The faint outline resembled the face of a death god. If this section were to leave the pyramid mountain, it would infect the whole world.
“Who are you?” It opened its eyes capable of reaping souls.
“A passerby.” Li Qiye smiled.
“You’ve strayed from it then.” The face was not interested.
“This path is rather unpleasant.” Li Qiye smiled.
“As long as you do not provoke me, you may pass.” The face said, seemingly indifferent to everything.
No matter how powerful Li Qiye was or his purpose, the guy was already dead.
“What if I wish to flatten this path?” Li Qiye asked.
“How have I obstructed you?” The face asked after a brief silence.
“You tell me.” Li Qiye responded.
The face seemed to be thinking for quite a while without any emotion. It eventually said: “It appears I have not, you can go on your way.”
“I have friends who have died here.” Li Qiye said.
“I see.” The face said: “All I can say is that it’s a shame, I never tried to hurt anyone.”
Thunder was surprised to hear the weak response from this mighty being.
“Just a shame?” Li Qiye remarked.
“Yes.” The face said: “The heaven does not permit my existence and grinds me down until my essences spill everywhere. None of this is intentional on my part. Those who died were merely chasing their own dreams, satisfying their fantasies within my illusions. They couldn’t distinguish reality from illusion and offered themselves to me. I did not force them to do so, it was not a trap either.”
“The excuse sounds somewhat reasonable.” Li Qiye rubbed his chin.
“It is the truth. They did fuel life for me but I played no part in this. Thus, I take no responsibility.” The face said.
The bear and the emperor had personally experienced this. Sure, Xian Shen never appeared during their ordeal. The illusions were a reflection of their heart and desires.
In the end, they became lost in it because they had grown accustomed to the illusions. Even if they knew the truth, all of their desires were satisfied. Not all could free themselves at that point since the experience felt so real.
“The fault is not yours.” Li Qiye said.
“So is this path acceptable or not?” The face asked.
“I still have issues with it.” Li Qiye smirked.
“And why is that? Does it have anything to do with me?” The face asked.
“Perhaps it has something to do with me.” Li Qiye said.
“I see.” The face stared intensely at Li Qiye before remarking: “You are incredibly powerful.”
“Yes, powerful enough to do whatever I want against you.” Li Qiye admitted.
“Right.” The face said: “But I’m already dead.”
What was more terrifying than death? The dead didn’t care for anything else.
“Yet you still seek life.” Li Qiye nodded.
The face took a while before responding: “You wish to take Heaventrove Mountain? It doesn’t seem to be useful for someone as strong as you.”
“Not very useful, but I can still take it.” Li Qiye said.
“I see, what you wish is to take away my attempt at life.” The face said.
“Hey, when you put it like that, it makes me sound like an unreasonable tyrant while you’re a pitiful victim. Are you truly innocent?” Li Qiye said.
“Not innocent, but why do you want to stop me?” The face asked.
“Not quite. It’s just that what you’re doing is impossible, your struggle is meaningless.” Li Qiye said.
“Meaning means nothing to the dead like me.” The face said.
“That’s actually a good point.” Li Qiye chuckled.
“But I suppose there is meaning in my unchanging will to live again.” The face said.
“Mmm, sure.” Li Qiye nodded.
“And this bothers you somehow?” The face asked.
“Not me. However, I can tell you this, the villainous heaven will never let you come back to life. When you were alive, you could defy the heaven. There’s nothing left to defy with after death.” Li Qiye said.
“I don’t have anything else to do since I’m dead.” The face said.
“There are other things worth doing still.” Li Qiye said.
“My only wish is life.” The face insisted.
