Chapter 2070: Chapter 2070 Imprisoned Flower Part 6
— Kat —
Kat was panicking, along with Lily. Neither of them knew how to heal such a serious wound and Lily was already using her shadows to try and apply some sort of torniquet technique to at least keep the blood loss problem down. The real issue was the fact that Appoline wasn’t able to breath at the moment. Even if Lily was managing to stop Hedera from bleeding out, the blood could still fall back inside Appoline’s body effectively drowning her.
Lily focused on the problem. Trying to carefully coat the inside of Appoline’s throat with shadows to try and keep that from happening but it was tough. Simply sending her shadows into someone’s throat was dangerous. Sending too much was just as liable to choke someone as sending too little and letting the blood in. Lily had been trying to make her fine control better… but that was for far less serious issues. Even just apply a bit too much pressure to the edges of the wound might be deadly at this point.
Kat was quickly ensuring that all of the guards were down and out. If one of them woke up and manage to attack Lily or Appoline right now, Appoline would probably die. Kat wished they had some sort of healing potion or healing ability between the two of them but it just wasn’t something they had. Kat’s mind caught on that thought. She still didn’t know what ability she’d gotten for reaching Rank 4… nor how to activate it. Perhaps…
Kat was about to try for a miracle when Appoline just… stood up. She still looked somewhat smug as she reached behind herself and pulled out a vial of something glowing red. She waved at the shadows around her throat and Lily, reluctantly, removed them. Appoline immediately downed the vial and you could see it spilling down her throat. You could also see a glowing red film start to cover her throat and start pulsing as if blood was running through the entire thing.
A few moments after this Appoline coughed and started to spit out blood and a few bits of skin. This kept up for an uncomfortably long time. It wasn’t a nice sight but even with Kat and Lily hovering around Appoline kept an arm reached out towards them and made shooing gestures to ensure that ensured they remained standing back. Um… so what do we do now?
[Try not to think about where she was storing the potion she just drunk?]
Ok why would you even say that? She was practically naked and I’m sure they’d have checked her for that sort of thing. There really is only two answers and I don’t want to think about either of them.
[Yeah but I already did so now you can suffer alongside me.]
Kat kept herself from rolling her eyes at her girlfriend lest Appoline notice and think it was about her. Luckily, after about a minute Appoline stood up and rubbed at her throat. The membrane of glowing red was still there but she seemed better. At the very least she was no longer spitting up blood. “HA! Take that you assholes,” hissed Appoline as she kicked the nearest guard. “Thought you could take me out like that. I’m the best damn alchemist in this entire fucking city. Couldn’t stop me from brewing a potion even with my hands literally tied behind my back. Fuck you,”
“Um… are you alright?” asked Kat.
Appoline whipped her head around to Kat, seemingly just now remember she was there. “Oh, right. I was sort of ignoring you both. Thanks for the save, and for not being a pussy about it. As you can see, I DID have a plan for if they tried to kill me. Not a great one, but I had a plan. We do have to leave soon though. This isn’t a proper healing potion. It could best be described as a temporary patch.”
Appoline tapped at her neck and it gave way a somewhat worrying amount under the limited force she applied. The whole thing flexed unnaturally… as if the muscles were missing. They probably were now Kat thought about it. “I didn’t have the equipment or the resources to make something that could heal a ripped throat swiftly enough not to have me die in the process. I also only had the one vial on me so I couldn’t make multiple things to keep. Hard storing even that one without crushing it you know?”
“I didn’t know… and I’m still not sure I want to,” muttered Kat before raising her volume. Knowing that Appoline probably did still hear her whispered complaint. “Right but… are you going to be ok until we get you out? We’ve got a bunch of guards around the greenhouse because it was guarded a bit too well for us to just sneak past them all,” admitted Kat.
Appoline sighed, “Yeah expected it was something like that. This patch should last me about… three hours? Which sounds nice but it will take me at least an hour to make either a second patch or something more likely to heal me so unless you’ve got a healer lined up you’ve got closer to two hours. Should still be plenty of time.”
Kat nodded, “Once we get you out of the compound it shouldn’t be too hard to get you to someone that can help. We have… options.”
“Oh?” intoned Appoline. “What are those options anyway? I might be grateful for the save but if you think I’d be happy to go from one cage to another you’ll be quite disappointed.”
Kat sighed, “Well… you’re probably not going to be happy with either option…”
“Just tell me. Stop trying to turn this into a reluctant thing. You’ve already made the choice to rescue me. Let me make the choice about how to take that information,” grumbled Appoline.
“Right… well… Lin is the one who asked us to free you-” began Kat.
“Oh that bitch. Continued,” hissed Appoline.
“But the guard captain Steel does know that we’re here to help you out. Lily and I,” Kat gestured towards Lily. “Sort of work with him and we didn’t want to break into someone’s home for no reason. So he also knows. Plus… well…” Kat debated on if she should admit what had happened to Appoline… but she looked like she’d been down here for too long to be involved in the madness from the other night. So taking a chance. “Someone pretending to be you poisoned a good chunk of the city. It’s still poisoned and they’d like your help cleaning it up. How much that’s a request and an order…” Kat shrugged.
“Of fucking course it’d be like that,” sighed Appoline. “And what do you think? What’s better for me? I know that you can’t lie but can be tricky with your wording so keep it simple.”
“Um…” Kat glanced at Lily who just glanced back at her. Not even given a response over the link. “Going with the guards is going to be a mess because a lot of people still think you were responsible even if we know it was an imposter. You are famous for your poisons… and it’s going to be a whole thing. If you get healed by them, you’re also probably going to be held in custody for at least a bit and forced to help clean up the issue. Though probably paid if they can prove it wasn’t you?”
“As for Lin… well it’s Lin. I feel like that’s the best explanation I can give you and that you’re familiar enough with her to understand what I mean,” explained Kat.
Appoline ran a hand down past her face but nodded. “You’re right, I do know enough of what she’s like to accept that as an answer… but considering your own admittance of working with the guards that means you probably asked some follow up questions. What reason did she give you for trying to save me?”
“To lord it over you… basically ass long as she can,” admitted Kat. Not really feeling any inclination to keep Lin’s words a secret… for a number of reasons.
“Hmm… we’ll have to see how quickly that gets annoying,” grumbled Appoline as she started to pinch and prod at her temporary throat. Kat wasn’t sure that was the best thing for its structural integrity but she had no idea how it was made, or if this really was a problem. It was still weird to watch though. “All well and good to say I can put up with it for decades if I need to… but not sure how true that is.
“I’m also not sure how I feel about going to her for healing in general. Even if she’d allow me to essentially ’hide out’ with her, the healing would definitely cost extra. Oh, surely just an extra potion or two here and there… but with Lin well,” Appoline nodded towards Kat who sighed but nodded.
“See, you get it. I’ll have to think on this… but we’ll need to get moving, at least to the upper levels of the greenhouse. I’ll see if I can come up with any good poisons,” mumbled Appoline.
“Can I ask that they be non-lethal?” requested Kat.
“Oh, you can ASK,” grinned Appoline.
Kat sighed, “Yeah about what I expected…”
