Chapter 1999: Chapter 1999 A Shattered Moment
— Kat —
Lily spotted the change immediately. Treant and Harold had settled into a stalemate with neither gaining the upper hand… visibly anyway. Harold was sweating a bit but that might have just been from the exertion. His spells certainly hadn’t slowed down. Treant on the other hand, had allowed her attacks to slow… but it was in a more casual way. Every attack she launched hit now, or was a secondary attack to allow for the primary one to go through. She was used to the fight now.
Which might have been the signal for someone to come in and ruin it all. Two someone’s in fact. Two individuals bound in cloth with a belt filled with daggers were exiting the hole in the spatial tunnel and looked to be ready to jump Treant. Me or you?
[What?]
*Do you want to stop these two, or shall I? I’d rather it be me but that would mean we give up on watching the people in the other room.*
[Dammit you’re right… but there are plenty of shadows in the room. I think I can make sure to remain hidden.]
*Alright. I’ll trust you. Good luck.*
The quick back and forth between Kat and Lily was long enough for the figures to exit the tunnel properly. Lily couldn’t see them with her eyes, and Treant likely couldn’t either. Kat only had grainy vision of them, but at least the truesight part of her eyes still worked when she didn’t have any.
Even with no visibility, Treant clearly reacted to the two, tensing her legs and getting ready to move at the same time as two shadow hands reached up around the assassins gripping them tightly. “WHAT!” shouted Harold on seeing the hands.
Treant and the assassins reacted at the same time. One assassin spat liquid right at Treant, a liquid that was blocked by a thick vine serving as attack and defence. Though whatever had been in the first assassins mouth was toxic enough to melt through the attack before it landed. The second assassin was more concerned with getting free and had cast a wind spell to slice at the air around them, hopefully disrupting the spell binding them in place. It worked.
“Need some help getting it done? I suppose it’s to be expected from you,” sighed Treant as she BACKFLIPPED AWAY. Kat had no idea how the woman managed it in such bulky armour or why she thought it was a good movement option at the moment. Harold sent daggers of space at the flipping Treant to no avail.
Lily used this chance to take him down. His shields were good for blocking thick plant based constructs, but now that Lily was revealing herself… there was no reason to go easy on him. Her shadows were much thinner than a wooden spike and she had a proper sense of where all the seems on the shielding was. He didn’t start a chance.
Lily had expected some sort of resistance from the clothes he was wearing. She’d expected them to be enchanted or for Harold to just… be stronger. Instead, her series of shadow spikes rose up, slid through the gaps and then immediately impaled the man. Lily bit down the urge to throw up. She’d speared him through both lungs, his stomach and neck. She had NOT gone easy on him and had expected at least some resistance. All she got was a surprised gurgling sound before his body went slack.
[WHAT THE FUCK.]
*He clearly wasn’t expecting it.*
[HE’S DEAD]
*Well probably not. He’s likely a time clone, or is one now considering the body is still there.*
[I… I just thought… but… why didn’t he have any protection?]
*Hey, it’s ok to freak out about this sort of stuff. I’m sure it felt quite real, but for now you need to focus on the other two combatants in the room.* In Lily’s shock she had completely let go of the second assassin and now both of them were teaming up against Treant. She was blocking what she could, but the daggers seemed to have some sort of poison on them that was extremely effective on the plants.
Sadly… Lily was still freaking out. Kat really didn’t know how to help her with it either. She’d not freaked out from killing monsters or attacking people before… even in some of the more brutal fights. In fact, the big fight in the underwater round of the previous tournament came to mind. Kat didn’t want to focus exactly on the ’why’ when her mind was so open to Lily at the moment.
Kat was, metaphysically, leaning on Lily’s mind. Smothering it with her presence and trying to help Lily either pull herself together or at least box away the feelings for another time. *I mean… not ideal at all but this is probably the best way to go through this. All things considered.* Lily was, luckily, too deep into her panic for the moment to properly comprehend Kat’s musing, especially when it wasn’t directed at her.
With Lily’s panicking this was not going well for Treant. The poison was acting as a herbicide, quickly eating away at the magical constructions she summoned and slowly eating away at the sturdier ones. The floor that had been covered in a thick carpet of moss was returning to its concrete origins. Attacks were cut down and Treant was starting to wonder what the heck Lily was doing as the help would be, much appreciated.
Treant wasn’t hopeless, she was able to kite the two around the room, keep them out of range… but she had no idea what those daggers would do to her armour. Depending on how the enchantments were made and how alive it was in truth, it could take serious damage and then she’d be fucked. Currently, she was keeping on the move and using the absolute minimum amount of mana and stamina possible, hopeful that Lily would get back in the game soon.
Lily however still wasn’t doing well, her mind was trapped in a loop of wondering where she went wrong. In Kat’s opinion the answer was ’nowhere’ and ’not at all’ but that wasn’t helpful right now because Lily clearly thought there was a problem. She wished she could just go over and kiss her girlfriend but nobody was dying yet and remaining hidden was a bit too useful. If things kept up though… Kat would act. Though… perhaps… even if she couldn’t kiss Lily she could get her out of the spiral.
Kat started to mentally flick through her memories until she found that somewhat recent kiss where she’d bit down a little on Lily’s lip. It wasn’t too scandalous really but it was the furthest they’d gone and Lily had practically melted during the kiss. Kat picked at the memory a bit, basking in the sensations, amplifying her memory of the moment and letting the emotions build…
And then hurling it into Lily’s mind. Lily’s worry spiral of horror immediately shifted to a dopey one filled with embarrassment, love and lust. A great improvement but still not helping the situation. Kat was hesitant to snap her out of it though… just in case she immediately went back into her panic spiral. So for the moment, Kat focused on the fight. Treant was moving well. Every time it looked like she was getting backed into a corner, she would simply launch herself out of it with her powers.
In the most recent instance, she got them good. The assassins had charged right in, not scared of a vine throwing them away… but Treant had summoned something slightly different. Instead of the usual vine throwing her away a big flower bulb rose up under Treant’s feet, exploding with spores and coating the area. The wind assassin got to work blowing it away, but they were already coughing as a few of those spores got into their lungs. Not enough to be a real problem, but enough to slow them down.
The loud hacking coughs was enough for Lily to be brought back to the present… especially as she’d needed to bring up some shadows around her to protect from the spores as well. Steeling herself, Lily started to take control of the shadows throughout the room. She wasn’t ’good’ but she was functional, the horror pushed to the back of her mind. Soon, black tendrils started to harass the assassins. They were moving too fast for a proper grip, but continually nipping at their heels was causing problems for their movement. It left openings.
Ones that, now Treant was confident Lily would remain in the fight, she was willing to go for. When one of the assassins had to drop into a roll to avoid getting impaled by a sharpened wood spike Treant threw, Lily summoned enough shadows to pin the guy to the ground. The wind assassin tried to blow away the bindings, but Treant wasn’t having it. Instead she charged up and shoved a blooming flower into the assassins face, knocking them out.
With just one enemy combatant remaining, the assassin raised both hands and got on the ground. Treant wasted no time knocking them out as well. The enemies were dealt with… for now.
