Dual Cultivation God Returns - Chapter 969 - 969: A 'valuable' piece of advice

It was Wu Long who chose to sit on a second-floor terrace of a wine house when they were going through the covered market.
At the time, neither the twins nor Zhao Biren understood why he suddenly changed plans and led them there.
For some time it seemed like it was just an excuse to sit with Hong Ye on his lap and flirt with her as not much else was happening except for a casual conversation with Hong Yue who, at the time, sat next to them while Zhao Biren was quietly drinking off to the side, just like a guide who waited for his clients.
But as the scene between Changsun Yong and his pursuers unfolded, they quickly realized Wu Long noticed the well-hidden group with a rather odd pairing of Righteous Path and Evil Path cultivators right away.
While the events played out in the street below, Wu Long’s group stayed relatively unnoticed, observing everything with some interest, but neither Hong Yue, nor Zhao Biren could predict that Wu Long would choose to get directly involved, especially after his words about the Protective Formation in this place, which, for them sounded like he didn’t want to stir up or get dragged into trouble.
Only Hong Ye knew the moment it all started that Wu Long’s intervention was highly likely, which is why she was the only one out of them who wasn’t caught off-guard when it happened.
And while Hong Yue adjusted fast, since she experienced him meddling in affairs of total strangers before, Zhao Biren who froze while raising his drinking gourd to take a sip maintained that shock for quite a bit of time.
The reaction of the people around and below varied. Most spectators, for example, displayed a mixture of caution and interest.
The Elder of a Righteous Path Sect, despite the content of the words spoken by Wu Long, inwardly breathed a sigh of relief.
Wu Long’s interference stopped the momentum of the growing unrest amid the crowd, cooling off the situation by refocusing at least a significant portion of attention away from the box in Changsun Yong’s hand to himself.
It also gave the Elder a much needed moment to calm down and collect his thoughts. An opportunity to wrestle the control of both pace and direction of the situation away from Changsun Yong.
The latter also understood this, after all the earlier volatile atmosphere wasn’t an accident, he knew exactly what he was doing by deliberately overwhelming the Elder with questions and provocations right after the initial move to reveal the box, in order to not give him time to think and force to act reactionally while fueling the interest of the crowd to the box itself – he also knew how important the momentum was for him to succeed. Thus, Changsun Yong’s grim initial reaction to Wu Long’s involvement was in response to the very fact Wu Long interfered at all, not the contents of what he actually said.
“Hahaha, don’t you know? At times, just putting a sword in the hands of one’s enemy can make you an enemy as well”, the Elder seized the moment to speak, pouncing at this golden opportunity like a starving beast seeing an easy prey. His expression and tone were extremely friendly which was partly an act, and partly almost genuine since he saw the masked stranger as an unwitting savior, “It is not wise to get involved in disputes of others, especially in these kinds of places”
“Whether it’s wise or not really depends on the situation”, Wu Long shrugged his shoulders.
This initial exchange caused Changsun Yong to clench his teeth in frustration as the atmosphere rapidly shifted back to a tense stalemate with verbal exchanges again, only the actors changed.
The Elder, on the other hand, could not believe his luck as he could tell from Wu Long’s physical aura that he was quite young, thinking, ‘How convenient, I’d much rather deal with this clueless greenhorn than an out-of-control mob. Heavenly Daos have definitely blessed me with luck today’
His mind did linger on the two Bahshi Assassins who were with the masked man – not only it was rare to see them nowadays, but they were also a formidable threat – however once he assessed the masked man was only a Mortal Transcendence Realm cultivator, he dismissed any lingering worries.
After a short pause during which the Elder looked at Wu Long with a gaze that was hard to fully interpret, but certainly included a bit of amusement, he then spoke, “You seem to lack experience, so allow this old timer to give you a valuable piece of advice – in cultivation world, there are people you can’t afford to say a wrong word to, let alone offend…”
“If I ever meet one, I’ll be sure to remember your advice”, Wu Long chuckled before the Elder could finish speaking.
This reply, coupled with a thoroughly entertained giggle from Hong Ye still sitting on Wu Long’s lap, instantly and completely wiped the amusement from the Elder’s face.
He still needed to carefully navigate the overall situation, so he held in the urge to immediately punish this insolent youngster with a swift attack, but whatever scraps of warm feelings he held before for this useful idiot for helping him out of a dangerous situation were now completely gone.
“A sharp tongue… but then again recklessness born out of shortsightedness is an aspect of youth, it may prove fatal to you one day if you don’t learn to reign it in, but luckily for you I am an Elder of the Righteous Path and don’t quibble with juniors over such puny details. I just hope you’re not forgetting where you are right now”, the Elder took this chance to remind not only Wu Long, but more importantly the crowd that they started this trouble here despite the rules, meaning they had arrangements in place with those whose word was the law.
Changsun Yong clenched his teeth from frustration, as the exact factor he tried to use in his defense – which was so easily deflected before – was now used by the other side to seemingly great success.
This also made a second attempt to stir up trouble with the crowd much harder – after all, it was precisely the lack of awareness about possible consequences and impulsiveness of the spectators that he was counting on, which were now sobered up by this reminder of the fact this was the Crow King’s Nest.
Wu Long, however, merely slightly tilted his head, and despite the mask on his face, or perhaps because of it, this gesture gave an incredibly precise message – the impression he gave off was an utter dismissal of the Elder’s cautionary words.
