Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking - Chapter 873: Origin Fire

Chapter 873: Origin Fire
—
Relative peace and silence returned to the realm after the commotion caused by Patricia’s breakthrough.
As expected, complaints urging the human council to investigate were sent; they’re all the messages the council received for about a month before they started letting up.
The Human Sovereigns told the public that they were already investigating the source of those fluctuations even before their messages came through. They expressed their regrets for not accurately locating its source even after all this time and said that they will continue to investigate and report their findings as soon as they have them.
Of course, that was a blatant lie told with the most solemn and serious face by the Human Sovereigns.
Not everybody believed their excuses; some already guessed that the council was deliberately suppressing whatever that was, and some speculated that it might be a very valuable treasure that they wanted to keep for themselves.
Obviously, their claims and conspiracy theories were promptly ignored. It’s nothing new to the council anyway. Whatever they do, people will talk, conspire, and be dissatisfied with them. It’s always been like that, and they’ve long learned to ignore these comments.
Eventually, they would forget about it. That’s how it has always been with events like these. People’s memory turns bad when it comes to rumors like these. They appear and disappear around the same speed, so there’s really no need to worry about it.
And just like in the past, time has proven this sentiment correct once more.
After a couple of decades, people have completely moved on from these rumors. At least 90% of Heavenly Star’s citizens have completely forgotten about them. Only the real stubborn ones kept holding on to it to no avail, and even they are starting to forget because they keep on being led to dead ends.
As for the Human Sovereigns, they kept doing their thing without any concerns.
Nick and Pat are busy making their final preparations. Nick himself was almost ready to make his attempt for the final breakthrough. Pat, on the other hand, still needs some more time.
While all of this was happening, Cedric also did his thing.
His clone dutifully devoured insights into Fire Laws, comprehending their legal essences like a man starved.
And just last month, he had comprehended the final law essence needed to complete the Origin Fire Law Diagram.
He spent the majority of this past month learning the proper positions of law essences according to the diagram. He learned the proper combinations and reactions to get the results he’d need to finalize it.
Cedric spent a week doing this and managed to fill the diagram according to its requirements. He then felt it settle in his consciousness and in his inner world.
Unlike with the Sword Laws, though. The recognition didn’t happen right away. It’s like the source of origin laws was being delayed by something. But whether that’s true or not, Cedric couldn’t say. All he could do was to patiently wait for it.
That wait lasted for a whole month before he was given a heads-up that it’s coming.
And just like before, Cedric preferred the recognition to happen in the void outside of Heavenly Star’s Dimensional Gap; that way, he wouldn’t scare the old folks who are quite sensitive to concept laws and alarm the Human Sovereigns.
He found a spot where the recognition could begin and waited there.
It didn’t take long before he felt a gaze on him, which stilled his movement. The presence of the origin law source arrived and scrutinized him from head to toe. Cedric kept still, not like he could move under its scrutiny, but he cooperated anyway.
This didn’t take long either. It’s as if the original law source recognized him from the last time and already knew what he’s capable of.
The Origin Fire Law Diagram then appeared above him, spun, and manifested completely in reality.
It gathered enough source energy to do so and turned into a plume of fire that melted into Cedric’s forehead. It burned his skin enough to leave scorch marks that awfully looked like flames.
The marks then covered his forehead, traced his jawline, and ran through his arms, torso, abdomen, pelvis, and back, all the way to his legs. As the marks spread throughout his body, they left a trail of comfortable heat that seeped through his soul.
This sensation was completely different from what it’s like with the Origin Sword Laws.
Maybe because fire is a fundamental law and represents an aspect of Cedric’s personality as well. Maybe it’s because of his familiarity with it, or maybe it’s something else entirely. But this feeling was certainly leagues different than the last time he was recognized by the origin laws.
The scorch marks only stayed for a brief moment before they melted to his skin, disappearing within his body like a retreating tide.
Still, the warmth that they left in his body remained. In fact, Cedric could even say that his body’s temperature will be like this until he learns another origin law or something.
With a long sigh, Cedric opened his eyes and noticed that the origin source law had already retreated; not even a single trace of it was left.
He looked around and smiled wryly to himself after finding out that he’s not standing at the vacuum of space again. The scent of something burnt and a few scattered ashes are all that clued him in to what happened to the landmass he was previously in.
Cedric felt sorry for a bit because he knew he caused this to happen. Flames must’ve erupted from within him during the recognition, and with the quality of his flames, it’s understandable that the island he’s in didn’t stand a chance.
Well, not like anybody would mourn its disappearance. It’s a tiny island that’s floating in the void anyway. It didn’t have anything of value; not even a single speck of life was present in it when he scanned it earlier. That’s why it’s not much of a loss.
Especially when there are literally a couple dozen of similar islands floating about the area too.
With another sigh, Cedric returned him. He burned a hole through space that crossed the great distance between where he previously was and his destination.
Nobody sensed his disappearance and return. Not even the sovereigns themselves. His real strength and abilities remained unknown to everyone aside from himself.
As Cedric planned to relax for a bit, his clone alarmed him of something, which made him raise a brow.
In the Origin Heaven Continent, his clone heard a rhythmic knocking on the door of his humble shelter. He scanned the person outside and discovered that it’s Angelo, whom he hasn’t seen in a while.
He opened the door, greeted him, and invited him inside. Angelo smiled at him, and once he closed the door to get some privacy for the both of them, the man said,
“Congratulations for gaining the acknowledgement of two Origin Laws, Cedric.”
Cedric blinked and was stunned, but only for a bit.
“Thank you. I should’ve expected that you’d know soon,” he admitted.
“Yes. We have our ways.” Angelo smirked.
Cedric wasn’t surprised anymore. The mysterious background of this place remained largely unknown to him. All he could tell is that his methods wouldn’t blindside them.
He also wouldn’t be surprised if Angelo knew that this was just his clone. If they could tell that he’s got the recognition of two origin laws despite it happening to his real body instead of a clone, then it shouldn’t be surprising to know that his secret has been revealed.
“So, does this mean that instead of the mandated trial every 100 years, it’d be every 500 years instead?” He asked.
Angelo curtly nodded to that.
“That’s correct. And it could either be applied now or after you clear or fail the next scheduled trial. It’s up to you.”
Cedric thought for a bit and said, “Say, is it possible to take the trial earlier than that? If it is, then would the spare time be added to the next to accumulate, or would it be voided?”
“To the first question, yes, of course. We won’t stop you from participating in the scenario trial if you truly wish to do so. As for the second question, it’s the latter. Participating means forfeiting the remainder of the mandated time.”
“I see. And what of the scenario trial itself? Should I expect an increase in its difficulty?” Cedric asked.
Angelo shook his head and replied, “The difficulty of the scenario trial depends only on your performance within it. That’s the rule. It wouldn’t change just because of your sudden breakthrough; that would be unfair to many.”
“Good to know.” Cedric sighed in relief and shared a knowing smile with Angelo.
This guy, being connected to the people behind the scenes who ran this place, should know about his ’efficient’ performance in the trial. If Cedric couldn’t keep his main body a secret, there’s no way his less savory methods would escape their eyes. Therefore, he didn’t feel the need to prepare or outright admit his ways.
Just this unsaid understanding between him and the staff was enough.
