Chapter 876: Vacation Ends; Nick’s Ready
—
Nick could definitely say that he’s having a great time exploring the Rising Sun Sector Domain.
Unlike the places he visited in the past, Nick took his time here. Disguised as the poor VIP who’s still deep in his slumber, Nick took joy in visiting all the public areas available to him.
He’s having such a relaxing time that he didn’t even poke his nose where it doesn’t belong. He didn’t prod for secrets, peeked through buildings and lands that are restricted from tourists, and didn’t even raise a brow when he met other species roaming about this place.
Yes, he had seen the demons, but every single one he saw wore collars that not only ensured their loyalty and behavior but also prevented their innate infernal energy from staining the land they walked on. He could also tell that they know their place here and were more than happy with the status quo. They’re well fed, have work, are treated with decent levels of respect, and are able to mingle with the crowd without anybody whispering behind their backs or pointing fingers at them.
Nick was vaguely aware that Cedric had captured demons for labor. He had sensed their presence during their first time visiting this place. He didn’t care much about them, especially after seeing the collars they wore, and he obviously wouldn’t care about them now.
Still, demons are still a rare sight around here, and every single one he saw was working on something or out on an errand. None of them were slacking off because that’s their deal with the Sector Lord. In exchange for protection, security, resources, and land to live in, demons are to offer themselves for manual labor; that’s their agreement.
And every citizen, tourist, or visitor is aware of this. That’s why nobody bats an eye seeing demons walk amongst them.
But they’re not the only ones…
Nick also saw other humanoid creatures here. And if memory serves him right, these should be Cedric’s people—ones that were born and raised in the void prison they escaped from.
He had seen some with bestial parts like claws, fur, manes, etc. He saw some that looked like ghosts, some that were tall, pale, and had sharp ears, some that had one, or an extra, body part that glimmered with gold, some that appeared to be golems, and some that felt like lesser dragons.
According to the tourist guide Nick saw, these were, in order, from the Primal Beast Sect, Holy Spirit Sect, Mystic Fae Sect, Divine Celestial Sect, Ancient Titan Sect, and Wise Dragon Sect.
They are local sects who dabbled in bloodlines, making their features fundamentally different from common human traits. And they are in alliance under the ’Primeval Scarlet Dust Organization.’ Their practices and experimentations with their bloodlines have been stopped by the Sector Lord, so they can’t induct more people into their branches through their old ways. The only way to do that now is through marriage, but even that won’t guarantee conversion.
At least, that’s what the public knows.
Nick knew the truth, of course. These creatures originated from the questionable methods of that madman, Odin, to understand the higher stages of concept laws. He corralled them into a small pocket dimension capable of breeding life and left them there to rot before he got himself killed.
It’s Cedric who broke out of that place first, risked his life to exit the forbidden zone, and asked the Human Sovereigns for a small corner of the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm to relocate them.
Well, he’s given more than what he bargained for. And that had turned out to be a wise investment for the Human Council. If it weren’t for that, the Rising Sun Sector Domain would remain a barren and almost uninhabitable land for humans.
Anyway…
The information about this alliance was, in truth, a fabrication. It’s mixed with lies and truths, making it a perfect blend for others not to question it too much, which allows them to peacefully exist within the territory.
This was, no doubt, Cedric’s own machinations. And Nick wouldn’t be one to condemn him for doing so.
As long as these creatures behave, what’s there to fear? It’s not like they could do anything to the vast might that humanity wields, especially within Heavenly Star. Furthermore, Nick doesn’t see these creatures as irresponsible and wicked for biting the hand that fed them. He could tell that they’re aware of the favors Cedric did for them, and they’re absolutely loyal to him.
So, again, what’s there to be afraid of?
Aside from these ’local sects,’ there are other new sects and organizations here. But even though they’re fairly new, the quality of their facilities, staff, and disciples is no joke and not inferior to the older sects out there.
Origin Energy was thick and dense anywhere he went. The nature and ecology of each world he visited were vivid and vibrant too, making it practically impossible for anybody to starve or be malnourished in this environment. Every child that was born and raised here was active, energetic, and well educated. It doesn’t matter if they were pure humans, hybrids, or from other bloodlines.
So long as they’re recognized as the children of the Rising Sun, they’re loved and cared for.
And through this, Cedric not only ensures the loyalty of his people and the next generation, but he also raises their quality of life and, therefore, the prosperity and longevity of this sector domain.
Of course, not everything is perfect. Despite the strict laws he signed, some of his people are still prone to make mistakes. Cedric can’t just get rid of human flaws when he himself was one, so he could only do his best to minimize their occurrence and hold the sinners accountable.
Still, Nick couldn’t deny that, when it comes to sheer quality of life, beauty, and orderliness, it doesn’t get any better than this.
With what he had seen so far, he could easily declare that the Rising Sun Sector Domain was a model of civilization that every other sector domain should strive for.
It’s truly no wonder why everybody who visited this place leaves with the desire to move here.
Nick could only pity the workers of the office where such invitations go through. He could only imagine how much of a headache they have to go through with those applications.
Hell, Nick himself was tempted to send his own application himself! It would be nice to go here for his vacation from time to time.
And so, for the next few months, Nick lived large and relaxed.
He thoroughly immersed himself in the life of a tourist. Sampling the life of a man with no burdens, no expectations, and no pressure. Just life and living the best there was available.
Through this, he remains unaware that Cedric was watching him in amusement.
Not always. Cedric never developed the habit of stalking people. Just from time to time to check on his activities. At this point, Cedric wondered if Nick could still remember his real name and status.
He had immersed himself in that identity so much that it’s almost his alter ego. Nick partied all day long, snoozed whenever he was tired, much to the exasperation of his entourage, gambled his wealth away, flirted and bedded women left and right, etc.
Cedric knew the guy could practically live like this for the next thousand years without making a dent in his coffers, but still…it’s a bit jarring to see such a strict man let loose like this.
But who was he to judge?
Again, so long as Nick didn’t plan on destroying his territory, it’s alright to let him do whatever he wants.
Besides, if his friends were looking for him, they would’ve never thought that he’d be here letting loose like this.
**
Nick’s vacation lasted for almost two years.
In that amount of time, he had thoroughly combed every single corner of the Rising Sun Sector Domain and had sampled all the places where he could play and have fun.
He lived large and unburned for this much time, sometimes almost forgetting his real identity entirely.
Frankly, he didn’t want it to end.
Alas, it has to.
The experience, while fun and novel, had come to an end. He could go for a second round, but it’s meaningless. Not because it has gotten old, no, far from it.
It’s because Nick was finally satisfied.
He hasn’t partied like this for…gee, he couldn’t even remember. The short breaks and vacations he had in the past wouldn’t even come close to being as fun as this.
And Nick was completely satisfied with everything. He had no complaints. He will leave this place with his heart full and settled. Going for another round might be fun, but it could also turn sour or, worse, get old. Nick doesn’t want to ruin the experience by indulging, so he’d leave now before that happens.
He filed the exit forms, duplicated the memories and experiences he had here and copied them to the poor VIP whose identity he borrowed for a while, released him, and left the ship without alarming anyone.
With his heart and soul full, Nick smiled.
He’s ready.
