Chapter 2068: Chapter 2068 Imprisoned Flower Part 4
— Kat —
The flame guard was definitely unconscious, but Kat was starting to think that he was more of a distraction then anything else. A way to keep her busy without forcing an escalation. She thought this because a large platoon of people seemed to be rushing towards them. Based on their speed, they couldn’t have been Rank 2 but something would need to be done about them simply from a numbers perspective.
Luckily, Kat could feel that Lily was nearly finished with her spatial lock picking. It was getting more complicated, and the crowbar shape had shifted more towards dozens of little lines. Through Lily’s mind Kat could tell her girlfriend was holding several different things in place at once to keep it all from collapsing on her. Kat didn’t exactly want to pressure her though. Lily’s mind was already keeping track of about as many things as she could manage. Kat would love to help take some of that processing load into her own mind but Kat had no experience with that, and space was still something she didn’t have the senses for.
Instead, Kat just moved close to Lily and gently let out some of her aura. Just a touch of calming aura to keep her girlfriend from panicking at a crucial time. Kat was also bent over and using her tail to stay in place. Ready to scoop Lily up and leap through the ’door’ as soon as it opened. The guards might not have been Rank 2 but they were getting closer and closer.
Deciding to do something about that, Kat started to lob demonic fire at them. It didn’t really weigh anything, so simply getting the power close to correct and throwing it mentally towards the guards could work pretty well. Kat was going more for scare tactics then real damage. As such, she was using minimal amounts of demonic energy for the volleys, with only the occasional one packing any sort of punch, just to ensure they couldn’t simply accept the damage.
It was working. The platoon was spreading out from their compact formation, allowing individual members to dodge around the flames to keep the pace going. Kat was tempted to start flinging more fireballs or a big flame wall to slow them more but there was a risk she hit one of the greenhouses if she did that and Kat had no idea what demonic fire burning away at spatial protections would do to them. Best not to take that risk.
Kat heard a sort of click that also sounded like someone had decided to scratch a chalkboard, but only for maybe a second before a boom sounded out. Kat’s arm twitched down towards Lily to pick her up… but she could tell that the space wasn’t open. The door was still closed. Kat really wanted to ask if that was meant to happen but her girlfriend currently wasn’t panicking and Kat had no desire to change that by asking. Instead, Kat just kept her calming aura running and didn’t stop the volley.
The platoon was getting closer though, and the archers started to fire on their position. Kat was easily able to deflect them, though it did mean leaving her ready position for grabbing Lily. Instead, she left her tail dangling just beside Lily so she could wrap her girlfriend up in a moments notice. The arrows were all standard things, and the few that even got close to hitting them were easily caught and thrown to the side before they made contact with anything. Not they’d hurt much regardless.
A few mages were looking ready to start casting spells when Kat’s ears felt like they’d vibrated backwards. How that makes sense, Kat didn’t know but Lily also screamed out. [NOW]
Through the link which was a good enough signal. Kat scooped her girlfriend up and leapt for the crack in space. After entering inside all Kat could see was glass. Everywhere she looked was glass. It was as if she’d passed into one of those mirror rooms that seemed to go on forever. It felt like she was being flipped through the air multiple times and across various axis but Lily remained in place and Kat’s tail wasn’t flying all over the place either.
The landing was rough. Kat actually had to bend her knees a bit, and the dirt flooring cracked even with that. The guards inside were ready and waiting, each armed with spears that shoved out towards… Lily specifically. Kat didn’t have time to be gentle with her girlfriend, and flicked her tail upwards like it was a whip, sending Lily spiralling away and up towards the ceiling. At the same time as this happened, Kat wrapped her hands around both spears and tried to rip them from the guards, only to find that her grip wasn’t quite strong enough for that. Cursing the restrictions on her Kat had to duck as the guards in the back turned out to be mages.
Water mages to be specific. Two high pressure bolts of spiralling water slammed into each other, colliding where her head had once been as the spear wielding guards took a proper stab at Kat this time. Kat found she was actually somewhat boxed in. The big bench full of plants in the centre prevented her from moving far enough forward, the guards were on either side and Lily was up above her. Kat then realised she was being stupid. Lily was safe above her, and turning into was a better solution.
Kat transformed right before the spears made contact and split her water form in half. Both sides split up and started to cover the face of the guards, trying to prevent them from breathing. Emphasis on the trying because they didn’t seem concerned at all. No move was made to remove her and instead they seemed to be getting ready to attack Lily who had gone after the mages.
While Kat had been trying and failing to drown two guards, Lily had sent a storm of paper at the mages. The mages tried to raise a shield to defend but they didn’t quite get it up in time. When the water shield did rise around them, plenty of paper had already slipped past. Most pieces hit the armour, slicing surprisingly deep grooves in a few places, but the few ones that manage to make contact with their skin cut thick lines that were bleeding quite significantly.
The spear guards seemed to be reaching for something on their belts so Kat reformed quickly and slammed a fist into each of their faces. Kat felt her fist clang off the helmet, and bounce back into the air. She hadn’t put everything she could into the strikes, wanting them to come out fast more than anything else, but even if the damage was low, it stopped them from grabbing at whatever they were reaching for.
One of the water mages had started the summon up a half shield thing, half tentacle horror that looked ready to both block attacks and fight back. The other mage was sending water into the construct to help keep it active. Perhaps they needed to work together for it. Even still, Lily wasn’t letting up. Paper flowed from her spell sigils attacking the two mages and forcing them to block… but they clearly didn’t have much practice with this fancier defence. What was meant to turn the tide was simply shredded under the onslaught of paper. Wounds were building, even if Kat could tell this was costing Lily quite a lot of mana.
Deciding that she had everything handled, Kat focused back on her own opponents. One was lashing out with his spear, swinging it in a wide horizontal arc while the other seemed to be trying to poke at her with a jab focused towards her legs. Kat grimaced at this but decided to just turn into water to avoid the attack. The weapons sliced through her liquid form, sending water further away then she’d like, but a bit demonic energy to help her reform and all was good.
Deciding it was best to focus on one at a time, Kat turned her back to the guard on the right and summoned her fans. Kat sliced towards the arm of the guard in front of her. He tried to block with his spear but Kat was able to simple force it out of the way with one arm and stab out with her fans using the second. This knocked the spear even further to the side but didn’t do enough damage. At the same time, Kat felt the spear from the guy behind her stab into her back. The muscles stopped it after it pierced skin and Kat could fight through the pain.
Stabbing her closed fan up at the guard’s chin she slammed it home with a ringing sound. Hopefully the guard would be knocked out from that. She could see him falling backwards and Kat decided to focus on the guard that had just stabbed her. Kat turned into water for just a second to free the weapon from her back and turn in place before lashing out with another attack, sending the guard flying back into the table behind him.
