Chapter 862: Condemnation of the Demon Race
—
The setup took longer than he initially expected. About a year more, according to his estimations.
Cedric didn’t dwell too much on that, though. It’s his fault for being distracted anyway, which caused the delay.
The delay wasn’t really that harmful to his goal. It’s just that—a delay, nothing more, nothing less. The distraction came from the unexpected sights and places along the way, which sometimes forced him to pause and reconsider his methods. He had to make adjustments on the fly, but the end goal remained the same.
Still, that’s behind him now.
Now, he stood at the center of the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm without anybody knowing. His eyes were closed as he double-checked the sword scars he left behind.
The distance his sensory field covers is still not enough to cover an entire chaos realm. It’s about half, but that’s more than enough. Besides, he doesn’t need to cover every sword scar to know where they are. He remembers where he left them, sure that he left them there and they still existed, and felt them responding to him.
That was more than enough for his purpose.
“Well, you demons had a good run,” he muttered softly as he opened his eyes. “Time for you all to disappear.”
An ordinary-looking sword appeared in his hand, and after a deep breath, he pointed it to the sky and declared,
“Demon Slaying Grand Universe Sword Formation, start!”
A beam of light erupted from the tip of his sword, which shot up to the sky. At the peak of its flight, it burst into sparks like fireworks, releasing a signal that sprung the grand sword formation to become active.
Piercing sounds woke up the entirety of the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm. The sword scars that Cedric left behind began releasing a strong brilliance, creating a beam of light that shot up to the sky.
All of them lit up the entire chaos realm, much to the shock and horror of the demons.
The light formed a network of connecting lines that swiftly covered the entire chaos realm into a massive formation that sealed them in. The emergence of this formation and its movement was so abrupt and surprising that nobody, not even Irma himself, was able to react, much less stop it.
Cedric was no longer hiding his presence, which allowed Irma to locate him.
“WHO ARE YOU!!” Irma bellowed as he arrived armed to the teeth. He was snarling in madness and deep-seated terror.
He wasn’t so dumb that he couldn’t catch on. The fact that his entire realm was now covered in this massive formation means that this intruder had been here for a long while. And not once were they alarmed by his presence.
This intruder waltzed into his home, walked among them, saw everything, and had enough time and leisure to plant this massive formation, all without them knowing he was doing it.
All of this points out to this intruder being someone that they can’t easily mess with.
That said, Irma could also sense the mounting crisis around him. Anybody who could create such a massive formation, one that could cover up an entire chaos realm, under their noses was no simple man.
Irma had no idea what this man wanted to do, but it couldn’t be good if this was his opening move.
“Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.” Cedric clicked his tongue and shook his head. “You should’ve stayed at home. If you did, you could’ve died in peace in your bed.”
The fact that this intruder was speaking a demonic language flew over Irma’s head. He’s more concerned with the mounting dread he felt from the formation around them.
It’s in this moment that he finally realized that he wasn’t looking at a demon. The man before him was a human through and through. Not a single speck of infernal energy was able to go near him, much less corrupt him.
He stood there as if the world owed him its movement. That this entire chaos realm existed because he permitted it too.
Horror flooded Irma’s veins. He had no idea who this guy was, but he’s sure that he wasn’t one of the Human Sovereigns he knew.
A horrible idea sprouted in his mind then: “Did humans give birth to another sovereign-level powerhouse that quickly?” ’
Then, he realized that he’s wasting time by gawking at the man. He also realized that he could ask questions later. Right now, his main task is to take down this human and interrogate him. If not, kill him before this grand trap kills them all.
And so, he moved. He released a war cry that not only signalled his attack but also his minions.
They charged at the unknown human before them, who was still serenely standing there.
Unfortunately, much to Irma’s horror, he realized that no matter how quickly they flew forward, none of them were able to actually approach them.
Irma’s pupils shrank as he realized, “Grand Space Laws!?”
Cedric chuckled. He could correct that notion, but he decided not to.
“The dead has no right to know,” he told him. “Seriously, stop wasting your efforts. Just stand there and make peace with your death. It won’t be long before that happens, anyway.”
“Arrogant human!” Irma bellowed, braving through his mounting dread. “With just you? You can’t possibly annihilate all of us alone!”
“Oh, but I already have.” Cedric smiled a little as he said this, “It’s already over for you.”
Before Irma could respond to that, the formation covering the whole realm thrummed alive and released a sharpness that brought terror and dread to all demons.
Infernal energy screeched in alarm and existential dread as most of the demons suddenly collapsed to the ground as if the strings that controlled them were snipped by invisible scissors. Shortly after that, they turned into dust, which was then scattered by the wind.
90% of the demon population, poof! Gone, just like that. They didn’t even leave a body for the infernal energy to resurrect or reanimate. They just…disappeared, wiped out from existence, just like that.
“No! No! That’s…that’s impossible!” Irma screamed in denial.
But how could he possibly deny this? He, as the one they hailed as their god, was connected to all of them. The threads that represent his connection and superiority over his kind just promptly vanished with one pulse from the formation.
This was something he couldn’t deny. No matter how hard he tried, how desperately he clung to the fading threads that connected him to them, he was ultimately unable to hold onto them. The threads slipped through his fingers like they were never there to begin with.
That’s all of his army and his citizens, gone, just like that.
None of them were even able to muster any form of resistance. Even Irma himself was helpless against it.
His face drained of color as he stared at the serenely looking human before him. Oh, how misleading his appearance is now after what just happened.
In Irma’s eyes, this human was far more terrifying than the Human Sovereigns he remembers.
At least those guys will allow him and his people to fight back. This man? It’s clear he wasn’t interested in a straightforward clash or struggle. He was determined to wipe them out of existence once and for all.
Swoosh!
Another pulse was released. This time, the sole survivor was Irma.
Nothing else, except despair, was present in both Irma’s mind and heart. Just that, despair.
All of his plans, his carefully woven methods, his grand ambitions, his hope, and the glory he oh-so sought after…all of them, gone.
He couldn’t even fight back. He couldn’t muster up enough strength to breach that invisible distance between them. He wasn’t strong enough or fast enough to break this formation.
Hell, what could he even do alone? Even he didn’t have an idea when this intruder showed up! This intruder wasn’t interested in a straight-up fight. He just wants them gone.
The worst part is, his method works, much to the horror and despair of this so-called Demon God’s successor.
“Well…nice meeting you, I suppose. And goodbye. No reincarnation for you, sadly.” The human spared him some words before the third pulse arrived.
And with that, Irma died with his eyes wide open in terror and despair. Shortly after that, his body dissipated into motes of dust, scattered by the wind and wiped out from existence.
Cedric didn’t celebrate, didn’t cheer, and didn’t yell any profanities. He remained as chill as a breeze. He didn’t feel bad, either. Just indifferent.
The demons are gone, but the problem wasn’t solved just yet. Infernal energy was still around, and so long as it remains, more demons will pop up. Meaning that something must be done to it first before this chaos realm could recover.
And so, with another signal from him, he raised his sword and declared:
“Switch. Grand Universe Purifying Sword Formation, start!”
The same formation that annihilated the demon race turned and changed into something that will now cleanse the corruptive infernal energy from it.
Blinding sword radiance erupted from the center of the chaos realm, and wherever it passed, infernal energy screeched and ’died.’
The whole cleansing process will take a while—years at minimum, decades at max—but it’s worth it.
Infernal energy, used this way, had no right to remain. This formation will not stop until it has fully cleansed the whole chaos realm off of it.
