Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking - Chapter 871: Moving Forward

Chapter 871: Moving Forward
—
The alarm caused by Patricia’s breakthrough rattled everybody who felt it too, just like when it was during Nick’s turn.
It was normal. After all, it’s the origin laws we’re talking about here. Only six people in the current era of humans knew how to achieve it and recognized its presence.
To those who are ignorant about them, this terrifies them more than anything.
And thus, because this was the second time that it has happened, complaints have made their way to the mail of the Human Council HQ, imploring the sovereigns to investigate the source of these terrifying fluctuations. Some of the ancient sects and organizations are even mobilizing their people to investigate on their own.
None of them knew that the sovereigns themselves were the source of the fluctuations that rattled them so.
Of course, the sovereigns have heard their concerns. It’s kind of hard not to since they’ve already anticipated this happening.
“Well, we could just say that we will investigate it,” Urek suggested. “Since nobody should be gaining the acknowledgement of the origin laws anytime soon, people would just gradually forget about it anyway.”
“Yes, that’s what I was thinking too.” Berk nodded in agreement to Urek. “After a decade or so, they won’t bring this up again. We just need to respond and say that we’re doing something about it, and that will be enough.”
“True. It’s not like we could tell them the truth anyway.” Gibson shrugged.
“Well, that’s good and all, but what do we do when it’s time for me or Pat to attempt the actual breakthrough? Could we possibly hide that too?” Nick asked.
And that silenced them.
Nick’s concerns were valid. Very much so, indeed. Especially considering that out of all of them, he was the one closest to making the attempt to break through to the Primal Origin Lifeform Realm.
“Relax, Nick,” Patricia’s calm and serene tone stated. “There’s no need to be too concerned with that. We could just tell them the truth when that happens. It’s not like they could do anything about it anyway.”
The changes with Patricia still made them feel weird. They’re used to her temper and sharp words, not to her being calm and serene like this. It’s like they’re talking to another person entirely.
“If, it turns out, that your breakthrough attempt to the Primal Origin Lifeform actually makes too much noise and alarms those fools, we tell them straight what’s up.”
“Not everything, of course. They don’t have to know all of it. Just the fact that you made an attempt to break through to the final stage of life evolution.”
“If you fail, that’s fine. I’ll make sure you live so you can give another go. And I hardly think that people would protest about that. We might receive complaints, yes, but that’s nothing new to us. We could just ignore it.”
“If you, however, succeed, then it’ll be a celebration that will span out to the entire chaos realm. At that point, what’s there for you to be afraid of? Who would dare to scold you when you’re at the peak? I’d be surprised if they do considering that you could wipe them out with a single glare regardless of the distance,” Patricia concluded before taking a sip of her tea.
“Okay, it’s nice to know that the sharpness of your tongue didn’t disappear along with your temper. That tells us that you’re still good ol’ Pat,” Urek jested with a mock sigh.
Patricia sent him a sharp glare and said, “It’s rude to call a lady ’old,’ you blithering idiot.”
“Well, I’m sorry, young lady!”
“Better.” Patricia rolled her eyes.
And so did Berk before steering the conversation to the proper lane again: “Anyway, Pat’s got a point. In fact, I’d dare say that she’s right. Once either of you are standing at the peak of existence, nobody would dare to throw their weight around you. They’d grovel before your feet and shower you with compliments in hopes you’d allow them to continue existing. So yes, no need to worry about the commotion that might cause, Nick.”
“True,” Gibson hummed, “and even if you fail, so what? We can still be transparent anyway. They’d gloat at you behind our backs, but they’d never dare to do anything so long as we live. That’s the most important part. And if neither of you could do it, then none of them have hopes of making it either. The real smart ones will figure that out, and the status quo will never really change.”
Nick sighed and realized that they’re correct. He’s worried over nothing.
Hell, if they’re truly up to it, they could just reveal that both he and Pat have been acknowledged by Origin Laws.
With their current level of strength, what can they do against them? Even the Bug Empress will have to flee at the sight of them; what more could a bunch of ignorant fools do?
“I guess I’ve been jittery,” Nick admitted. “I think I should relax more.”
“Just take your time, man,” Urek suggested. “No pressure, really. Not from us, at least. Everything’s all good for now, and it’ll stay this way for a long time, so go at it at your own pace.”
That brought a little bit of comfort to Nick. Not a lot, just a little. But it’s comfort nonetheless.
Yes, no pressure…from them, at least. The real source of pressure was within himself.
The more time passes, the closer the fated date comes. So much so that Nick’s getting anxious.
Anybody could tell why. Out of the many who’ve tried before, it’s him who’s got the best chance so far. He has prepared and anticipated that day for far too long that it’s getting to him.
Nick didn’t want to fail. Not his friends, and especially not himself. That’s why he’s stressing about it. And that’s not helping him relax at all, even though his activities should be unwinding his nerves.
He also recognizes his friends’ attempt to make him relax and calm. And he appreciates it; he really does. It’s just that the problem was with him, not with them or others for that matter.
“Don’t fight it, Nick,” Pat offered. “It’s alright. We understand. Everybody would if they knew of your situation as well. Like Urek said, we’ve got time. We’ve already spent millions of years searching for a way forward. We’ve made strides we’ve never thought possible before. Just go with the flow.”
Nick wore a twisted smile before saying, “I’ll try.”
**
Obviously, the ruckus that Patricia made during her breakthrough was known to Cedric as well.
In fact, he felt it even before it happened. He recognized the arrival of the source and already determined what’s going to happen even before others could.
All things considered, Patricia wasn’t too far behind Nick in terms of progress. She might’ve been decades late, but in the life of people like them, that’s hardly a long time. Especially when you consider that they don’t have access to a guide like Cedric does.
He was happy for her, and for them too, actually. With her around, even if Nick were to fail, at least there’d be another person who could stay to guard the chaos realm.
Not that they’d let Nick die if he failed, obviously. But if he failed, being weakened for quite some time was almost guaranteed for him. And if news of that somehow escapes from this place and is heard by the Horde, they won’t hesitate to march towards here again.
With Pat around, they don’t have to be afraid of the Bug Empress. She could force her to flee screeching in terror. Without her, things will be risky. That’s why Cedric was glad that she’s not far behind him.
Cedric wondered if the other human sovereigns will follow suit, though. What of Urek, Berk, and Gibson? Will they receive the acknowledgement of origin laws soon too?
Nick and Pat must’ve already informed them about the Origin Laws long ago, and with his donation of the Divine Cloning Art, those three should be on their way to understanding more law essences too, right?
Cedric wonders how far they’ve come and if they’d catch up soon.
Well, whether that happens or not isn’t really much of his concern now, is it?
It’s not like he relies on them for survival. Hell, he might even be stronger than them as he is now, despite him being just a late-stage Heavenly Venerate.
So, really, he shouldn’t care too much.
Anyway, his concern had always been with himself and his people.
Never mind whether Nick or Pat was close to becoming an Origin Lifeform; Cedric’s focus was on his own progress.
So, peeling his gaze away from the horizon, he transferred it to the manifestations of fire around him that lingered even after he was done meditating.
Manifestations like these occurred on their own around him. It’s the sign of his closer relationship with the Fire Laws, especially now that he’s oh-so-very-close to comprehending the Origin Fire Laws.
The 200 days he spent comprehending the Origin Fire Tablet were truly well spent. Now, it’s just a matter of time before he receives his second origin law acknowledgement.
