Desolate Devouring Art - Chapter 1320 - Inner Demon Erupts

Chapter 1320 – Inner Demon Erupts
The nether clan had already anticipated this possibility. The Darkness Heart, brimming with spirituality, would surely try to escape.
The Darkness Heart throbbed violently, releasing a boundless tide of darkness law that easily shattered the nether clan’s restraints.
Right at that moment, the ghost clan finally moved. They formed a giant net that dropped over the Darkness Heart, and the nether clan seized the opening to unleash an even more powerful force that enveloped the entire Grand Dark Canyon.
This way, the black skull could no longer flee. As the nether clan moved to retrieve the Darkness Heart, a new force tore through the spatial resistance, even though seals locked the surrounding space.
After refining the Witch Wheel Blade, Liu Wuxie’s Great Spatial Mythical Art had reached a new height. He could not only restrict space but also alter its trajectory.
The Darkness Heart jolted and slipped out of the net, and no one could comprehend how. The ghost clan’s net remained intact, yet the Darkness Heart still managed to escape.
Without any hesitation, Liu Wuxie summoned the Sky Devouring Divine Cauldron and swallowed the Darkness Heart.
“It’s Liu Wuxie!” The faceless clan stationed around the area turned to a massive boulder in the distance and watched a figure come into view. The moment they saw Liu Wuxie, their murderous intent erupted.
He had slaughtered far too many faceless clans over the past few months.
“Liu Wuxie, you’re courting death!” roared the members of the ghost clan. Among the four clans, they were the angriest; their feud with him had become irreconcilable.
Nearly a thousand nether clans charged at Liu Wuxie, unleashing a force that swept forward like a tidal wave.
“Run!” With so many experts around, Liu Wuxie didn’t hesitate. If he were to stay and fight head-on, death would be his only outcome. The faceless clan could harass his primordial spirit, and with close to a thousand nether clans present, their combined strength could kill even ordinary cultivators at the Void Realm.
Liu Wuxie exploded into motion and shot into the sky before the ghost clan’s attacks could reach him. He cast the Great Spatial Mythical Art to suppress all oncoming strikes.
“After him! Don’t let him get away!” the nether clan roared in unison and rushed up in pursuit.
In less than ten breaths, Liu Wuxie returned to the surface. It had taken him fifteen minutes to descend, yet only ten breaths to return, as he relied on the profundity of the Great Spatial Mythical Art.
“Leave at once!” he yelled once he reached A’Lei’s shoulder. The two giants sprinted at full speed to escape the area. They used the surrounding darkness to shake off the nether clan’s pursuit. If the surroundings had been clear and well-lit like the previous levels, escaping would have been even more troublesome.
“Brother Liu, did you succeed?” A’Lei asked, unable to hide his excitement. Whenever he took a step, he would cover over three hundred meters of distance. In the blink of an eye, they were already hundreds of miles away.
The nether clan could only eat their dust; they weren’t as fast as the giants.
Liu Wuxie nodded in response. Even he felt a surge of excitement at having obtained the Darkness Heart.
“Stop chasing after him. Alert the other nether clans to seal off the entrance to the seventh level and all the way back to the fifth level. We’ll trap him on this level,” said the leader of the nether clan. As long as Liu Wuxie remained on the sixth level, they would be able to track him down.
A’Lei moved to enter the seventh level, but he realized that the members of the nether clan crowded the entrance. He had no choice but to return.
“The nether clan should have occupied the entrance to the seventh level by now. Let’s find somewhere safe first,” Liu Wuxie said. He looked into the distance and saw people jamming the entrance.
For now, they remained trapped on the sixth level.
“There are many mountains and trees over there. It will be easy for us to hide,” A’Lei said, pointing toward the distant cluster of mountains.
“Very well,” Liu Wuxie replied.
Time was running short, and the nether clan would soon begin a sweeping search. If he wanted to survive on the sixth level, he had to make a breakthrough into the Primal Origin Realm as soon as possible. With no time left, he summoned the demonic flame and wrapped the Darkness Heart with it.
A terrifying wave of dark-attribute energy swept from him, making Vanya flinch in discomfort. She immediately jumped from A’Lei’s shoulder to A’Li’s. After all, darkness was the nemesis of the elven race, and her face turned pale with fright upon getting hit by the wave of dark-attribute energy.
After running for about fifteen minutes, the group of four finally entered a massive mountain range.
“Over there!” Liu Wuxie yelled, pointing to a cliff surrounded on three sides with only one entrance. The spot was perfect for setting up a spiritual array. Vanya could hold the ground on her own, while the two giants could stand guard on either side of the entrance.
“Vanya, set up a spiritual array,” Liu Wuxie said, leaving it to her because he had no time to waste.
He handed over the required materials, and with A’Lei and A’Li’s help, they swiftly set up the Icebound Expanse Array. Only he could afford the luxury of using one million astral stones for a spiritual array.
Sitting beneath the cliff wall, Liu Wuxie circulated the Desolate Devouring Art. Hundreds of thousands of Pure Yang Pills detonated, converting into energy that flowed into the desolate world. He planned to use the Darkness Heart to make a breakthrough into the Primal Origin Realm and could not afford any mistakes.
Countless astral stones detonated as well; true essence gathered so densely that it nearly spilled out.
Meanwhile, the Darkness Heart thrashed within the Sky Devouring Divine Cauldron, but the Demonic Purgatory Chains bound it, preventing its escape. He could even refine laws at the Earth Immortal Realm, let alone the Darkness Heart.
The commotion could be heard from afar, and the members of the nether clans began moving in Liu Wuxie’s direction.
The entire sixth level descended into chaos. Fortunately, there weren’t many humans here, and the disturbance didn’t trigger an even greater chaos.
As boundless dark-attribute energy poured into Liu Wuxie, the desolate world suddenly turned pitch-black. This was the power of darkness: it could throw an entire world into night, and the light laws he possessed were too weak to balance it.
The inner demon lurking in his heart began to stir, and the pill was no longer enough to suppress it.
After setting up the spiritual array, Vanya stayed close to guard him. She watched as black lines crawled over his face, twisting his features into something horrifying.
“An inner demon! Big Brother Liu’s inner demon is breaking out!” Vanya exclaimed. She had read many books, including illustrations of how humans looked once their inner demons had erupted.
Liu Wuxie’s current appearance matched the descriptions perfectly, and the inner demon had begun invading his soul sea.
A’Lei and A’Li stood by anxiously, but there was nothing they could do to help. The inner demon was a person’s dark, evil side. It shared the original body’s thoughts and possessed all of the original body’s abilities.
“Hahaha! What a rich dark-attribute energy! I’m finally going to awaken!” The inner demon’s laughter echoed from Liu Wuxie’s soul sea. It had manifested as a miniature black figure resembling Liu Wuxie.
“Suppress!” Liu Wuxie commanded. The Heavenly Dao Book released dazzling radiance that crushed down on the black figure.
“Close!” The black figure also possessed Liu Wuxie’s will and memories, which meant it could control the Heavenly Dao Book as well.
The Heavenly Dao Book instantly snapped shut, and the golden radiance vanished. The two clashed back and forth, neither side willing to yield. Liu Wuxie knew that if he yielded, the inner demon would walk out of his heart, and the consequences would be unimaginable.
“Hahaha! It’s useless! As long as I absorb the Darkness Heart, I will be able to call forth more dark-attribute energy and become this continent’s owner!” The inner demon’s voice tried to persuade Liu Wuxie to give up all resistance.
“You’re too noisy!” Liu Wuxie murmured. The demonic flame continued to burn, eager to refine the Darkness Heart before the inner demon fully awakened.
He expected the inner demon to awaken, but he hadn’t expected it to awaken so soon. The pill’s power could no longer suppress it. The seal loosened, and black threads began coursing through his meridians.
More black runes appeared all over him, rendering him terrifying to behold. Above his head, black mists converged into a fearsome face that mirrored his own.
Liu Wuxie grappled with the inner demon. He knew that if he took a single step back, he would fall into a bottomless abyss with no return. The inner demon knew his body just as well as him, and it struck precisely where he was weakest.
With the members of the nether clan outside and the inner demon within, the situation turned even more unfavorable. He gradually lost sensation in his hands as the inner demon started taking control over his body.
The dark-attribute energy was too dense on the sixth level, making it ideal for the inner demon’s growth.
A black fog also spread across Liu Wuxie’s soul sea. The Soul Fire didn’t react, as the inner demon could still be considered a part of him.
“If the heart is as clear and pure as ice, even if the sky collapses, one is not afraid.”
“Amid ten thousand changes, one remains steady; the spirit is joyful and the breath is pure.”
“The void has no window, nothing at all can be grasped; all is seamless and without form.”
“Where there is no arising of appearances, nothing can come into being.”
Vanya began chanting the elven race’s Heart-Calming Mantra and the Great Purification Magic, which were capable of neutralizing the inner demon, in hopes of helping Liu Wuxie.
However, her level of mastery over it was too low, and she hadn’t grasped the mantra’s full profundity.
If a cultivator wanted to resolve their inner demon, they had to cultivate the Great Inner Demon Mythical Art or use their will to defeat it thoroughly. However, the higher their cultivation, the stronger their inner demon would become.
Liu Wuxie had killed and devoured countless people; their resentment and cursed energy gnawed at him. This was the backlash from using the Cursed Dao Art without the Curse Physique. From the very beginning, he never had the aptitude to practice the Great Cursed Mythical Art.
A gentle light enveloped Liu Wuxie, and the Heart-Calming Mantra took effect the moment it sank into him.
“Stop chanting! Stop!” The inner demon screamed in agony. It writhed and clutched its head. Every word of the Heart-Calming Mantra seemed to be laced with power that made it suffer.
“Vanya, don’t stop!” Liu Wuxie called out.
Vanya had no idea if it would work and had tried only out of desperation. Upon hearing Liu Wuxie, she sped up, her tone of voice becoming stronger.
The Heart-Calming Mantra couldn’t kill the inner demon, but it could strip away its resistance and suppress it.
Cold sweat ran down Liu Wuxie’s back; that was close. The inner demon had begun taking over his body and would soon occupy his soul sea.
Even if it couldn’t seize complete control of his consciousness, he would end up like the grandmaster—himself during the day and the inner demon during the night.
The Heart-Calming Mantra formed chains that burrowed into Liu Wuxie and bound the inner demon. Its pained scream weakened before it sank into the depths of his heart, where Liu Wuxie formed hand signs to seal it completely, giving it no chance to rise again.
