Chapter 879: Black Pegasus’ current state
—
Nick didn’t doubt Urek’s reports.
The proof he brought back was checked and definitely proven to be true. Nick and the rest made sure of that.
However, he also couldn’t deny what he’s seeing right now. Even though he’s a newly ascended Primal Origin Lifeform, there’s no way anything or anybody could fool his senses.
Since the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm was pretty close to their home, Nick didn’t even need to strain the range of his senses to reach it. And he could see it as clear as day.
The Black Pegasus Chaos Realm had been cleansed from the terrible influence of demons and infernal energy. It has now entered a period of recovery.
And to prove this to Urek and the rest of his friends, Nick took them there in an instant.
“Holy crap, you weren’t lying! There’s really nothing here!” Urek exclaimed.
Urek could still remember his solo expedition here as if it only happened yesterday. He remembered how horrible this place had become thanks to the corruption of Infernal Energy. Even he had to be wary of his movements in case he too became infected.
But that’s obviously not the case anymore.
“There are signs of the aftermath still,” Gibson muttered as his drones continued scanning the nearby atmosphere and planets. “But there’s definitely no traces of demons, not even a lick of Infernal Energy at all.”
“And this world is already recovering from what happened,” Nick added. “It’s still not fit for habitation. It’d take a couple hundred years, if not millennia, for this whole realm to recover to a decent state fit for living beings.”
“That’s actually quite short, if you think about it,” Berk pointed out. “I mean, we’re talking about a badly abused and nearly drained Chaos Realm. I’m surprised that it’s still intact, actually.”
“There’s something here, Nick.” Patricia solemnly looked around. “There’s something here that’s helping the recovery of this place. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be this fast. However, for the life of me, I can’t find where it is. I just know that it’s somewhere around here.”
Nick was inclined to believe her because he too assumed the same. And as a newly ascended peak lifeform, Nick himself could also feel its presence. But it’s hidden really well.
Unfortunately for whatever or whoever that is, Nick’s pride as a newly ascended peak lifeform took this as a challenge. He refused to believe that there are things that could be hidden from his perception.
Of course, the existence of whatever that was that he sensed far outside the five known chaos realms was an exception. He understood that that’s far out of his reach. But this one that is this close to him? No, he refused to believe that it could be hidden from him.
So, he closed his eyes and began sensing around. His first few attempts were awful and clumsy, but he quickly learned how to refine his ways.
“Oh. Oh, that is…really, really clever!” Nick exclaimed in surprise at what he found.
“What? What is it?” Gibson asked. He too was curious because his machines and drones were unable to locate whatever that was.
“It’s a formation,” Nick stated, “a man-made one that ended up being a natural formation.”
“Whoever made it rearranged heavenly bodies in a way that follows the Life Laws. They kick-started it using some means that have long faded and cannot be divined anymore, but that’s more than enough.”
“After a couple of years, the formation became self-sustained, able to run on its own without anybody needing to supervise it. It’s even designed to adjust and improve over time.”
“Based on what I can see, this formation adjusted itself three times already and has evolved twice to fit the need of this chaos realm.”
“Oh, have I mentioned that this formation was installed to cover the entire chaos realm, including the dimensional gap?”
“No way! A self-sustained, adjusting, and evolving grand formation? In this day and age!? Who could do such a thing!?” Urek was in disbelief.
And so were the rest.
Frankly, even Nick was surprised, and his reaction was truly understandable.
Formation experts nowadays are very rare, mostly because the topic itself was very difficult with how profound it was. In addition, it is damn expensive to learn this stuff, which is a factor that kept more people from learning the art.
Many have gone mad and/or broke over this stuff. Furthermore, one can’t expect success in this stuff immediately. It usually takes thousands of years’ worth of study, research, and practice for them to show decent results. So, unless one had a sizeable amount of wealth, resources, experience, and lifespan, people wouldn’t even bother learning this thing.
At most, they’d study it just enough to recognize when they’re inside one and how to break them. Any further study would come when they are older and far more experienced.
Therefore, it is very surprising to find something like this in here. Because even in Heavenly Star, where humans are a sovereign race, the profound art of runes and formations is exceedingly rare and difficult to learn.
“If anybody could deploy a formation of this scale, then getting rid of demons and infernal energy shouldn’t be difficult for them, either. I guess we found our culprit,” Berk stated.
“Indeed. It would’ve been better if we knew who it was, though,” Urek replied.
“Why? So we can ascertain if they could be an ally or a foe?” Gibson raised a brow.
Urek shrugged and said, “Well, it wouldn’t hurt to know, right?”
“True,” Gibson relented after thinking about it.
“Well, with this formation, how long do you reckon it’d take for this place to be revitalized and ready for habitation?” Patricia asked Nick.
“500 years at minimum,” Nick answered after a brief calculation. “But if we’re being safe, I’d say a thousand years for the whole package.”
“The whole package of what?”
“Including the natural evolution of life,” Nick stated, “the formation won’t just ’revive’ this chaos realm. It will also evolve to its nature to breed and breathe new life into this place, meaning that it’s very possible for new biomes and lifeforms to appear here.”
“Natural resources, unique biomes, natural habitats, naturally formed secret realms and pocket dimensions, new races of creatures, some of which might be unique to this world, etc.”
“It’ll take at least 1000 years to produce all of that. And if we allow them to thrive, then another 1000 years. Maybe shorter, actually. So long as we don’t touch the natural formation and allow it to evolve on its own, then we can pretty much leave this place to run on its own.”
“So, around 2000 years before we can colonize this place? That’s not bad,” Urek pointed out.
“No, it’s not just ’not bad’! We’re talking about an entire chaos realm here! The natural recovery of this place would normally take a million years, at minimum! More, considering how badly the demons ravaged this chaos realm!”
“It’d take millions of more years for life to return here, and even more before it becomes ready for colonization!”
“With our combined efforts, sure, we might be able to slash a good chunk of that time. But we definitely can’t do it in the same manner as whoever made this natural formation! That’s practically impossible!” Patricia ranted at them.
And none of them were able to refute her since, in this topic, at least, she’s far more knowledgeable than they are.
“Awesome!” Berk exclaimed to diffuse the situation. “Whoever made this was certainly way better than any of us, then! At least in terms of runes and formations.”
“That’s what I said,” Nick muttered softly.
Of course, he too was shocked. If Patricia’s words were true, and it’s very likely that they are, then whoever created this formation was truly an expert, one that is way better than him.
He could admit this without an ounce of shame, despite being a Primal Origin Lifeform, simply because this was not his specialty. He’s more fond of breaking and destroying things, you see.
“Just so we’re clear, we’re not touching that formation, right?” Gibson asked.
“Right!”
It was a unanimous and instant decision of all five of them.
“Even if we wanted to, we can’t anyway,” Nick pointed out. “Even I could barely sense the formation itself. And I don’t really understand how it’s made. I also couldn’t see where the core parts of it are. I’m pretty sure they’re hidden and very well protected.”
“That’s not surprising given how complicated this formation was and its purpose,” Patricia agreed. “It needs to be left alone. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s scheduled to dissipate on its own once its mission is over.”
“It seems that the creator really didn’t want their identity to be found out,” Berk mused. “But hey, this works for us! Do you reckon they’d allow us to colonize this place, or should we expect to meet resistance?”
“That…we’d have to find out ourselves, I think.” Nick hummed.
“Let’s explore a little bit, yeah? Maybe we can find clues.”
“And if we can’t?” Urek asked.
“We’ll regroup and deliberate once we’ve thoroughly scoured this place.”
