Chapter 850: Black Pegasus Chaos Realm
—
Urek used a ship to traverse the great distance between the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm and the Black Pegasus Realm.
He could’ve gone there without it, but using a ship saves him time and energy.
As the ship went on autopilot, Urek kept his eyes peeled. He’s searching trails and signs of demonic activity.
Although he could scarcely believe that the Demon Race managed to stage a comeback and dominate the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm, he wanted to be prepared just in case.
Still, nothing was confirmed just yet. Everything he knows remains mere speculation for now. And that’s exactly the reason why he’s going in there on his own.
He cloaked the entire ship in a mirage that hid it from everybody’s senses.
Urek’s skill at illusions had received a generous boost after he began studying law essences. Now, you’d hardly find people who couldn’t be fooled by his smokes and mirrors. This was the main source of his confidence and the reason why he was brave enough to venture out on his own.
And while he didn’t see any obvious signs of demonic activity, there’s this foreboding feeling deep within him.
Now, Urek wasn’t well versed in divination at all. In fact, he hardly recognize the concept as a whole. No, this foreboding feeling was an instinct he had honed throughout his entire life.
Urek had learned when to and not to trust it. And right now, he was trusting it.
’Something’s up at the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm. I could almost feel it in my bones,’ he mused inwardly as the ship continued its course.
And after days of travelling, he finally saw the traces of the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm’s Dimensional Gap.
But even from out here, he could already feel it.
’What a strong and invasive fluctuation of Infernal Energy.’ Urek’s eyes narrowed.
That deep and murky strand of energy—one that is very much confirmed to be Infernal Energy—was leaking out of the Dimensional Gap in waves.
They were so dense that they almost had faces: snarling and growling ones with bloodied teeth.
’Have they really staged a comeback? ’
’Was the Demon Race now the Sovereign Race of the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm? ’
These were his questions that needed answering.
Of course, Urek wasn’t stupid enough to just recklessly barge in. He had no idea what kind of sensors they placed around the dimensional gap and what kind of resistance he’d meet on the way.
More importantly, he’s not here on official business. He’s an intruder, for lack of a better word. A spy of humans, despite their ignorance about what’s happening here.
Urek doesn’t want to start a realm war, especially one that The Horde could take advantage of.
That’s why he draped extra layers of protection and charms all over the ship to make it practically non-existent in all ways. It was only after this that he controlled the ship forward to pierce through the veil that is the Dimensional Gap.
And much to his relief, he didn’t trip any alarms or traps. He safely infiltrated their land without being caught red-handed.
To be fair, there wasn’t much to evade in the first place. At least that’s the first impression he got. It seems like either demons are bad when it comes to warding off invaders or they simply didn’t give it too much thought.
Just a few pieces of traps and alarms here and there, and they’re golden.
Still, Urek crept in slowly. He kept his eyes peeled for any traps, alarms, etc. He didn’t want to be caught now that he had managed to come this far.
And he wasn’t. Caught, that is.
Eventually, he passed through their defensive line and reached the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm proper without alarming anybody.
And he should’ve expected it already, since infernal energy was quite literally already leaking out of the entire chaos realm, but arriving inside just confirmed it even more.
’Oh, hell! They’ve infected everything! ’
The infernal energy quite literally raged all over the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm. It was so bad that, wherever he looked, all he saw was the deep, murky, and snarling weaves of infernal energy.
See, the thing is, what makes demons terrifying isn’t their physique, their magic, or their intelligence. It’s the infernal energy itself.
Infernal Energy is hostile to all life. It corrupts, stains, and overwrites someone’s identity until they become a raging lunatic that desires to slaughter everything that dared to move.
Everybody infected by Infernal Energy will eventually turn into demons, it’s only a matter of time.
One’s demonization could be slowed down by resisting the influence of infernal energy through sheer willpower. The stronger one’s willpower was, the harder it was for infernal energy to corrupt them.
Unfortunately, some people see this as an invitation or a test. Thinking that so long as they possess enough willpower to resist, the wonders of what infernal energy could do would automatically bend to their fingertips.
Spoilers. It’s not.
In fact, seeing it that way makes one more susceptible to demonic corruption. The moment you start thinking that you can control infernal energy will be the very same moment you’re already corrupted.
It only gets worse from there.
Infernal energy doesn’t cooperate. It dominates. It doesn’t accept resistance, but one could coexist with it—this is the only way to be ’safe’ with infernal energy.
Accept it wholeheartedly. Don’t resist its desire to transform you into a demon. And if luck was on your side, you may just be lucky enough to be spared from it wiping your sanity.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that infernal energy is alive. It has a purpose—and that is to taint everything that is untainted.
A lot of humans fell victim to this, turning into demons themselves. Humans have spent so many years and sacrificed so many people just to discover a proper way to counter it. They succeeded in the end, and that’s how they managed to wipe out demons within the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm.
The Horde, on the other hand, had no problem with this. Most bugs aren’t ’smart’ enough to be corrupted anyway, and for those who could, the hive mind protects them from becoming a raving bug.
Besides, the Horde consumes everything in their way, and, unfortunately for demons, this includes infernal energy and them. The Horde had never been picky eaters.
That is how the Heavenly Star and Crimson Womb Chaos Realm were able to free themselves from the corruptive force of the infernal energy.
However, it does seem that the creatures of the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm weren’t so lucky themselves.
’How did it become so bad? ’ Urek was puzzled.
He’s not one to underestimate demons, but it was so shocking to see the sight before him. By all means, there weren’t many demons left alive after humans developed a counter for their main strength.
There were only tens of thousands who got away, and rumor has it that a few didn’t even make it all the way to the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm.
The citizens of this realm shouldn’t be ignorant of what the Demon Race could do, so how did it turn out like this? It’s so weird.
’Alright, Urek,’ he mused to himself, ’Be careful now. Keep investigating, but make sure to be completely hidden. Wouldn’t want to poke the hornet’s nest now, would we? ’
A wise decision, indeed.
And thus, Urek piloted the ship to go deeper into the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm to see if he could get more information than the ones he already saw.
He looked around, and at literally the first planet he laid his eyes on, he could immediately see a sea of demons crawling about.
The majority of them were deranged, corrupted to the very core by the Infernal Energy they breathe. All they knew to do was to kill, and kill, and kill, nothing else.
Most of them didn’t even bother with weapons; just their claws and bare bodies were enough. If they’re lucky, they’d get enough downtime to make something with the bones of the dead demons around them, but with how deranged everybody was? There’s a slim chance of that happening.
The worst part is that the dead demons don’t stay dead for long. The infernal energy had a way of reviving them in its own cruel and twisted way. The more deaths one experiences, the deeper and more corrupted they become.
It’s a never-ending cycle of slaughter. Blood flooded the planet, bodies stacked up high like mountains, and infernal energy became thicker and thicker, making things worse than they already were.
Urek didn’t dwell for too long. The sight before him made his skin crawl. This was the worst part about demons. Once the fighting begins, it doesn’t end. And with how thick infernal energy was here? There will be no shortage of revivals, which means the fight will never end either.
Just looking at them was enough to make him uncomfortable.
And don’t forget, this was literally the first world he saw since he entered this place.
If it’s already this bad here? Urek shudders to imagine just what kind of sight was waiting for him deeper.
