Diary of a Dead Wizard - Chapter 788: The Angry Water God

Nathan ended up last among the three.
He believed the instructor could definitely save little Mina, but didn’t know what method he would use.
Mina was just an ordinary person who had been transformed by magical potions and experiments into that state… Though Nathan hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, from Paul’s description, he could guess Mina’s current appearance must be very tragic.
Even if Saul could rescue her, could she really return to a normal person’s life afterward?
Paul had always protected his daughter so carefully, but in the end might still have to let this little girl witness the cruelty and horror of the wizarding world prematurely.
Thinking this, Nathan slowly entered the room that was sweet on the outside but sinister within.
Then he saw Paul, who had rushed in first, standing stunned at the doorway, while Nero, who followed closely behind, had his mouth agape as if seeing something terrifying.
“Sure enough… little Mina can’t go back.”
Nathan took a deep breath, preparing himself mentally before taking the final step and looking into the room.
He first saw the back of a little girl.It should be Mina.
She wore a red dress, the same as when she was kidnapped, though the red color seemed deeper than before.
Then Nathan saw that while Mina’s head no longer had wounds, where her ears should have been was a pair of white wings.
The wings weren’t large, like dove wings, but looked softer in texture, like cotton.
“Mi… Mina?” Paul finally came to his senses, gently calling the girl’s name.
He carefully adjusted his facial expression, ensuring that when Mina turned around, no matter what she looked like, his expression wouldn’t change.
The little girl who had been standing quietly trembled at the shoulders and quickly turned around.
Her black shoulder-length hair danced and leaped, tracing joyful arcs.
The white wings that had replaced her ears flapped “whoosh whoosh,” like a puppy’s wagging tail.
“Daddy!”
Mina’s eyes widened with joy as she spread her arms and rushed toward Paul.
Seeing Mina whose face showed no other changes except for her ears, Paul grinned excitedly and hugged his daughter tightly, constantly kissing her hair.
Nathan stepped aside around Paul and Mina to enter the room, seeing Saul standing opposite a large water tank.
“Instructor,” he said softly. “Thank you for the trouble.”
“No trouble.” Saul pointed at the water tank before him. “Move this tank to my residence. Be careful not to touch whatever’s inside.”
Nathan hadn’t expected to immediately become manual labor upon arriving, but he was still quite happy that Saul was willing to let him work.
The more useful he was to Saul, the longer this master-student relationship might last.
“Yes, instructor!” Nathan didn’t bother asking about Mina’s condition and immediately cast a levitation spell, lifting the water tank that was almost the size of a single bed.
“You,” Saul then directed Nero, “clean this place up. Tomorrow go report to the Academy of Practice that Wizard Parin’s experiment failed and he was polluted and mutated.”
Nero nodded repeatedly.
He was very willing to help—after all, this was a second-rank wizard’s laboratory where any random magical material was valuable.
Even if Saul might take the most valuable parts, what remained would still be an unexpected windfall for Nero.
“Paul, bring Mina and follow me.”
Saul called Paul and Mina to leave the room directly.
Whether it was Nathan moving the water tank or Nero cleaning the room, both stopped their work and stood respectfully, watching Saul leave.
When Mina was carried away by Paul, she finally noticed Nero and Nathan, waving her little hands goodbye to them.
Seeing that Mina’s temperament seemed unaffected and she remained as well-behaved and cute as before, even Nathan couldn’t help but show a relaxed smile.
However, his smile had only half-bloomed when it froze in place.
When the little girl waved at them, the two wings on her head also waved, as if the little girl had two extra hands.
But looking more carefully, those weren’t wings at all—they were clearly two paper-white palms gently waving at them.
As if someone was about to… grow out of little Mina’s head.
…
Saul once again came to the “deep sea.”
“Prepare yourself. In three weeks, I’ll create an explosion opportunity for you. But whether this explosion can trigger a tsunami depends on your own efforts.”
Water God Floco was silent for a moment. “With only two months of preparation, isn’t this too rushed?”
To escape, he had already struggled for over a hundred years. This cooperation with Saul was because Saul could use his special ability to trap the curses released by the deep sea in one corner of the seabed. When the accumulated curse power reached a certain amount, it could generate powerful internal pressure.
If operated properly, this internal pressure could become an explosion at the right moment, releasing enormous energy to bring Floco, who was suppressed at the seabed, to the surface.
Even if he couldn’t reach the surface in one go, as long as he escaped the deep sea, the seal’s power would weaken, and Floco could rely on his currently recovered strength to break free.
But this pressure had only been accumulating for two months. Although Floco had already made great efforts to prevent the curse from exploding prematurely and had persevered through difficulty, he still felt it wasn’t time.
At minimum, they should accumulate power for a year before considering explosive energy!
“You can still wait, but I don’t have time.” Saul shook his head with a rueful smile. “Originally I thought I could stay here for half a year.”
“Half a year would work too.”
“But in fact, in one month I’ll conduct an experiment. Before this experiment, Ophelia might discover my secret of helping you escape while preparing. She’s currently using your original advancement method to attempt advancing to fifth-rank wizard!”
The white cat remained seated, but his swishing tail betrayed his surprise.
“After all these years, someone still wants to use my method to advance.” Then he shook his head with a smile. “I’m afraid she’s thinking too optimistically.”
Saul’s expression shifted. “What, you think she can’t succeed?”
“I called myself Water God because my bloodline was naturally extremely compatible with water elements. I once told you I belong to the Azure Scale Clan—this is actually what we call ourselves. The outside world often calls us the mermaid race based on our appearance.”
Mermaid race?
Saul looked up sharply but didn’t immediately interrupt Floco.
“When I advanced, most of the mermaid race had already left this world. And your human race actually cannot replace your entire body with water elemental particles like I can.”
“It seems Ophelia’s advancement path won’t be smooth. But are you certain the mermaid race has all left this wizard world? I just heard that large numbers of mermaids live in the offshore areas of a certain continent.”
“What?” Floco was very surprised. “How is that possible? This world’s water elemental particles are no longer pure. Even if mermaids remained here, reproduction would be very difficult. How could there be large numbers of mermaids?”
In Saul’s consciousness space, he could manifest the surface form of any object.
Saul didn’t argue much and directly raised his hand, creating a three-dimensional projection beside him.
The projection was extremely clear, agile and fierce—exactly the mermaid Saul had seen in Wizard Parin’s laboratory.
But the moment Floco saw the mermaid’s appearance, all his cat fur stood on end!
“Which damned bastard turned the mermaid race into this?!”
