Desolate Devouring Art - Chapter 989 - Void Realm

Chapter 989 – Void Realm
Time began to fade, and the massive vortex condensed into a single point of light and devoured the surrounding space.
“Burn your blood essence!”
Yuan Zilong and Luan Tianzhi ignited theirs before barely breaking free from the vortex’s suction force.
Although they managed to break free, the memory of the battle carved an indelible mark into their dao hearts. From this day forward, Liu Wuxie would haunt them for eternity, a nightmare they could never overcome.
Liang Yi knew he was finished when the light point shrank in size.
“No!”
The massive vortex shrank into a single speck, which would mean their death. The vortex reduced everything around it to a void, leaving Liu Wuxie hovering alone.
“Save Brother Liu!” Qiao Bian roared, desperate to rush over and save Liu Wuxie.
When the surrounding space vanished, the Heaven-Curtaining Red Luan shrank. Everyone watched as Liu Wuxie began to sink, falling into it and disappearing.
“NO!” Han Feizi and the others let out anguished cries.
If Liu Wuxie fell into the Heaven-Curtaining Red Luan, he would vanish into the abyss forever, with no chance of return unless he could break through the spatial barrier. But the odds were close to zero.
Countless years had passed since the Heaven-Curtaining Red Luan had last appeared, but no one had ever returned from the end of the world. They had all vanished, swallowed by the ends of the universe.
Perhaps due to the battle, the Heaven-Curtaining Red Luan had begun accelerating. If everyone didn’t leave now, they would all be buried here.
“We must leave now!”
Just as Liu Wuxie had predicted, no one sensed anything when the structure first began to collapse, but when it finally gave way, the impact shook the world.
Qiao Bian grabbed Han Feizi and darted toward safety.
Shock froze Liu Feng and the others in place, and they even forgot to weep. They stood still and watched the Heaven-Curtaining Red Luan approaching.
“What are you all waiting for? Leave now!” Qiao Bian roared. To stay meant certain death.
“You all leave. We’ll stay behind to accompany our junior brother so that he won’t be alone on the road ahead,” Jiang Le replied with a wry smile, declining Qiao Bian’s good intentions.
“Wuxie, Big Brother is coming to join you,” Liu Feng said with a sorrowful smile, stepping toward the Heaven-Curtaining Red Luan.
“Fools! What do you think Brother Wuxie did all that for? He did everything to ensure all of you survive, not throw your lives away with him!” Qiao Bian roared.
If they all died there, wouldn’t it mean Liu Wuxie’s sacrifice was in vain?
If their deaths could bring Liu Wuxie back, Qiao Bian wouldn’t have stopped them from throwing their lives away. But that wasn’t the case, and there was no need for more deaths.
Before Liu Wuxie embraced his fate in death, he had entrusted the others to Qiao Bian and Han Feizi to ensure they got out alive. It was Qiao Bian’s principle to keep his promise.
Since he had promised Liu Wuxie to get them to safety, he would ensure it was done.
Liu Feng halted. What Qiao Bian said was right. Who would avenge Liu Wuxie if they died here?
Yuan Zilong and Luan Tianzhi weren’t dead, and their respective sects and clans had escorted them out.
“Brother Qiao, thank you for your reminder. I will survive, and I will avenge Wuxie. I will kill the last member of the Yuan Clan, the Wang Clan, the Profound Cloud Sect, and the Scarlet Dragon Cult,” Liu Feng said with his teeth gritted.
He had to live to take revenge and bury all of Liu Wuxie’s enemies. Only by living could he bring comfort to Liu Wuxie’s soul.
Liu Feng’s words struck deeply, and Jiang Le and the others stopped in their tracks. Dying was easy; living was the real agony. They still had so much to do, and they couldn’t allow their junior brother to die in vain.
“Junior Brother, what Senior Brother Liu said is right. We have to keep on living to avenge your death. We’ll come find you and share wine with you again once we complete our mission,” Jiang Le said as he took out a dagger to carve a deep gash into his arm, taking a blood oath.
“I swear!”
“I swear!” Shen Rong and Yu Zhibai also took out daggers and carved deep gashes into their arms.
They swore to avenge their brother before seeking him in death. They didn’t forget that their lives belonged to Liu Wuxie, and they would’ve long died in the underground world otherwise.
“Junior Brother, forgive me that I can’t join you, at least not yet,” Jiang Le said, bearing the agony as he left with his two junior brothers.
The Heaven-Curtaining Red Luan was nearly upon them, and they would die if they didn’t leave now.
Looking at their backs, Qiao Bian let out a long sigh. He could tell that vengeance was the only thing that kept them going, and they would lose their will to live once they avenged Liu Wuxie.
Han Feizi watched silently, fists clenched. He wasn’t just thinking about revenge; his mind was burdened with countless thoughts.
Fiery walked over to Gu Yu and lay at his feet, two tears sliding down its face. As Gu Yu possessed the dragon clan’s bloodline, they had forged a close relationship and were always joking around.
“Fiery, I believe that Brother Liu isn’t dead. Do you believe it, too?” Gu Yu wiped the tears off his cheeks and smiled.
Fiery nodded in silent agreement.
Strangely, Lu Liang and the other assassins remained still. The faith force anchoring their minds still lingered, proving Liu Wuxie was not dead, at least not yet.
Their loyalties were with Liu Wuxie, and they didn’t know what to do after Liu Wuxie fell into the Heaven-Curtaining Red Luan. They could only follow the crowd and head toward the exit.
Han Feizi didn’t stop the four from leaving.
Everyone traveled for three days before they reached the exit.
Yuan Zilong and Luan Tianzhi were long gone, and most of the cultivators in the sacred ground had fled, knowing that this world was doomed.
The group passed through the spatial rift and returned to the outer world. Each of them carried a heavy heart as they watched the sacred ground collapse.
“Did you hear that Liu Wuxie died in the sacred ground?”
Word of Liu Wuxie’s fate had already spread far and wide. Some cultivators lingered and discussed what had happened inside the sacred ground.
“What a pity for a prodigy to be gone just like that.”
Many sympathized, but the majority rejoiced. Liu Wuxie had stirred resentment after claiming so many treasures, and his fall brought satisfaction to many, especially the disciples of the Profound Cloud Sect, the Scarlet Dragon Cult, the Yuan Clan, and the Wang Clan.
Some didn’t know what had happened and were shocked to hear how Liu Wuxie had faced several experts at the Earth Profound Realm by himself.
Yet, no matter how gifted someone was, they were quickly forgotten in death.
The crowd began to disperse after the entrance to the sacred ground had collapsed completely. From this day forward, the sacred ground would no longer exist.
……
Liu Wuxie felt like the Annihilation Fist had hollowed out his entire body. The Annihilation Fist utterly drained his true essence and laws, just like when he had used it to fight Sheng Lie of the Profound Cloud Gate, leaving him unconscious.
Though he wouldn’t lose consciousness after refining the immortal rune, the scorching pain within his body was unbearable. But thanks to the Divine Thunder Physique, his life was in no danger aside from the pain.
The desolate world was a vast stretch of ruins, his true essence utterly depleted.
In the final moment, Liu Wuxie could feel that the Annihilation Fist’s power was several dozen times stronger than before.
Liu Wuxie began to circulate the Desolate Devouring Art to devour all the spiritual energy in the surroundings. But the surrounding spiritual energy thinned to the point he could barely feel it.
“Supreme-grade spirit stones!”
That was the first thing that came to Liu Wuxie’s mind.
He immediately tossed many supreme-grade spirit stones into the Sky Devouring Divine Cauldron, where the cauldron dissolved them into spiritual energy and poured it into the desolate world.
He only felt a slight relief in his battered body when the true essence began to generate in the desolate world.
Once he finished, he swept his gaze across the surroundings, but all he saw was a vast void. The void realm held no laws, time, light, or darkness.
“This is the primal state of the world, and laws haven’t yet formed. This must be the void realm,” Liu Wuxie muttered.
Anyone else in his place would’ve panicked by now. But Liu Wuxie showed no sign of anxiety and maintained his composure. He could keep an unshakable state of mind no matter where he went.
“The sacred ground is likely gone now. I should still be in the sacred ground, but the collapse of space had already torn the sacred ground apart. If I can tear through the void realm, I should be able to find my way back.”
Liu Wuxie began thinking of possible solutions while he healed his body. He even tried the Spatial Dao Art, but it had no effect because there was no space to manipulate there.
As his strength gradually returned, his scope of movement increased. He drifted like a feather as he wandered around in this gray world. Gravity vanished entirely, and he couldn’t even sense his own weight.
Time passed slowly and imperceptibly.
If he couldn’t find a way back soon, he would be lost for eternity until death. The thought terrified him as endless darkness shrouded the void realm, and perhaps the world needed billions of years to form its laws again.
However, Liu Wuxie wouldn’t live to see that day.
As his true essence recovered, Liu Wuxie could barely adjust his body now, and he found a comfortable angle to get a better view of this world. Everything he saw appeared gray, and white gaseous bodies floated across the sky that seemed to be the primal aura in its rawest state.
“Wait… why is it white?” Liu Wuxie muttered, eyes narrowing as he noticed something wrong.
He looked in disbelief as clusters of white gaseous bodies appeared in the gray world. They writhed, clearly trying to break free from this world.
Like him, they, too, were trapped in the void realm. The discovery left Liu Wuxie stunned.
