D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad - Chapter 2118 Slow Rot

Chapter 2118: Chapter 2118 Slow Rot
— Kat —
So it turned out Bruce also hadn’t realised that Kat would be willing to come along. Though based on the smug looks Furen gave everyone through her bandages, it seemed she did. With it established that Kat was willing to help, at least for the fighting the monster part, it was decided that they’d continue on. Kat wasn’t entirely sure why. She wasn’t planning on helping them find whatever they were looking for afterwards… but she suspected Chisel at least would try to sneak away at some point.
Well that or he expected he could grab the loot and sneak away with it. Or perhaps that they’d be able to ensure she allowed them to get away, or perhaps just made the delivery? Chisel seemed fine with going to jail or dying as long as his wife got the money so… perhaps it was something like that?
Regardless, they were moving again. It was a slightly odd formation. Kat was at the front, ready to charge at the monster as it appeared, if it appeared anyway. Chisel was directly behind her. He had the best chance at fighting and seemed happy to have direct access to her back. Perhaps he thought stabbing her would take her out? Kat didn’t care. The sword wasn’t anything special. Lily could tell that much.
Furen was next. She was still in a decent amount of pain, wasn’t likely to do much fighting unless things got dire, and generally needed to be protected a good deal. Which was why Lily was directly behind her. It meant Lily could see and respond to any attacks aimed at the elf. Plus, she could keep an eye on Chisel if that’s what it came down to.
Tanisha was obviously directly behind Lily, still being carried though it seemed that for now at least she was probably fine. Being down an arm was an issue sure, but it wasn’t really bleeding anymore. The ice had frozen it long enough for the rest to scab over… apparently without getting frostbite? Kat was just going to put that down to magic and the fact she was Rank 1 or something. It didn’t seem worth worrying about.
Finally, in last place was Bruce. He could also be trusted to fight if push came to shove. Tanisha trusted him… even if she was facing him, and because Tanisha was being carried by Lily, it meant her shadows were still right next to him in case he needed help. This way, it meant that everyone could be assisted without issue. Mostly by Lily, but the simply fact of the matter was that, with the band restricting her, Lily could move to help a lot faster then Kat could, so it was for the best.
Plus, Kat really did feel the need to be out in front. For all the little ambushes they’d had, the real combat always seemed to come in the larger rooms where they had space to move. It was an… odd choice really. The monster seemed like it could contort all it wanted into whatever shape was needed… assuming there was just the one. What reason could it have for picking such spaces? Kat pondered this as she slammed a demonic fire covered fist into the nearby wall as a paw reached out of it to scratch at her.
“So… why is Furen still bandaged like that when you said you had medical supplies? That you might need to use?” asked Kat.
“It’s because that’s what she looks like AFTER we used a bunch. We’ve only got basic healing potions and some pastes that encourage healing properly in a certain area. They can only get so much done at once before they lose effectiveness. Which is annoying because they’re also best on newly opened wounds. We used what we could to stop her bleeding out, now we’re waiting for her to hopefully be fine, or to get to the point where we have to just accept the loss of supplies to keep her alive,” explained Chisel.
“What was the difference between Furen’s injuries and Tanisha’s then?” asked Kat.
“You… you DID see her when she still had an arm yes?” asked Chisel. To which Kat of course, nodded. “Her arm was completely destroyed. It was closer to a fine paste then it was to a functioning limb. Cutting it off was the right call… and honestly we probably could have done so, and then used the potions to heal up the stump enough to stop her bleeding out… but it wasn’t something I was keen to suggest.”
“Fair,” admitted Tanisha. “I’m also not sure anyone is really strong enough to slice it cleanly the way Kat managed. Probably would’ve done a lot of damage to my shoulder if you’d made the attempt.”
Chisel nodded, “Well that and I didn’t trust her afterwards, but I suppose that was obvious,”
“Yeah a little bit. I’ll be wanting my sword back if we survive this by the way,” agreed Tanisha.
“If it ain’t confiscated by the guard, sure,” agreed Chisel with a shrug as he stomped a heavy boot into the ground. Slamming a stone closed on what looked to have been a human hand. The crunch of bone was a bit off-putting considering the topic, but it was soon goop like a lot of the rest.
Lily had a question for Kat to ask after seeing it, “By the way, do you know why that happens? What causes some of it to turn to goop?”
“I was thinking that, fancy as this thing looks, it’s some sort of advanced slime,” admitted Bruce.
“Could be,” agreed Chisel. “I was thinking that the extra parts are just clones of some sort, or perhaps, extensions of a central body part. Like, it can cut off a hand, grow a fake body around that, but only the hand is real.”
“Still slime like. Just with a variable core,” countered Brue.
“Suppose so. Could always just be a damage limit. While it’s still trying to mimic a real thing it bleeds. Maybe it has to,” offered Chisel.
Kat turned a corner and the monster jumped out as she did so. It was in full form… but at this point it had trained her reactions to the point where she didn’t even need to think about it. Kat gripped the thing around the neck it had. It was currently trying to look like a werewolf but with slug legs and simply slamming its face up into the low ceiling while blasting it with demonic fire worked wonderfully to destroy it.
Kat sighed as she smashed her way through the debris to continue to walk forward. *Is it trying to wear us down or something? It’s barely even scary anymore.*
[If I had to guess? Yes. I think this whole setup was intended for people weaker then us with the idea that these constant attacks would put someone on edge… but even the scarier ones like the big… whatever that was. It can still be taken out by one shot. Imagine if you needed to fight it in such a cramped space. Thyme did say a lot of this was all pre-planned so… perhaps even these attacks were planned in advance. At this point its hard to imagine the monster is a real one.]
*I guess. I just don’t know how on edge I should be. I barely need to think about it anymore when I strike back at these things. Should I be worried about that part? Some of them are shockingly human looking. I’d hate for someone to place a hand on my shoulder and I slice it off thinking it’s an attack.*
[A fair worry… not sure what we can really do about it. Perhaps we weren’t meant to find the rest of the group so quickly?]
*Eh it took us a while…*
[Right but the monster was constantly attacking us as we got closer and closer to them. Sure the attacks are a bit more dangerous now, not to us, but in general. Perhaps it was meant to be more of a horror experience?]
*Possible… but is that something we can count on?*
[Are we counting on it though? I’m just suggesting what might be the reason for all the lacklustre attacks from out perspective. You did ask what I thought, and I answered. It’s still just a best guess though.] Lily didn’t even need to pause to command her shadows. A body dropped from the ceiling, looking like a corpse had fallen down. Several shadow spikes stabbing directly through it and there was goop raining down on them. [Ok that’s actually annoying.] Lily hissed as she formed a small umbrella around herself and Tanisha to stop the goop landing on them.
As the rest of the group, minus Kat, went to remove the goop, several limbs burst from the walls to strike at them. Kat cut into as many as she could but her reach was only so long. Chisel managed to recover and attack, but the rest had to be handled by Lily. Furen and Bruce weren’t really able to respond in time due to their lack of perpetration.
*Ok that was a good trick. Gross, but a good trick.*
