Diary of a Dead Wizard - Chapter 680: Black Tide

Saul had originally been concentrating on channeling magic power into his palms.
He was conducting an experiment.
If successful, a fourth-rank spell Fear Backlash would be transformed into a fifth-rank spell.
It would also be the first fifth-rank spell he mastered after entering third-rank.
Previously, he had always separately sealed pollution absorbed from others for experiments, but afterward, he could use this pollution as a kind of bomb to deploy.
Causing double damage to enemies’ souls and bodies!
It was just that each attack required severing his palm. Even though Saul could transform into an octopus monster, severing palms was still self-harming magic, the kind of ultimate move that needed to kill in one strike.
But just when everything was progressing smoothly and the diary gave no warnings whatsoever, Saul suddenly discovered that the magic power in his body was no longer obedient.
Originally, after successfully opening doors, the amount of magic power flowing in and out of his body was consistent, achieving a strange balance. As long as Saul circulated magic power according to predetermined magical runes without releasing it externally, magic power would continuously flow into his hands and condense into rings.
But now, magic power was automatically transmitting toward Saul’s head, as if there was some force there that extremely attracted magic power.Even Saul’s own attempts to halt this abnormal power transmission had failed.
Breaking free from the mystical feeling of having just opened his body’s doors, Saul discovered that several black spots had somehow appeared on his body.
These black spots were nothing other than Black Tide pollution, which he was all too familiar with.
“Could it be that magic power went out of control, causing the pollution on my hands to spread to other parts of my body?”
But when Saul examined his hands again, he found that the Black Tide pollution on his fingertips was still properly sealed.
At this moment, large amounts of magic power wrapped with Black Tide pollution had already entered Saul’s brain.
He immediately saw the world before him lose all color, becoming a deathly black, white, and gray.
The pollution in his body was already “battering” the gates of his spirit, and Saul resisted with difficulty.
Yet the diary in his consciousness body still showed no reaction whatsoever.
“Could the diary think that pollution entering my spiritual body won’t cause me to die or mutate?”
Complete wizard mutation meant becoming a monster—even if the flesh lived, the person themselves would be considered dead.
The diary acknowledged this point too.
“Could it think this accident won’t bring me bad results, so it doesn’t even give crisis warnings?”
Saul was somewhat panicked, but he tried hard to calm himself down, still using mental power to resist the pollution’s entry.
Regardless of whether the diary warned him or not, he couldn’t possibly truly allow such large amounts of pollution to enter his spiritual body.
But that powerful pollution appearing from who knows where continued to assault Saul’s soul along with the large amounts of magic power provided by the external formation.
Like an invisible giant hand, bit by bit pushing open the soul that Saul was desperately trying to keep closed.
A drop of cold sweat slid down Saul’s temple and dripped onto his collar.
“Hiss—”
As if a water drop had fallen on red-hot metal, black smoke instantly rose.
And this was just the beginning.
Saul’s entire body suddenly began sweating profusely, like a lemon thrown into a press.
The crusher fell, and with a “pop,” all the moisture in his body gushed out.
Soon, the lemon would be left with only shriveled skin.
Along with the sweat, or rather the liquid from his body, large amounts of black smoke rose from Saul’s body.
At the same time, such an obvious signal forced the surrounding observers to believe.
A Storm Eye had truly appeared on Saul!
Many people were puzzled and shocked—why would a Storm Eye that had clearly been sealed months ago appear again in a different location?
Some were stunned into stupor, but others reacted immediately.
Corey suddenly sent a bright signal into the sky, then a rich scent of grass after rain appeared around her.
This fragrance quickly dispersed, and everyone who smelled it felt their rationality regain dominance.
Fear of the Storm Eye seemed covered by a layer of mist—though they knew it was still there, it was no longer so clear, so they had the rationality to do other things.
“Everyone listen to my command. It’s just a Storm Eye appearing again. Since we could seal it once, we can seal it a second time!”
Most wizards surrounding the formation were sent by the Stargate Council, so they would naturally follow Corey’s commands.
Other wizards, seeing that although Corey wasn’t the strongest person present, she could immediately organize over a hundred wizards, were also willing to cooperate with her.
But some disagreed.
Brando almost immediately mounted his pegasus and appeared near the high platform where Corey stood.
“Your Excellency! Wizard Saul is still at the Storm Eye’s location. If you organize people to seal the Storm Eye now, are you planning to seal Wizard Saul along with it?”
Seeing the direction Brando came from, Corey knew he was Saul’s friend or subordinate.
She replied quickly and rationally, “Saul’s position completely overlaps with the Storm Eye. Based on our last experience, he’s already been polluted by the Storm Eye and has minimal chance of survival. Moreover, this Storm Eye appeared suddenly—we have no time to delay. We must seal it quickly, or Black Tide will appear. When that happens, everyone here will be the first batch of victims.”
Corey thought she had clearly explained the pros and cons in brief words, but unexpectedly, Brando acted as if he were deaf and wasn’t persuaded at all.
He merely looked at Corey with contempt a few times and said coldly, “You’re afraid of death—I’m not! If you won’t save him, I will!”
He pulled the reins and returned to Jiajia Gu’s side.
Although Jiajia Gu hadn’t been beside the two, he had already heard their conversation using an ear-shaped magical tool.
He immediately said to those around him, “Others won’t go save Saul. We can only figure out a way ourselves.”
Brando jumped down from his pegasus. “We also need to watch out for others interfering—not everyone would be happy to see Saul alive.”
At this moment, Pei’er from another direction suddenly landed beside everyone.
Surprisingly, she hadn’t gone to help arrange the Ice Lock formation to seal the Storm Eye!
Pei’er didn’t explain much. She just said hurriedly, “Saul’s friend Byron has already charged in. I can sense Byron’s mental power.”
“Then should we also go in to save him?” Ed, a first-rank wizard who had once been treated by Saul, suggested. “With so many of us going in, we should be able to bring Saul out.”
But Pei’er immediately rejected this proposal.
“No, the pollution inside is already spreading. Byron can hold on because his spiritual body is special. If you enter, you’ll probably be polluted before you even get close.”
Jiajia Gu was the most clever. He immediately slapped his thigh. “We can’t go in, but Byron went in, so now we need to figure out how to bring out Byron, who still has his sanity, along with Saul!”
Pei’er hadn’t expected this half-body merchant to be the first to understand her meaning and quickly nodded. “Yes. I can use wind to send things in and should be able to pull people out, but…”
Brando puffed out his chest. “I have a spare body that can hold both of them!”
After the others discussed briefly, Ed stepped forward, “My parasites combined with Mordy’s metal lead can make rope.”
In just a few sentences, a quite direct rescue plan took shape.
However, events developed completely beyond everyone’s expectations.
While Corey organized personnel to arrange the Ice Lock formation at the fastest speed;
While Pei’er and Brando’s group began working together to save people;
While Firefly Lord Herbert coldly looked down at the busy crowd;
While Saul’s consciousness bodies kept calling to their master in the formation’s center with no response…
“Crash————”
A tremendous sound again interrupted everyone’s actions.
Everyone involuntarily looked toward where the Storm Eye was located.
Then, countless pairs of eyes witnessed black tidal waters gushing forth from the black mist!
A massive tsunami, carrying suffocating momentum, like the pouring of an entire ocean’s worth of black waves!
Moving seas and filling mountains!
