Endless Leveling Done Right! - Chapter 529: Unwavering Resolve [Part 2]

Chapter 529: Unwavering Resolve [Part 2]
“Not a lot of Demons are left now,” Fran said as she scouted their surroundings with her ability. “They originally had thousands, but they’re now down to roughly three hundred. The Demon King must’ve sacrificed them to break the barrier.”
The Fairy somewhat understood the Demon Lord’s way of thinking.
Why must he waste his time trying to look for a fairy and a teenage boy when he could just completely destroy either the barrier or the forest?
While Vanaac did consider tearing the forest apart, he had already lost patience by then and didn’t want to waste more time after spending months looking for Alex and Fran.
For this reason, he settled with what he believed was the most logical choice—destroy the barrier.
As the one who cast it, he fully understood how it worked. With enough time and resources, he confidently believed that he could break it.
And he was not wrong. If not for the Elves’ intervention, he would’ve already succeeded and would’ve been back to the Demon Realm, raising another army to invade the human kingdoms.
Naturally, the humans had a rough idea of what he would’ve done once he was out, so they asked the Elves for help.
As long as he kept the Demon Lord trapped within his own barrier, he wouldn’t have the chance to return.
Vanaac had enough resources for a second attempt to break the barrier, but he could already guess the outcome after doing it once.
That left him with one option—kill Alex and Fran. Little did he know that the pair held the same intention toward him while he was still weak.
“What now, Alex?” Fran asked. “There might only be three hundred of them, but from what I can tell, the Demon Lord kept his elite subordinates. They are at least on the level of Rank A, and Rank S Adventurers.”
Alex pondered a bit, weighing the pros and cons of what they planned to do. After carefully thinking about it, he deemed that killing the Demon Lord’s subordinates using hit and run tactics would also be beneficial for them.
“Fran, let’s crush them with a pincer attack,” Alex replied. “You will attack them from a distance, and once you get their attention, I will hit them from behind. The moment the Demon Lord appears, we retreat and try again later.”
“Great plan!” Fran nodded. “Let’s do it!”
“Good. Wait for my signal.”
“Okay!”
Alex carefully made his way to the other side of the Demon Army’s temporary base and positioned himself properly.
He and Fran had already done this many times, so they already knew what to do if ever they were about to be overwhelmed by their enemies.
“I am in position, Fran,” Alex said to the Gaia Ring in his hand, allowing Fran to hear his voice.
“Understood,” Fran replied before taking a deep breath.
She then started to chant creating dozens of magic circles in the sky.
“O wandering stars that sleep beyond the firmament,
Hear my call and answer my will.”
“Tear through the veil of the skies,
Burn away false dominion,
And return all things to ash.”
“Meteor Fall!”
Dozens of blazing boulders rained down from the sky.
Fran had used the strongest spell that she had learned after wielding Gaia’s Ring, which she believed was the perfect spell for mass destruction.
It was also a great spell to cause confusion and chaos, giving Alex the perfect opportunity to strike while everyone was panicking.
Powerful explosions boomed across the forest, making the land tremble.
The Fairy had cast this spell not only to distract the demons but to also annihilate as many of them as possible with a single spell.
Dozens of Demons died, and more were injured from the blasts.
Alex then swooped in and went for the kill. With superhuman speed aiding him, he managed to kill a dozen demons in less than a minute.
He especially targeted the strong-looking ones and left the injured behind.
Of course, not all of his killing blows managed to claim an enemy’s life.
The stronger Demons had sensed his presence and engaged him in combat. However, Alex had no intention of trading blows with them.
As soon as the element of surprise disappeared, he didn’t hesitate to run away.
Fran did the same and retreated to safety after casting Meteor Fall.
They could always use hit and run tactics against their enemies, which was the reason why the Demon Lord’s army failed to capture them for the past few months.
The two didn’t retreat too far from the Demon’s Camp since they still planned to kill the Demon Lord today.
Even if the recent incident caught them by surprise, and they would probably be more watchful of their surroundings, that wouldn’t stop Alex, and Fran from whittling their headcount.
“Let’s place traps around the camp,” Alex proposed. “That way, when they pursue us, we can lead them to our traps and kill them.”
“Sounds like a plan.” Fran nodded.
This time, Alex didn’t leave her side and helped create traps that were perfect for ambushing pursuers.
He planted ropes on blind spots that would trigger the trap when someone steps or trips on them. Meanwhile, Fran used magic circles that would activate when stepped on. She made sure that the traps wouldn’t react to Alex even if he stepped on them by adding his magical signature to the formation.
As they worked on the traps, Fran’s wisps of light scouted and kept watch on the Demon Camp, ensuring to monitor their movements.
Inside the Demon Camp, Vanaac was fuming in both anger and humiliation.
Angry that the Elves had gotten in the way of his attempt to break the barrier that covered the forest.
Humiliated because not only did he fail, but the two pesky insects also used this opportunity to launch a surprise attack on them.
Truth be told, Vanaac was truly exhausted at the moment.
He had given everything he had to break the barrier, and it would take him at least a day or two to fully recover.
This was his most vulnerable moment, so he ordered his subordinates to make sure to kill the teenage boy and the fairy the moment they saw them.
Three hours later, Fran and Alex struck again, and this time, the Demons chased them, hoping to end their lives once and for all.
