- Chapter 2973 1625: Mutation and Doubt

Without any warning at all, Leo Ray only felt the light around him dim in an instant, and for a moment he found it a bit hard to adapt.
Puzzled, Leo Ray instinctively looked out the nearby window, and only then did he notice in surprise that the sky, which had still been blazing with sunlight just now, was already studded with stars, with two full moons hanging high in the heavens.
“It got dark this fast? We’ve only been in the Barrier Area for one or two hours; outside it should still be morning.”
“Besides, even if night fell, it shouldn’t be this sudden. There wasn’t even a dusk—more like someone suddenly pulled a black curtain over the sky.”
“Could it be that the sky of this Barrier Area isn’t a reflection of the outside world at all, but follows its own set of rules?”
Just as doubt churned in Leo Ray’s heart, the surrounding Light Elves had already skillfully taken out Light Crystal Stones for illumination and lit the Magic Lamps, so that the room quickly became bright again.
“Hehe, happy times are always short; I didn’t expect it to be dinnertime so soon.”
The Elf Village Chief stroked his beard with a kindly smile and said, “Fortunately, the food from the welcome Banquet is still warm, just right to serve as dinner. Please, Your Majesty of the Humans and esteemed guests, help yourselves as you wish.”
“Thank you for your kindness, Village Chief, but we’re not hungry yet.”
Leo Ray had barely begun to refuse when he suddenly heard a chewing sound right beside him.
Following the sound, he saw Moli holding a plate of vegetable patties, devouring them with a look of utter enjoyment, eating with obvious delight.
Not only that, the other powerhouses on their side, who had worn faintly guarded and puzzled expressions just moments ago, were now all picking up plates and eating heartily without the slightest restraint.
Among them, even Fei’er was gulping down juice in big swigs, and soon refilled her cup for another.
“After gaining the support of the vessel, Fei’er is indeed no different from a normal powerhouse, but in such a jarring and still unclear situation, with her mind and caution, how could she act like this?”
Leo Ray’s brows furrowed tightly, a heavy pressure rising in his chest.
“Lord, what’s wrong with them?”
Sheila’s bewildered voice sounded as she moved a little closer to Leo Ray.
Not only Sheila; Xiao Jie and Xiao Jing, who had likewise stayed by Leo Ray’s side, also pressed close, their faces still full of vigilance.
“It must be related to this abrupt nightfall. They seem to have fallen under some kind of enchantment.”
Leo Ray nodded slightly and said so to the three Stone Spirits via Mind Talk.
It seemed that, at the moment, only he and the Stone Spirits remained normal. But if the others had been bewitched by something, why were he and the Stone Spirits unaffected?
Combined with the series of doubts from before, it had to be said that the situation was growing more and more unfathomable.
As a chill rose in his heart, Leo Ray immediately tried to communicate with his subordinates, who were busy feasting. However, whether through speech or Mind Talk, all of them turned a deaf ear, their eyes fixed solely on the food before them, completely unresponsive.
“Your Majesty of the Humans, it seems everyone has already gotten used to this place.”
Anna brought over another plate of vegetable patties, her face full of hopeful smiles. “Please, Your Majesty of the Humans, do try some as well.”
After Anna spoke, the other Light Elves all wore the same smiling expressions; even the Elf Village Chief was no exception, his face brimming with expectant anticipation.
For a moment, the smiles of all the Light Elves grew increasingly eerie and inscrutable, giving off an uncanny sense of uniformity, as if they too were being controlled by some existence.
“Could that unknown existence sealed within the Forbidden Land be secretly bewitching everyone? Before we arrived, it already took control of the entire Elf Village of the Light Elves, and now it’s starting to target us.”
“If that’s the case, it would indeed explain the strange behavior of these Light Elves and the current situation. But if so, why are the Stone Spirits and I completely unaffected?”
Staring at the smiling Anna before him, Leo Ray’s brows knit tighter.
Or perhaps these Light Elves were not being controlled at all; maybe they were using some method to bewitch his subordinates—it couldn’t be ruled out.
“I have to figure everything out as soon as possible; I don’t have much time.”
With that thought, Leo Ray decisively pushed aside the plate Anna had offered and frowned. “Did you really think you could just do whatever you wanted like this?”
As his words fell, Xiao Jie’s expression hardened, and an Absolute Imprisonment Barrier instantly surged up within the room.
Though Leo Ray couldn’t be certain whether these Light Elves were bewitched or the masterminds themselves, he no longer had the luxury of worrying about that; he could only subdue them first.
“Your Majesty of the Humans, wh-what are you doing?”
Crisp sounds of shattering plates and clattering cutlery rang out. Under the crushing weight of the Confinement barrier, all the Light Elves present collapsed to the floor, their faces full of utter shock.
As for the powerhouses on Leo Ray’s side, their attention still remained on the food in front of them, stiff and wooden like puppets.
Leo Ray, however, did not respond. Bringing the three Stone Spirits with him, he shot out of the room, racing straight toward the Forbidden Land at the center of the village.
That place was definitely the root of everything. Although he currently had only the Stone Spirits at his side, after the comprehensive series of upgrades over the past few days, his foundation was far beyond what it had been. Even if he encountered a genuine Demigod, he would still have the strength to fight.
After leaving the house, Leo Ray sped through the pitch-black village. In almost the blink of an eye, he reached the central area of the village—precisely where the Forbidden Land lay.
However, once Leo Ray came to a halt, a trace of confusion and shock immediately surfaced on his face.
All he saw was emptiness. That enormous pure-white Temple building had already vanished without a trace, as if it had never existed at all.
“Lord, how could this be?”
Sheila’s eyes widened, and she couldn’t help but look at Xiao Jing and Xiao Jie, all three exchanging glances.
Everything that had happened was far beyond any of their expectations.
“Your Majesty of the Humans, wouldn’t it be nice to just stay here quietly and keep everyone company?”
A crisp voice sounded from behind Leo Ray. Turning toward the sound, he saw that Anna and the Elf Villagers of the Light Elves had appeared behind him at some unknown point.
Anna stepped forward urgently, her expression earnest as she continued, “The outside world is far too dangerous. Your Majesty of the Humans and everyone else should just stay here. There is no conflict here, no war—such a stable and peaceful life, isn’t it what so many people dream of?”
“It is indeed what many people dream of, and it’s something I long for as well. But right now I neither have the right nor the leeway to choose that.”
Leo Ray’s face was calm as still water, his voice firm as iron.
“Then what if we insist on keeping you here?”
A shadowy gloom surfaced on the old face of the Elf Village Chief, his tone gradually sinking.
