Eternal Cultivation of Alchemy - Chapter 2806: The Main General

Chapter 2806: The Main General
The attackers came in waves, attacking only once before moving back in waves to let the other wave come forward and attack.
Alex was pushed back. The waves were too strong. Not only was the tactic strong, but the soldiers were all physically strong as well. He had decided to use the Azure Dragon Battle Array to fight these people since he wanted to give the old man a chance.
However, it appeared that he was the one who needed that chance.
Alex quickly shifted his array, changing to the Hell Emperor’s Divine Battle Array. Then, the battle became much fairer.
Still, he wasn’t winning. He focused, having his fighters push back against the waves, trying to disrupt them. So long as he broke their rhythm, he could disrupt them completely.
He was so close to doing that when suddenly a group of soldiers flanked him from the right. He hadn’t even seen them coming.
“What’s going on with the scouts? Where are they?” he demanded of the soldiers, but no reply came. It became clear very quickly that his scouts were dead.
How had the old man done that?
Alex tried to hold on, to continue the battle even longer so that he could find a way to win, but the old man made no mistake. He did everything so right that he even countered Alex’s counter before he could fully perform it.
It was like he could read his every move.
In the end, he lost.
Once Alex was brought out of the game, he took off his headband and stared blankly at the old man. “How… how are you so good at this?” he asked. It was like fighting the War God all over again.
The old man laughed. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had fun like this,” he said. “Should we go again? I want to fight at another place now. I’ve heard about places with everflowing lava. Let’s fight there next.”
“Senior… how are you so good at this?” Alex asked. “It feels like you have a lot of talent in controlling groups of soldiers.”
“Of course,” the old man said. “I was the main General in the Hell Emperor’s army. I was the one that led our soldiers to fight.”
“You were the main General?” Alex asked in surprise.
The old man nodded.
“What was the word? Battle Master. That’s who I was for the Hell Emperor,” the old man said.
Alex stared with a shocked expression. “I never thought you would have such a past,” he said. “Did the Hell Emperor not control his own army?”
“He was too busy fighting on his own. He would rather show off his power on his own, rather than lead his soldiers,” the old man said.
“I see,” Alex said as he fell into thought. Given that the Hell Emperor was the War God before the current one, Alex knew he was great at leading soldiers. He couldn’t imagine that he actually chose not to do that here.
“I’m surprised he didn’t command his own army,” Alex said.
“Why would he?” the old man asked.
“Of course. He had no need to be there,” Alex quickly said. “But the Hell Emperor is known for being one of the greatest Generals during the time of war. He also created one of the greatest Battle Arrays in the outside world. With such feats, I would’ve expected him to lead the army here as well.”
“HAH!” the old man suddenly shouted. “Him? A General? That man could not lead 10 men across a bridge even if you tied them with ropes to him. His talent was good, but he had no knowledge. I taught him all of that.”
“I taught him to lead. I taught him about battle formations for him to use,” the old man said. “Did that damn guy not only not return to rescue us, but also start boasting that he came up with everything himself?”
The old man’s sudden rant took Alex aback. The Hell Emperor… was a fraud?
“You taught the Hell Emperor?” Alex asked.
“I’ve taught millions,” the old man shouted in rage. “I’ve taught them how to fight since the beasts gained their Sunhearts. I’ve taught them how to use battle formations to defeat stronger foes. Dai Fenghan was one of the many, forgettable to my eyes. And yet he dares claim he did all of that?”
The old man heaved in anger, taking in deep breaths.
Alex paused for a long time, both shocked and surprised. It was hard to call the Hell Emperor a fraud when he didn’t know much about the man, but the fact that he had been taught by the old man suddenly made Alex think more of the old man.
Not to mention, something he had said in his rage had caught Alex’s attention.
“Senior, what did you say about the Sunhearts? You’ve been teaching people how to fight since they gained Sunhearts?” Alex asked.
The old man took a moment to realize what he had said in anger. He turned toward Alex, his thoughts in disarray. “Uhh… forget about that.”
“I… don’t think I can,” Alex said. “You can’t just drop a nugget of new information and not continue. I would like to hear more. Where did the beasts with Sunhearts come from, because they don’t exist outside.”
The old man made an annoyed look.
“Fine,” the old man said. “I’ll tell you.”
Alex waited excitedly.
“But, only if you beat me in a battle.”
Alex’s shoulders slumped. “Are you really going to make me wait for that?” he asked. “Can’t you just tell me? I promise I’ll fight you until the morning.”
“No, if you want the answer, you have to beat me,” the old man said. “As for continuing to fight, we will. The more you win, the more I will tell you about my past. How’s that?”
Alex narrowed his eyes. “I hope you won’t go back on your words.”
The old man grinned and put on his headband. “It won’t matter. You’re not going to win anyway.”
